Inner Journey: NO JUDGMENT

Everything in life holds both a blessing and a curse. We deny this when we label the events of our lives as either good or bad. The following old Zen story illustrates this lesson most effectively.

A farmer had a horse but one day, the horse ran away and so the farmer and his son had to plow their fields themselves. Their neighbors said, “Oh, what bad luck that your horse ran away!” But the farmer replied, “Bad luck, good luck, who knows?”

The next week, the horse returned to the farm, bringing a herd of wild horses with him. “What wonderful luck!” cried the neighbors, but the farmer responded, “Good luck, bad luck, who knows?”

Then, the farmer’s son was thrown as he tried to ride one of the wild horses, and he broke his leg. “Ah, such bad luck,” sympathized the neighbors. Once again, the farmer responded, “Bad luck, good luck, who knows?”

A short time later, the ruler of the country recruited all young men to join his army for battle. The son, with his broken leg, was left at home. “What good luck that your son was not forced into battle!” celebrated the neighbors. And the farmer remarked, “Good luck, bad luck, who knows?”

“Do not judge, and you will never be mistaken.”

A Note from the Universe

Hey! I’ve been looking over all my old photos, and yes, you guessed it, you look absolutely smashing. But honestly, if you don’t mind me saying so, you’re never as beautiful in a photograph—mine or anyone else’s—as you are in person. Not even close.

The odd quiver of your lip, the sparkle in your eye, and the hidden question mark, sometimes, when you smile. The confidence behind your laughter, the concern behind your tears, and the unpredictability of your wit. The reassurance of your glance, the easiness of your presence, and the “junk in your trunk.” I wouldn’t change one single thing. But you guessed that, too, huh?

Isn’t it strange, though, how some still expect to see all that when looking at a photo of themselves, or just staring, motionless, into a mirror?

If you could just see what I see

Happy Tuesday,

We can learn a lot from nature and our quote for today is a reminder from our feathered friends. Birds are simple creatures and they go about their business with energetic purpose. They are not afraid to be seen or heard. The lesson here is that we all have a song, a voice, and by sharing this with confidence it helps us to find our joy. This helps us on both the spiritual and emotional levels and opens our hearts to receive. Be like a bird today and use your voice. Be heard and sing your song!

Inner Journey:

BRING SOUL INTO THE WORLD

“We live in a culture that is greatly biased against the imagination, because our culture is very materialistic, objective and literal. Our culture lacks soul, and doesn’t know it, although it experiences the consequences. When you don’t know what’s missing, then of course you don’t know what to bring in, even though you feel something is missing.

“We live in a world that needs more soul, more meaning. We, as conscious beings, have, as our primary responsibility, at this time in human history, the task of bringing soul into the world, or releasing soul into the world. We do this, first of all, in ourselves and in our own personal world; then we do it in our groups – including family; then we do it in our society through our work, relationships and presence there.”

Thought For The Day: Jan. 9, 2020 “Be A Tree”

Happy Thursday,

We can learn a lot from nature, and trees are a great example. Trees are adaptable and flexible. Their roots hold the tree strong during times of stress or hardship. During a storm, a tree may lose a branch, one that may have been weakened and is no longer needed and they shed leaves, discarding what they have outgrown and no longer beneficial. The tree accepts these changes as part of life and continues to grow.  See yourself as a tree. Your roots holding you steady, learn to weather storms with flexibility and learn to shed that which no longer serves you. Embrace growth and thrive. Reach for the sky, the stars and for the mightiest you!

Ancient Greeks used hawthorn berries for heart disease. The Greeks and Romans looked to hawthorn as a source of happiness and hope for the future. The berries were used by the Chinese for digestion and circulatory problems. Christian legend says that the crown of thorns that was placed upon the head of Christ was made from hawthorn. The crushed fruit or leaves were used as a poultice for their drawing powers to remove thorns and splinters for centuries in England. In fact, just thinking about the possibility of change gives some people the chills. No matter what, change makes us feel miserable and if we could high-tail from it, we would and frequently do. Thought For The day: February 23, 2018 “Are We Superior?”

Happy Friday ,

So I admit to being a tree-hugger. Mother Earth is our home and as such must be cared for and taken care of. There is an important lesson in today quote. Animals only take what they need to survive, man takes until he destroys. The earth has been entrusted to the stewardship of man and we are failing. The point is that we have to take care of “our world” not just for us but for ALL her creatures. If we don’t mankind will have no home at all. The ideal world is a place where man and nature coexist without destroying each other. My “native-ness” may be showing here but living in harmony and walking in beauty would be a good start.
