Thought For The Day: Feb. 19, 2019 “The Drama Sponge”

Happy Tuesday,

Are you a drama sponge? A drama sponge absorbs whats going on around them both directly and indirectly.  While some people thrive on drama, the poor sponge gets it whether they want it or not. As always we have a choice to let it affect us or keep it at bay. Remember that your personal, mental, emotional and spiritual well being is more important than getting caught up in the harmful dramas around you. Maybe it’s time to wring yourself out and dry yourself off……

Herbal Muse: Peaceful Dreams Insomnia & Anxiety Elixer

The herbs in this formula have been used to induce relaxation and promote sleep for centuries and modern research validates their efficacy. Skullcap (Scutellaria lateriflora), for example, a member of the mint family that grows in the moist woodlands of northeastern North America, contains several flavonoid compounds (i.e., apigenin, baicalin and wogonin) with demonstrated anxiolytic (anti-anxiety) effects. The calming properties of passionflower and lavender are also well documented. In the latter, the mild sedative effects are produced by aromatic organic compounds called ketones. The sedative, anti-anxiety effects of passionflower are due to various alkaloids, most notably a group known as harmala alkaloids. Learn now to make this….

“Each difficult moment has the potential to open my eyes and open my heart.”

“Even the most daring and accomplished people have undergone tremendous difficulty. In fact, the more successful they became, the more they attributed their success to the lessons learned during their most difficult times. Adversity is our teacher. When we view adversity as a guide towards greater inner growth, we will then learn to accept the wisdom our soul came into this life to learn.”
— Barbara Rose

“No matter what difficulty you are facing, it is coming from Divine Light to bring you to a higher place within. Write down every conceivable reason that this situation can contribute towards your growth. Write down every way this experience can possibly set the stage for serving to uplift others. When you are complete, and have come to the other side of this experience, you will then know ‘why’ it happened.”

February’s Full “Quickening” Moon

FebruarysFullMoon_zps07050fa0[1]

February’s Full “Quickening” Moon

Date: February 19, 2019

Time: 7:53 am PST  / 8:53 am MST / 10:53 am EST

On Tuesday, February 19th we celebrate the “Quickening Moon”. Other names for this moon are the Trappers Moon, Budding Moon, Moon When Trees Pop, Ice Moon, Storm Moon, Hunger Moon, Horning Moon, Big Winter Moon. The first signs of spring are beginning to show and you actually feel the earth waking up. The energy is dense and slow, it’s a time for new life and rebirth. At this time of year people are tired of being cooped up. They miss the light and warmth of the sun and like the sleeping plants find themselves reaching for a new beginning.

This moon is a good time for magical workings that involve focus on personal advancement and achievement. On a personal level work on plans for your future. What do you hope for and what dreams do you hold inside yourself? These are the things to consider as you set goals for yourself. The key is to be willing to accept responsibility for past mistakes and be mature enough to let them go and move on. Dare to dream and hope as you look into the future.

To honor this moon try wearing colors in shades of blue and purples and adorn yourself with sacred stones like rose quartz, amethyst and earthy jasper’s.
Blessings,

Cat

CoffeyTalk: Cupid and the Arrow

Cupid, Roman God of Love and perhaps the most famous of all Valentine symbols, has always played a role in the celebration of romance. As the son of Venus, he is often depicted as a mischievous, winged child whose arrows pierce the hearts of his victims, causing them to fall in love. Cupid is derived from the Latin word cupido, which means “desire.” His Greek counterpart is Eros (from whom comes the word “erotic”), young son of Aphrodite, Goddess of Love and Beauty, and Ares, God of War. In Greek mythology, Eros has a brother named Anteros, sometimes represented as the Avenger of Slighted Love and sometimes depicted as the symbol of Reciprocal Affection.

According to legend, Cupid’s arrows come in two varieties: the Golden Arrow, which generally signifies true love, and the Leaden Arrow, which represents wanton and sensual passion. He is also known to sometimes carry a torch with which to inflame desire between men and women. Cupid is not always successful in his endeavors, however. Sometimes his arrows turn people away from those who fall in love with them. In some mythological tales, Venus was scratched by one of Cupid’s arrows while playing with her son, the result being that the Godddess fell instantly in love with Adonis…the first man she saw after receiving the wound.

