MBG: Struggling With Willpower? A ‘Spiritual Anchor’ Is The Solution You’ve Been Looking For

A “spiritual anchor” is an object that reminds people of what gives their lives meaning and purpose and consequently why they may want to change their behavior. It’s a talisman that connects to the most powerful neuro-networks in the central nervous system those that influence behaviors. This is because meaning and purpose are strongly related to emotions that “emote movement” toward healthy choices, choices people make because they are associated with what matters most to them.

A Bountiful Moment

The longer we dwell on our misfortunes, the greater is their power to harm us. ~Voltaire

Daily Thought: When you look back at past experiences make sure you are focusing on the wins, the overcoming and the achievements. Don’t focus on what should have been, could have been or the what if? Focus on the positive aspects of you and your life will only grow more of the same. Be strong and support the best you to continue to be better and better

Daily Practice: Write yourself a small note of congratulations for all you have accomplished. Write it as if it is to someone you are really proud of and inspired by. Write as many details as possible describing what characteristics you see as impressive and awesome! Now read it back to yourself. Save it and read it over and over and over until you can believe it is you.

Have a Great Day and Believe in Yourself!

MNN: How to identify different types of bees

When was the last time you were in your garden, saw a bee, grabbed it and squeezed it? Probably never, right?

Unless you’ve done that, there’s a good chance that if you’ve ever been stung it wasn’t by a bee, said Becky Griffin. And she would know. Griffin teaches classes on bees to children and adults through the Center for Urban Agriculture at the University of Georgia Extension’s Northwest District and is a certified beekeeper in Cherokee County, Georgia

Patheos-Pagan: Lord of the Rings: Lessons to Remember, Lessons to Forget

A couple weeks ago some friends and I gathered for a Lord of the Rings marathon: all three movies back to back to back, complete with second breakfast, elevenes, lunch, dinner, and enough tea and ale to keep all the hobbits happy. It was a fun day – and a long day.

Tales of heroism – particularly from creatures as small and unlikely as hobbits – are popular with everyone

Inner Journey: What do you feed your mind

“I then remembered why I avoid the ‘news,’ if that’s what you want to call it. Our ‘news’ is a misnomer, and it’s more like ‘the ongoing train wreck you can tune in to at any time when you want to divert yourself from your purpose and your happiness… lose your faith in humanity… and go from feeling like things are pretty good to feeling like the world is going to sh*t and why bother going on, I mean really?'”
— Ali Brown

Our beliefs create our reality. If we wish to live happy, healthy lives, it’s vital that we feed our minds healthy, nourishing material. The negative, sensational focus of today’s ‘news’ media hardly serves to enlighten us about the true state of the planet. Let’s open to our limitless potential by keeping our focus firmly on what uplifts us.

“The world is not dying. It’s not falling apart. It’s changing. I personally believe that pessimism is an indulgence, despair an insult to the imagination. There are wonderfully positive things out there.”
— Wade Davis

Thought For The Day: April 27, 2018 “It’s Ok To Let Go”

Happy Friday,

During our lifetime people come and go. Some we hold close to our hearts forever, they make us feel good and help lift us up (these we keep). But there are others who hold us back, or that we have simply outgrown. (these we let go) Most things have an expiration date including some friendships. Ask yourself: *Does this relationship bring me joy? *Have I outgrown it?  * Is this in my best interest? Don’t be afraid to let things go and move on, it creates space for new and better things!

MBG: Why Clearing Space At Home Is So Important (And How It’s Done, According To Feng Shui)

Space clearing is a way to shake up the stagnant energy in a space. And according to feng shui philosophy, when you clear your home, you create freedom and openness in the rest of your life too.

Space clearing is quite literally decluttering the energy in your life, and the practice has gone mainstream in recent years. (By now, Im guessing almost all of us have come across sage sticks, gorgeous crystals, and maybe some chimes and Tibetan bowls.) One thing people don’t realize about space clearing is that it can be practical as well as mystical

MNN: How this bug photographer is changing the future for bees

It’s a wonderful thing to capture beautiful images of nature. But it’s an exceptionally wonderful thing if those beautiful images can become a protective force for the very nature you’re photographing. That’s what conservation photographers strive for.

And photographer Clay Bolt has managed to achieve just such a goal through his photographs of bees and other wildlife. For example, Bolt’s images of the rusty-patched bumblebee were a critical part of getting the species onto the U.S. endangered species list, a first for native North American bee species.

Inner Journey: Are You Afraid To Be Different?

On the path of evolution, we move from being a willing and obedient member of the group to wanting to take control over our own lives. This is a necessary but difficult transition.

