Inner Journey: SING YOUR OWN SONG

“Since you are like no other being ever created since the beginning of time, you are incomparable.”
— Brenda Ueland

Great forces are directing you to conform to the patterns of your society. You have DNA that has been handed down from generation to generation, coding repeated behaviour patterns into your being. You have archetypal energies setting the standards for how you behave as a man or a woman, as husband or wife, as father or mother …. You are immersed in consensual reality, whereby the world around you reflects societal understanding of how life has been and is to be.

At the same time, you have an even greater force within you inspiring you to wake up and recognize the reality of who you are. This force, the creative power underlying the entire universe, is urging you to create brand new standards of reality.

The status quo is blind to our creative power. Create a brand new world for yourself, one that meets your deepest needs, and you will help raise the quality of consciousness of the entire world.

“You must be the change you wish to see in the world.”

A Note from the Universe

I have to admit when we thought of adding the dimension of “time” to space, it was not wildly popular.

True, it would make possible evolution, reunions, and cute before-and-after photos. But it would add to the illusion of separation… “horror of horrors!” Spontaneous manifestations would spontaneously cease… “eee-gad!” And the only way anyone could get anything done, would be if they held onto and moved with their vision in thought, word, and deed, even when present circumstances appeared ABSOLUTELY unchanged for their efforts… yeah, “SIGN ME UP!!!!”

The fact that many of us are separated from death is a disconnect from our humanity. She encourages having normal conversations about death, something we don’t usually talk about, bringing death more into our lives in an enlivening way. Inner Journey: STEP INTO SELF-AWARENESS

“Getting in touch with your true self must be your first priority.”
— Tom Hopkins

Here are some different aspects of self-awareness:
•Know yourself – Explore who you are: your defences, your blocks, your talents, your aspirations, etc.
•Accept yourself – We are at war with ourselves when we resist or deny certain aspects of who we are. Acknowledge the truth of who you are right now – the positives and the negatives. Only when we own our present reality can we change.
•Control yourself – Set clear, conscious intentions and discipline yourself to meet them.
•Express yourself – Go to your heart to identify what has meaning and purpose for you. Live your truth. Identify ways you can give back to life and be in service.

We work on each of these aspects all the time. But as our lives go through cycles, we predominantly work on one of them more than the others. Which aspect are you more conscious of lately?

“Our lives improve only when we take chances … and the first and most difficult risk we can take is to be honest with ourselves.”
— Walter Anderson

“Adventure can be an end in itself. Self-discovery is the secret ingredient that fuels daring.”
— Grace Lichtenstein

And so you can just imagine how all of us “here” watch in anticipation to see which ones will have the courage to do whatever little they can each day, with what little they’ve got, from where they are, before their baby steps turn into giant leaps for the legions who will follow them.

Poetry
“Poetry is that art which selects and arranges the symbols of thought in such a manner as to excite the imagination the most powerfully and delightfully.”

-William Cullen Bryant (1794-1878)

Poetry seems to be a lost art sometimes, I don’t think we appreciate it enough. I like that with just a few words a poem can illustrate a concept that seems too difficult to explain. It’s because we feel the poetry in our heart first, and then think about its meaning and how it applies to our own lives. I like to read a poem out loud every night before I go to sleep. It puts me into that state where I am ready to dream.

Self-Awareness
“Best to be yourself, imperial, plain, and true!”

-Elizabeth Barrett Browning

How many times have we heard someone give us encouragement by saying: “Just be yourself”? When we were young and needed to make a speech in class, or we were a little too shy to approach our secret crush for a date, a friend or parent would remind us that we had what it takes, that there was no need to be afraid. And, still, today, we need to be reminded. We get nervous, feel that we’re not “as good as” someone else, or that some silly mistake was made and we weren’t supposed to be chosen to give a speech. Self-awareness is knowing who we are, and knowing that we are not only “as good as” or “good enough” but that we are whole and complete, that there is a light within us that shines

Inner Journey: APPRECIATION

“You can never get to peace and inner security without first acknowledging all of the good things in your life. If you’re forever wanting and longing for more without first appreciating things the way they are, you’ll stay in discord.”
— Doc Childre and Howard Martin

Develop an attitude of gratitude. We discover a sense of wholeness as we appreciate both the small and big things in our lives. And it really helps to remember to appreciate ourselves. Appreciation is more than just acceptance — it’s respect and admiration. Let go of criticism and self-abuse.

“Generally, appreciation means some blend of thankfulness, admiration, approval, and gratitude. In the financial world, something that ‘appreciates’ grows in value. With the power tool of appreciation, you get the benefit of both perspectives: as you learn to be consistently thankful and approving, your life will grow in value.”

Light
“Even if our efforts of attention seem for years to be producing no result, one day a light that is in exact proportion to them will flood the room.”