The arrow is the symbol for direction, flight and penetration. When used as a weapon, it is a symbol of power for the person who carries it, along with the bow. As a sacred symbol, Artemis/Diana, the Goddess of the Hunt as well as Eros used their arrows to pierce people’s hearts with love. In this case, the arrow also serves as a phallic symbol or masculine power. On Valentine’s Day, we see the symbol of a heart pierced with an arrow, which is actually a covert symbol meaning sexual union. When used as a symbol of direction it can be used both physically and metaphorically. When we see an arrow shooting high in the sky, it is an emblem of the link between heaven and earth or a message being carried directly to the Gods.

The arrow is also an analogy for sureness and swiftness since the arrow can only travel in a straight line. The astrological sign of a Sagittarius has the hybrid creature always in the process of shooting an arrow from its bow. Sagittarius has a Latin root, sagitta, meaning “arrow” and derived from a verb sagire meaning “to perceive keenly or quickly.” Therefore, the symbolism behind the arrow is intuition and quick-wittedness.

LOVE LIFE AND YOURSELF

“Being deeply loved by someone gives you strength while loving someone deeply gives you courage.”
— Lao Tzu

There are two basic motivating forces: fear and love. When we are afraid, we pull back from life. When we are in love, we open to all that life has to offer with passion, excitement, and acceptance.

We need to learn to love ourselves first, in all our glory and our imperfections. If we cannot love ourselves, we cannot fully open to our ability to love others or our potential to create. Evolution and all hopes for a better world rest in the fearlessness and open-hearted vision of people who embrace life.

“It matters not Who you love, Where you love, Why you love, When you love, Or how you love, It matters only that you love.”

Spirituality
“Although I try
to hold the single thought
of Buddha’s teaching in my heart,
I cannot help but hear
the many crickets’ voices calling as well.”
-Izumi Shikibu (c 1000)
Sometimes following our spiritual practices can be a challenge because we are so distracted by the demands of everyday life. This is true for everyone – there never seems to be enough time, or enough quiet, to set aside for prayer, meditation, or contemplation. It is so worth it when we do! And yet, spirituality does not have to be a separate experience from the rest of our lives. We can choose to hear the beautiful song of the crickets’ voices as a gift from God. We can choose to express gratitude for the full and exciting lives we lead, however busy we may be!

Inner Journey:

DIRECT YOUR SUBCONSCIOUS MIND

“The power to move the world is in the subconscious mind.”
— William James

Our subconscious mind creates our lives perfectly according to how it has been programmed. It works 24 hours of every day, 365 days per year. It accepts instructions from the conscious mind, checks on old inner programming and executes.

The subconscious mind acts on old beliefs stored over a lifetime. Many of those beliefs you may have accepted without thinking. Or you may have absorbed them when you were too young to exercise choice. Many of the beliefs that govern your life may no longer match what you now hold to be true.

Nonetheless, the subconscious mind is the director till you rewrite the scripts. Put some effort into getting it working on your positive, conscious intentions instead of your old limiting, unconscious beliefs and your life will change.

“If a man devotes himself to the instructions of his own unconscious, it can bestow this gift [of renewal], so that suddenly life, which has been stale and dull, turns into a rich unending inner adventure, full of creative possibilities.”
— Marie-Louise von Franz

“Nothing in all nature is so lovely and so vigorous, so perfectly at home in its environment, as a fish in the sea. Its surroundings give to it a beauty, quality, and power which is not its own. We take it out, and at once a poor, limp dull thing, fit for nothing, is gasping away its life. So the soul, sunk in God, living the life of prayer, is supported, filled, transformed in beauty, by a vitality and a power which are not its own.”

-Evelyn Underhill, The Golden Sequence (1932)
We are spiritual beings, and in this human existence, where we encounter conflict and stress, we often feel like a fish out of water. We must immerse ourselves in our spirituality, and let it be our home. We find solace in our spiritual practices, whatever they are for each one of us. And then we can bring that good energy into all aspects of our lives, so that feeling of spirit is always with us.