Andrew Schneider says, “At this point we are afraid of being ourselves. We are afraid of being unique and different. We are afraid of being individually powerful, and even successful. For all of these things stand against the old ways that told us that conformity was right and individualism was wrong.”

“For as long as we possibly can, we make a compromise. We try to live both lives – the dependent tribal life and the independent personal life – as contradictory and opposite as they are.

“We want approval from others. We want to be accepted and popular. We seek this comfort to overcome our fear and feel more secure. …So, at times when we conform, we don’t feel the fear of living. But we might lose the new sense of adventure, discovery, daring and enthusiasm for life that the questioning and questing have brought us.”

“Nature never repeats herself, and the possibilities of one human soul will never be found in another.”
— Elizabeth Cady Stanton

A Note from the Universe

Expecting “end results” – such as wealth and abundance, health and harmony, friends and laughter – in broad brushstrokes, is part of the secret formula for manifesting the life of your dreams.

Expecting your path to follow a certain route – such as writing a bestseller to accumulate wealth, having a particular someone fall in love with you, or insisting upon this idea, that diet, or the other invention to be your deliverance – is just plain messing with the cursed hows and severely limits my options.

Cool?

“Never bring the car home without gas in the tank.” -Ron Shelton

Our spiritual practice is as essential to our soul as food is to our body. Practice provides us with the fuel which gets us through those difficult times. It leads us to peace, clarity, wisdom, and so much more. And just like a car, we can run out of “gas” when we’re stressed out from going for a lot of miles without a break. Make it a point to incorporate your spiritual practices into your day every day, and watch the difference in how you feel.

Thought For The Day: April 26, 2018 “Are You Upset?”

Happy Thursday,

We all have the choice whether to engage in drama or to walk away from it. To some people every little upset is a big deal. They don’t forgive, forget or let go. Holding on to every “upset’ uses up time and energy that could be spent on better things. Word of advice? Don’t be one of these people. You have better things to do and besides….. your inner peace will thank you for it!

Spirituality & Healing: 3 Ways to Reduce Commitment Overload

There’s one of those expressions going around, the kind printed on signs, keychains and pillows: Let whatever you do today be enough. I want it to be enough, but it feels like there is always three times as much to do as can possibly get done in 24 hours. Feeling chronically overwhelmed is a signal that it’s time to reduce your commitments. Other symptoms may include backing out of plans, being perpetually exhausted, or not having time to devote to self-care. Pioneer Thinking: Hawthorn Berry – The Heart Herb

Ancient Greeks used hawthorn berries for heart disease. The Greeks and Romans looked to hawthorn as a source of happiness and hope for the future. The berries were used by the Chinese for digestion and circulatory problems. Christian legend says that the crown of thorns that was placed upon the head of Christ was made from hawthorn. The crushed fruit or leaves were used as a poultice for their drawing powers to remove thorns and splinters for centuries in England. Native Americans believed that hawthorn was useful for rheumatism and heart problems.

In the writings of Carl Jung, the Shadow is not purely positive or negative. While it contains a lot of really negative things about ourselves that we don’t want to look at, it’s not just purely negative things. Our ego focuses on how we are different from the rest of the world. We connect with soul when we experience how we are the same.

Most of us notice how gorgeous gardens are when the sun is shining, but how often do we see what a garden looks like at night? Between dusk and dawn, when moonlight illuminates the plants, visitors can enjoy unique insight into a garden’s personality.

Night pollinators such as moths, native bees and bats are attracted to plants in a moon garden with white and pale-colored flowers that are intensely fragrant and produce a lot of nectar. As you walk through the moon garden, you will be able to watch these varied and industrious third-shift pollinators as they go about their important work.

Aquilegia or Grannies Bonnet is a very common cottage garden plant that some people even consider a weed. However, there are some really beautiful varieties of this stunning little plant that should have a place in every herbaceous border. Nora Barlow is a very old variety that has tight buds of apple green, a colour which stays on the tip of the petals as they unfurl into a ball of pink and white flowers. Inner Journey: Awareness Through Love and Fear

“There is nothing holier in this life of ours than the first consciousness of love — the first fluttering of its silken wings — the first rising sound and breath of that wind which is so soon to sweep through the soul, to purify or to destroy.”
— Henry Wadsworth Longfellow

Our inner journey takes us through the following stages relative to love and fear:

1.UNCONSCIOUS LOVE: When we are born, we exist as pure love but we are not conscious of our love.
2.UNCONSCIOUS FEAR: Our souls have set the stage for our evolution. As we grow, unconscious fears arise in our personalities that draw experiences to us that wound us.
3.CONSCIOUS FEAR: Our wounds bring pain and suffering that enable us to become conscious of our fears.
4.CONSCIOUS LOVE: When we’ve suffered enough pain, we are motivated to move through our fears to consciously experience the love that supports all.