-Simone Weil

Sometimes our spiritual progress is like a dimmer and brighter control – one of those knobs where we can make the light gradually grow brighter. And sometimes it seems like we’re putting in all of this work and nothing is happening. It can be a little frustrating. But something is happening, we just can’t see it yet. It’s like something going on behind-the-scenes, and when the light finally hits us, it’s so bright we have to wear shades!

Wait until tonight to decompress in private. It’s important to keep an even temper and not let others manipulate you emotionally. Your feelings are being strongly projected, so treat others with tact and avoid anger

Inner Journey: NO JUDGMENT

Everything in life holds both a blessing and a curse. We deny this when we label the events of our lives as either good or bad. The following old Zen story illustrates this lesson most effectively.

A farmer had a horse but one day, the horse ran away and so the farmer and his son had to plow their fields themselves. Their neighbors said, “Oh, what bad luck that your horse ran away!” But the farmer replied, “Bad luck, good luck, who knows?”

The next week, the horse returned to the farm, bringing a herd of wild horses with him. “What wonderful luck!” cried the neighbors, but the farmer responded, “Good luck, bad luck, who knows?”

Then, the farmer’s son was thrown as he tried to ride one of the wild horses, and he broke his leg. “Ah, such bad luck,” sympathized the neighbors. Once again, the farmer responded, “Bad luck, good luck, who knows?”

A short time later, the ruler of the country recruited all young men to join his army for battle. The son, with his broken leg, was left at home. “What good luck that your son was not forced into battle!” celebrated the neighbors. And the farmer remarked, “Good luck, bad luck, who knows?”

“Do not judge, and you will never be mistaken.”

A Note from the Universe

Hey! I’ve been looking over all my old photos, and yes, you guessed it, you look absolutely smashing. But honestly, if you don’t mind me saying so, you’re never as beautiful in a photograph—mine or anyone else’s—as you are in person. Not even close.

The odd quiver of your lip, the sparkle in your eye, and the hidden question mark, sometimes, when you smile. The confidence behind your laughter, the concern behind your tears, and the unpredictability of your wit. The reassurance of your glance, the easiness of your presence, and the “junk in your trunk.” I wouldn’t change one single thing. But you guessed that, too, huh?

Isn’t it strange, though, how some still expect to see all that when looking at a photo of themselves, or just staring, motionless, into a mirror?

If you could just see what I see

Inner Journey: VALUE JUST BEING

“To do great work a man must be very idle as well as very industrious.”
— Samuel Butler

Many of us have been taught to believe that we are valued for what we do, not just for who we are. ‘Doing’ is important, but to keep life in balance, we also need time to just ‘be.’

Henry David Thoreau expressed this so well in Walden Pond:

“There were times when I could not afford to sacrifice the bloom of the present moment to any work, whether of the head or hand.

“Sometimes, on a summer morning, I sat in my sunny doorway from sunrise till noon, rapt in a revery, amidst the pines and hickories and sumacs, in undisturbed solitude and stillness, while the birds sang around or flitted noiseless through the house, until by the sun falling in at my west window, or the noise of some traveller’s wagon on the distant highway, I was reminded of the lapse of time.

“I grew in those seasons like corn in the night, and they were far better than any work of the hands would have been.”

Illusion
“Belief in the absence of illusions is itself an illusion.”

-Barbara Grizzuti Harrison, 1992

What is real? What is illusion? These are two of the biggest questions we’re faced with in this lifetime. Especially today, when we have TV and “reality TV” – who is real and who is putting on a show? But one thing we know is that there are indeed illusions, and it’s just a matter of each one of us figuring out for ourselves what is real, what is important, what is ever-lasting.

“Of all the discoveries which men need to make, the most important, at the present moment, is that of the self-forming power treasured up in themselves.”

The Waters of Heterodoxy

“In The Fourth Phase of Water, Gerald Pollack [an award-winning and highly acclaimed professor) offers an elegant new theory of water chemistry that has profound implications not only for chemistry and biology, but for the metaphoric foundation of our understanding of reality and our treatment of nature.[…] The Fourth Phase of Water contributes to a much larger paradigm shift that is proceeding across all the sciences, and indeed to a transition in the defining mythology of our civilization. In science alone, the implications of his findings, if verified, are profound, especially in areas like cell biology, plant physiology, chemical signaling, and of course medicine. Beyond that, they erode the story that we live in a dead universe of generic substances, that we, the sole intelligence of that universe, are therefore its rightful lords and masters. Pollack is part of the evolution of science toward a more shamanic worldview that understands that all things possess some kind of beingness.” Charles Eisenstein shares more in this essay

f you’re outside on an August or September evening, you can glimpse the zodiacal constellation Sagittarius the Archer. From our northerly latitudes, it never climbs high in the sky. Yet Sagittarius marks the direction in our sky to one of the most wondrous places we can imagine: the center of our own Milky Way galaxy. And the constellation is fairly easy to spot, because its brightest stars form a distinctive shape of a Teapot. Follow the links below to learn how to see Sagittarius, and about the lore and science of this constellation.