Daily Good: Embracing the Great Fullness of Life

“We all have our ideas about how life should go. Ideas painted within us as hopes, longings, opinions. Those painted around us as cultural norms, trajectories, worthwhile goals. We have ideas in mind about most everything how our bodies should work, how love should work, how the world should work. Politics. Sleep. Weather. What we want and do not want. Ideas that make things bad or good, yes or no. And while these concepts can offer us valuable guidance about how we might approach life, they can also obscure and conflict with the vast majority of what is actually unfolding and is bound to unfold in our moment-to-moment, unpredictable lives and world.”

I have a bit of an obsession with history. Things left behind, sometimes easy to find but we can only guess at their meanings or uses. Symbols, pictures, difficult-to-interpret alphabets; I could look at them for hours, full of meaning that we are simply unable to understand.

Inner Journey:

LOVE YOURSELF

“It’s surprising how many persons go through life without ever recognizing that their feelings toward other people are largely determined by their feelings toward themselves, and if you’re not comfortable within yourself, you can’t be comfortable with others.”
— Sydney J. Harris

“We have the need to be accepted and to be loved by others, but we cannot accept and love ourselves. The more self-love we have, the less we will experience self-abuse. Self-abuse comes from self-rejection, and self-rejection comes from having an image of what it means to be perfect and never measuring up to that ideal. Our image of perfection is the reason we reject ourselves the way we are, and why we don’t accept others the way they are.”
— Don Miguel Ruiz

“There is no freedom like seeing myself as I am and not losing heart.”
— Elizabeth J. Canham

“If we could learn to like ourselves, even a little, maybe our cruelties and angers might melt away.”
— John Steinbeck

A Note from the Universe

It’s kind of strange but first you have to know what you want, defined in terms of the end result.

And then you have to physically move toward it, without defining the hows.

At which point, the thing you want actually starts coming to you, on its own terms, from a direction completely unexpected.

Not unlike a cat,

The Universe

Spirituality

“Peace is a necessary condition of spirituality, no less than an inevitable result of it.”

-Aldous Huxley (1894-1963)
Peace is reason enough for each of us to pursue our spirituality, and to encourage and support others who wish to do so, also. We experience inner peace through prayer, meditation, and spiritual activity. And that peace radiates outwards to affect our homes and communities. The more of us who live spiritually, the more peace there will be in the world!

Patheos-Pagan: Acknowledging Our Magical Origin Stories Makes Us Stronger

When I was a child and a teen, I didn’t know how to make sense of the magical things that happened to me. How could I process my out-of-body experiences, the voices I heard in my mind before someone else spoke them, or my innate, overwhelming love of the gods?

Inner Journey:

HEAL THE PAST

“What you bring forth out of yourself from the inside will save you. What you do not bring forth out of yourself from the inside will destroy you.”
— Gospel of Thomas

We can transform painful memories by re-imagining them from the soul’s perspective of love and meaning.

Andrew Schneider says that all experiences have the purpose of serving the soul. An experience in the past blocked us because our fear at the time distorted our perception of what happened. To transform this limiting experience, we must bring what was then unconscious into the soul’s realm through consciousness.

We can do this by following these steps:
1. RECALL the past experience that might inhibit us.
2. OWN the experience (no judgment, blame, etc.).
3. TAKE RESPONSIBILITY for it and the consequences (i.e., the experience was determined by my subjective perception of what occurred, dictated by my lack of wholeness — specifically my fears).
4. GIVE IT MEANING (the soul was attempting to gain some kind of mastery or skill, but we didn’t know that at the time).
5. RE-IMAGINE it from the perspective of soul consciousness (showing its higher purpose).

“Letting go of our suffering is the hardest work we will ever do. It is also the most fruitful. To heal means to meet ourselves in a new way — in the newness of each moment where all is possible and nothing is limited to the old.”
— Stephen Levine

Spirituality

“The spiritual quest begins, for most people, as a search for meaning.”

-Marilyn Ferguson, The Aquarian Conspiracy, 1980
We talk a lot about spiritual growth, but lets look a little deeper into what that really means to us. I think it’s true that most of us found ourselves on a spiritual path because we were looking for “more,” because we instinctively knew that there was something beyond the material world that could sustain us, nourish us, and fill our hearts. And perhaps all of our questions aren’t answered, but we catch glimpses of profound peace, and joy, and that keeps us going. Each day is new, each day we learn and grow and bask in the glow of spirit.
