The Tetraktys: Witchy DIY – Sun & Moon Water Jar Tutorial

Hi witches! In this video, I am decorating two jars to collect and store Sun and Moon water. Sun water is water that has been charged with the energy of the sun while moon water contains the energy of the moon. In witchcraft, sun water represents power, masculinity, strenght, protection and charisma, and it is associated with the Horned God. Moon water is associated with the Triple Goddess, and it represents femininity, healing, love, emotions and psychic awareness.

ThoughtCo: Cailleach, the Ruler of Winter

The goddess known as Cailleach in Scotland and parts of Ireland is the embodiment of the dark mother, the harvest goddess, the hag or crone entity. She appears in the late fall, as the earth is dying, and is known as a bringer of storms. She is typically portrayed as a one-eyed old woman with bad teeth and matted hair.

Daily Good: Diane Ackerman on Deep Play

In this moving piece, poet, essayist, and naturalist Diane Ackerman’s reverence for play is brought to life through selections from her book, “Deep Play”. While others have easily dismissed play as trivial or time-consuming, Ackerman asserts, “Opportunities for deep play abound. In its thrall we become ideal versions of ourselves… [Its] many moods and varieties help to define who we are and all we wish to be.” Reflecting on its evolutionary role, psychological, and spiritual dimensions, Ackerman invites us to reacquaint ourselves with the very activity that makes us human. { read more } http://www.dailygood.org/story/2391/diane-ackerman-on-deep-play-maria-popova/

MNN: 21 reasons why forests are important
Don’t miss the forest for the trees. Here are a few reminders why woodlands are wonderful — and worth protecting.

Forests cover nearly a third of all land on Earth, providing vital organic infrastructure for some of the planet’s densest, most diverse collections of life. They support countless species, including our own, yet we often seem oblivious of that.

EarthSky News:  Use Big Dipper to find North Star

The northern sky is a large clock, with Polaris at its center. The hour hand is a line drawn through Dubhe and Merak, the two pointer stars of the Big Dipper. Because the stars make a full circle in 23 hours 56 minutes instead of exactly 24 hours, this star clock is not exactly the same as the one on the wall, but with a little practice you can learn to read it well.

Patheos-Pagan: Thornapple, Gender and Ritual Application

Cultivating the Devil’s Apple aka Thornapple
I spent part of this afternoon harvesting my Thornapple plants. One of them grew to be close to five feet high! The Thornapple I grew this year is a Datura stramonium var. tatula; similar to the common Datura stramonium only it is less shrubby and has lavender purple flowers.

Inner Journey: OPEN TO AWARENESS

“Mindfulness means moment-to-moment, non-judgmental awareness. It is cultivated by refining our capacity to pay attention, intentionally, in the present moment, and then sustaining that attention over time as best we can. In the process, we become more in touch with our life as it is unfolding.”
— Myla & Jon Kabat-Zinn

Why do we want to become more aware?

If we remain unaware, we:
• repeat the past,
• remain stuck in relationships,
• live superficial, literal and one dimensional lives,
• lack experiences of love and beauty, and
• have limited connection to others and the universe.

With awareness, we are fully involved with life. Awareness is sensing deeply and sensitively for what really is. To do this, we need to approach the present as totally new. When we can be open and attentive in each moment, we begin to free ourselves from the conditioning of the past and the suffering that it so often brings.

“If moment by moment you can keep your mind clear then nothing will confuse you.”
— Sheng Yen

Language

“There have been periods in the history of the various cultures, when the language of spirituality was clear, accurate and exhaustive. At the present time it is muddled, inadequate to the fact and dangerously equivocal. Lacking a proper vocabulary, people find it hard, not only to think about the most important issues of life, but even to realize that these issues exist.”

-Aldous Huxley (1894-1963)

This is really interesting to think about. Is our language of spirituality clear, accurate and exhaustive? So many times, when asked about our beliefs, it seems it’s hard to put into words. It’s difficult to define any big concept like that because the meanings of words can vary based upon the experience of each person. But we have to start somewhere. It might be a good exercise to write up some of our own definitions just to see what kind of language we come up with to express ourselves. We might just discover something about ourselves long the way, too. Start with these: love, joy, peace, faith.