Inner Journey: LEVELS OF CONSCIOUSNESS

“The greatest discovery of my generation is that man can alter his life simply by altering his attitude of mind.”
— William James

Here is one perspective on levels of consciousness and some descriptive words to help us identify the differences:
• Not conscious – instinctual, follower
• Subconscious – habitual, robotic, reactive
• Conscious – aware, intelligent, conceptual, reflective
• Superconscious – intuitive, guiding, truthful, loving, universal

Reflect on how you typically move through your day. As we use our minds more consciously, we open up to the superconsciousness.

“Utilizing your conscious mind to direct the subconscious mind to enter into communication and harmony with the universal mind is the secret of personal power.”
— Delfin Knowledge System

Cause and Effect
“What is found in the effect was already in the cause.”

-Henri Bergson (1859-1941)
We’ve heard it before – we reap what we sow. What we sow (cause) is what we reap (effect). Our energy generates something that comes back to us. Our efforts, or actions, cause things to happen, so we need to be mindful of what we say and do. And really, the effect becomes another cause, which produces another effect! It’s easy to use the analogy of gardening: we plant a tomato seed, which grows tomatoes, which produce tomato seeds. What is found in the tomato was already in the seed, and vice versa. The seed holds the potential for the tomato. We can apply the same knowledge to our lives, and create for ourselves the love and joy that we want to experience just by sowing the seeds for that

Daily Good: Finding Balance in an Unstable World

Only when our feet learn once again how to walk in a sacred manner, and our hearts hear the real music of creation, can we bring the world back into balance.

– Llewellyn Vaughan-Lee –

Finding Balance in an Unstable World

“The present pandemic, which in a few short months has wreaked havoc across our world, is most likely caused by an imbalance in the natural world, as loss of habitat and biodiversity is not only driving animals to extinction but directly causing animal viruses to spread to humans. In response our leaders are using the images of conflict: We are at war with Covid 19, we keep hearing; it is an invisible enemy we need to vanquish. But although this virus is disrupting our lives, causing sickness, death, and economic breakdown, it is itself a completely natural phenomenon, a living thing reproducing itself in the way nature intended. Are these images of conflict and conquest appropriate or even helpful? Do they help us to understand and to respond, to bring our world back into balance?” Sufi master Llewellyn Vaughan-Lee shares more on finding balance in an unstable world. { read more }

GO FOR WHAT YOU LOVE

“Follow your bliss.”
— Joseph Campbell

It’s hard for some of us to believe that the world is served when we seek our own happiness. We’ve been taught that this is selfish.

If we stop to reflect on how we are in the world when we are happy, we can see how this serves. We have more vitality. We’re more loving and generous to others when our own needs are met.

What activities bring you greatest joy? Your unique gift to the world will be found in those pastimes you love the most.

How can you live your joy each day?

“Spiritual growth is not made in reaction against, for all striving against imposed restrictions is imaginary. Spiritual growth is accomplished by inclination toward. We grow like the sunflower, following the light.”

Myth
“Mythology is much better stuff than history. It has form; logic; a message.”

-Penelope Lively, 1987

I think there is some kind of an innate fascination with myth, and that’s why it has been so prevalent throughout time. The best myths are well-crafted stores that we can relate to, and learn from. We remember these stories, repeat them, and pass them down through the generations. They have become an important part of our spiritual education.

It’s possible that you’re putting yourself under more stress and pressure than anyone or anything else going on around you. It’s not necessary to beat yourself up emotionally like this. Things are fine and you can make things even better if you curtail the urge to obsessively dwell on only what and who is letting you down. Be your own best friend and give yourself credit for what you’re doing right.

Inner Journey:

LISTEN TO YOUR HEART

“To know how to choose a path with heart is to learn how to follow intuitive feeling. Logic can tell you superficially where a path might lead to, but it cannot judge whether your heart will be in it.”
— Jean Shinoda Bolen

“When you have compassion and surrender to your own heart, you are surrendering to the hidden power in your heart, God. You are surrendering to love, because God is Love, the cohesive force of the universe that connects us all. Surrender is not just a religious concept; it’s a power tool for listening to the voice of your spirit and following its directions. When you surrender your head to your heart, you allow your heart to give you a wider, higher intelligence perspective. Remember the phrase, ‘The real teacher is within you.’ Very simply, that teacher is to be found in the common sense of your own heart.”
— Sara Paddison

“Surrender is faith that the power of love can accomplish anything… even when you can not foresee the outcome.”
— Deepak Chopra

A Note from the Universe

The following is NOT wishful thinking, it’s the simple truth:

Once you form a desire for something to have or experience in your mind, it becomes a reality in the world of thoughts. Then, because THOUGHTS BECOME THINGS… that reality immediately goes to work looking for expression somewhere in your vicinity. To help this expression, understand that your job has already been done and that it’s time to let the Universe take over.

This doesn’t mean do nothing, but it does mean that you can stop worrying, stop calculating, and stop second-guessing, so that you can begin listening to the Universe through your own hunches and intuition.

You’re in good hands,

The Universe