“Love is but the discovery of ourselves in others, and the delight in the recognition.”

“Whoever perseveres will be crowned.” -Johann Gottfried von Herder (German author, 1744-1803)

Remember the old joke, “How do you get to Carnegie Hall?” The punchline is “Practice, practice, practice!” Funny, but oh, so true! How do we reach that peace of mind, how do we get to that spiritual place that we’re looking for? The answer is the same: Practice, practice, practice! We’re going to get better at seeing ourselves as who we really are the more we practice actually being it. Whatever practice you choose, practice on a regular basis, practice every day, twice a day or more so.

Thought For The Day: April 24, 2018 “What Really Matters”

Happy Tuesday,

Life really is short and older you get the more you realize it. It’s easy to get caught up in things like drama, feuds or worry. Pretty soon we have wasted copious amounts of time on things that really don’t matter and have missed out on what does. Remember that some battles are worth fighting but most are not. Choose wisely and make the most of NOW.

MBG: 6 Myths & Misconceptions About Medical Marijuana

We’re currently in the middle of a cannabis revolution. Slowly but surely the plant which was once dispensed at U.S. pharmacies and used as a legitimate medicine as recently as the 1930s has fought its way back into a positive light after years of being maligned as a dangerous, corrupting influence. State by state we are joining the long list of countries who have embraced the healing powers of this plant and stopped jailing people for growing, selling, and using it.

Patheos-Pagan: Welcome to the Growing Season!

As I look out my office window across the yard I see tiny sprouts of green finally poking through the ground inspire of tiny bits of snow scattered here and there. The rhubarb, tulips, daffodils, crocus, garlic and onion are multiple shades of green with hints of reds and pinks in them. The pussy willow is busting into large tuffs and the lilac and forsythia have budded.

Inner Journey: The Eyes of the Soul

Today, we want to share a passage from Martia Nelson’s book, ‘Coming Home’:
“My greatest teacher was the experience of living in split realities: personality and true self. Personality is our daily companion, our conscious self that sees the world through the eyes of limitation and dutifully keeps us informed about what we can and cannot do. True self, on the other hand, patiently stands by, offering the unwavering knowledge that a state of vibrant well- being and unlimited possibility is our true nature, a birthright that can be lived if we choose to do so. … True self simply refers to the aspect of our being that is completely aware of its expanded nature no matter what we may be experiencing at the time.”

Whenever we feel constrained, fearful, unworthy, inadequate or anything we deem to be negative, we have identified with our personality. We can always choose to view the same situation from the perspective of our soul.

“As a Witness, you begin to discover that you are not that which you have been observing; you are not those things that you have been noticing about your body. Instead, you are the noticer.”
— Wayne Dyer

Today’s Recipe: Green Tea Infused Edamame

Edamame is a delicious young soybean, often eaten straight out of the pods. You can find them in the frozen section of any grocery store, in the pod or shelled. I prefer to eat them from the pod; I find it more fun and much more tasty. Cooking the pods in a pot of boiling green tea gives it a nice dimension, aroma, and lovely texture.

Practice

“We must be the change we wish to see in the world.” ~-Mahatma Gandhi

Our spiritual practice has purpose. It helps us to learn and grow and feel our connection with the Divine. And it also helps to lift the spiritual energy of the whole planet! The more people who devote time to spiritual practice, the better off our world will be. So, there are two things we can each do, every day, to help ourselves and each other.

1. Continue regular spiritual practices. This includes prayer, meditation, reading spiritual works, serving others, and giving of our time and talents.
2. Encourage others to spend time pursuing their own spiritual practices. This may mean babysitting some youngsters so their mother can spend some time in silence, or sending enlightening e-mails on to friends!

Beliefnet: Daily Blessings in Disguise

There are so many expectations that are packed into a day. From getting the kids to school in the morning to making a decision as to whats for dinner, each day seems to have an endless list of to-dos. And the hustle and bustle infiltrates a cloud that engulfs our day-to-day, making it difficult to come up for air and recognize the many blessings that embody our life each day. In most cases, we take these blessings for granted because theyve become second nature to us and have become a necessary standard of life. However, its important to take a moment each day and remember the small things.

Thought For The Day: April 23, 2018″ It’s Ok To Say No Way”

Happy Monday,

Do you remember your parents saying “If so and so jumped off a cliff, would you do it too?” Our thought for today is about going long with the crowd….. or not going along with it as the case may be. If someone is pushing you to do something  that a) you don’t want to do, b) gives you that funny feeling or c) is just plain doesn’t feel right, take time to stop and think. Remember don’t be a Sheeple…. you don’t have to go along with the crowd. It’s perfectly ok, fine and dandy to say “No thanks!” and go your own way!
