Only The Strong Survive

The desert takes no prisoners, only the strong survive. This is toward the end of spring, can you tell? A haze of heat forms over this dry and desolate place. But is all as it seems?

If ones cares enough to look instead of roaring by in a cloud of dust created by man made machines, there are treasures to behold. The first cactus blooms dot the ground in fuschia fire and tiny white asters nearly blend with the dry earth.

In a nice lull between man made dust clouds  a Red Tailed Hawk blessed me with a visit. So close that I could see the colored feather pattern in his breast and belly, a missing feather in his tail. I spoke to him and fixed me with one amber eye as he circled around me. We’re on a cross country “journey” today my husband and I, so we head east to our next destination.

We follow the “powerline road” as it marches across this dry and rocky place. In the distance you can see Mount Garfield and the Grand Mesa. Do you see the beauty here or is it ugly and alien? Sagebrush and Mormon Tea are beginning  to make their appearance. There is no water, only blistering sun……… only the strong survive.

At the top of a one powerline giant a mother crow sits sentinel. She surveys the baked land and the heat shimmery sky with her beady eye. Four black heads sprout from the nest at the junction. As we stop underneath the tower sh takes to the air in hopes of drawing us away from her young and we are treated to a quartet of grumpy voices asking mom where she is going. There is no shade….. only blistering sun…. only the strong survive.

We reach our next destination, a trip which has taken us about 2 miles cross desert to find a forest of yucca. the long wands, covered with white flowers wave in the breeze. In less than a month only dagger sharp leaves will be left. But for now we enjoy the view.

It’s a lesson that nothing lasts forever and that beauty, even when fleeting, should be savored and enjoyed. It’s image seared into your soul the way the sun sears the  dry breast of the earth. Only the strong survive.

I think that it’s important to bookmark things of beauty in your mind. This is why I can look at my desert even in its harshest conditions and still see the  beauty that lives there. A delicate overlay that reminds me “Yes! I’m still here. I am strong and will survive!

Since the Ascended Masters were human at one time they have a better understanding of our desires, needs and feelings. They are encouraging us to reach out to them with any earthly matters or day to day concerns. Remember to ask out of love, not out of anger, hate or revenge. These harsh emotions can generate a negative landslide and no one wants to be caught in that. Asking for help to temper those emotions will be helpful and allow you to add some love into the equation.

61:  Our thoughts are powerful things. They can  bring us anything from great joy, peace or inspiration to anxiety and despair, along with everything in between. Material issues can often be the culprit. Sometimes it feels impossible to be super-positive all the time as some New Age “gurus” say you should be. Negative thoughts happen (it’s part of our human nature) and when they do what’s most important is how you handle them. (Balance) If you hold on to them they breed more negativity and that’s not good for our mental wellbeing. The key is in acknowledging these thoughts and looking for the underlying cause of them (be honest with yourself!). There is always a positive solution and the universe is here to help. By doing our best to turn  negative’s over to our spiritual helpers we can gain valuable insight and new ideas. Essentially it frees up our “thought space”!  Acknowledge, let go and focus on  creative and positive solutions.




 Archangel Raziel can assist us in the manifestation process. Remember that the angels and masters will only help with what we need. So if you want more than that be willing to go the extra mile. I’m speaking, of course, of poison ivy, poison oak, and poison sumac – three devious plants just itching for the chance to ruin your summer outings.

Patheos-Pagan: The Cauldron – A Perfect Container For My Magic.


All around my house you’ll find cauldrons. I have a large replica of the Gundestrup Cauldron on top of one prominent altar. There’s a collection of mini cauldrons nestled on the wood burning stove. I have cauldrons filled with beans for sorting. Another with drops of Awen (okay, they are gold coloured marbles but they are Awen to me) and two in my office that I work magic with each morning.

The 80/20 rule says that on a list of 10 tasks, only 2 of those tasks will return 80% of the value of the entire list. Look at your ‘to do’ list for today. Which tasks are directly related to what you most want in life? Find the 2 high value items on your list and tackle them first. These tasks are the ones that really move us forward.


Many of us actively avoid the top 2 priorities because they are more challenging than the rest. If they are to lead us to worthy goals, they are undoubtedly asking us to move into new territory in thinking and acting, and this can be scary. But this is also REWARDING!

When we live in present moment awareness we’re living with heightened senses. We’re awake to the many miracles all around us, all the time. We can find joy in peeling an orange: filling our nostrils with the sweet and tangy fragrance, feasting our eyes on the brilliant fiery color, coating our fingers with the sticky and succulent juice. The orange is a gift, and we are blessed. When we are grateful, we are in the moment, and life is good!