Tetrakyts: The Pagan Origins of Christmas – From Paganism to Christianity

hristmas is coming and a lot of Neopagans will be celebrating it as “Yule”, on the 21st of December. The Neopagan Yule is loosely based on the Germanic festival of the same name, and I say loosely because we don’t have much information about what the original Pagan festival was, as most of the information we have on Germanic Paganism comes from Christian sources. Nevertheless, religions always build on what is already there and for this reason, you’ll see that a lot of Christmas elements actually have Pagan roots.

MNN: Conservationists plant a ‘super grove’ of redwood trees cloned from ancient stumps

A new “super grove” of endangered coast redwood trees arose today in California, thanks to a nonprofit group that planted 75 saplings at a park in San Francisco.
Since their species is endangered, any new community of coast redwoods would be welcome news. Yet these 75 saplings are also newsworthy for another reason: They’re all clones, born of DNA that conservationists retrieved from ancient redwood stumps. Now growing together at the Presidio of San Francisco, they carry on a valuable genetic legacy that dates back thousands of years.

EarthSky News: Orion’s Belt and the Celestial Bridge

Tonight – December 16, 2018 – the constellation Orion rises in your eastern sky around 7 to 8 p.m. Orion climbs highest up for the night around midnight local time (the time on your clock no matter where you are on the globe). It then sits low in your western sky around 4 to 5 a.m. Notice the three stars at the mid-section of Orion. We know these stars as Orion’s Belt, but the Aymara people of Bolivia, Peru and Chile call them a Celestial Bridge.

DO YOU LOVE YOURSELF?

“At the heart of personality is the need to feel a sense of being lovable without having to qualify for that acceptance.”
— Dr. Paul Tournier

How do you see yourself as unlovable?

Take a few minutes to write down why you perceive yourself to be unlovable. Look at the list and see if you can identify where those characterizations originated. Can you pinpoint old messages from parents, teachers, and friends that led you to negative conclusions about yourself? Are those messages valid today?

The beliefs we adopt as children usually don’t hold when we view them objectively as adults. Can you let them go? Can you begin to see yourself as a unique expression of life, a genuine gift to the world?

Experience

“We learn geology the morning after the earthquake.”

-Ralph Waldo Emerson (1803-1882)
Aren’t we funny? This is so true! Sometimes it takes something to “shake us up” so that we can learn. And then we do – we learn from our experiences, both positive and negative. All of life is our classroom; every day there are lessons for us. It’s up to us if we want to do our homework and be prepared – and a lot of that is basically keeping up our spiritual practices. Or, we could goof off and take our chances that we won’t get hit with a “pop quiz!” Whatever happens, we will eventually figure it out.

Thought For The Day: April 12, 2018 “Love Yourself”

Happy Thursday,
This is a message that we have seen before, however it’s one that worth repeating. We all go through times when we are filled with self doubt or even a kind of self loathing. Sometimes it’s of our own making and other times it’s due to someone else. But in the end we  usually come around and make peace with ourselves. The point is that it doesn’t matter what others think of us but what we think of ourselves does. When we accept and like ourselves it shows. It makes us confident and helps us to embrace our truth!

A Bountiful Moment:

Born into greatness conditioned into mediocrity ~Unknown

Daily Thought

Every one of us is great. There are no exceptions to this rule. Expectations, criticisms, or judgements of others change who you think you are. Believing that you are not good enough, or that you cannot do things is a sign that past judgements are embedded in your memory. Change then becomes based in a self-deficit instead of the truth. You are already great and you have everything you need to accomplish what you want.

Daily Practice

Work from a position of power today. Embrace the knowledge that you are already as great as you need to be and that your decision to achieve a goal is a choice not a need. Work from a place of choosing the next step in your journey not responding to what others are or have dictated to you.

Have a Great Day and Believe in Yourself!
