MNN: From fuzzy fluffball to stately bird: The life cycle of an eagle

When a much-awaited eagle egg hatches, a tiny cottony ball of fluff slowly emerges. This fuzzy, wobbly handful of cute is utterly dependent on its doting parents. Soon, however, the white fluff gives way to brown feathers and the bird tests its wings, soaring and growing and eventually becoming a regal image of its parents. Here’s a look at how tiny eaglets make the remarkable transformation from hairy hatchlings to majestic adult birds.

Beliefnet: 5 Ways to Silence Your Inner Critic
Depression and self-criticism are great companions. Here are 5 tips to move past them.

Health Journal columnist Melinda Beck penned an amazingly accurate and helpful article in the Wall Street Journal about the self-criticism that so often accompanies depression and anxiety. Not only was I delighted that she approached such a difficult and complicated aspect of our illness with compassion and insight, but I was ecstatic to see myself as one of the “experts” mentioned with suggestions on how to silent the annoying voice that says we are incapable, weak, and worthless.

Patheos-Pagan: Principles of Bardic Awareness

Developing your awareness helps you get clear about your life, aligns you to the Sacred, and enables you to become ever more alive. It is not enough to learn about awareness intellectually, however. In order to make any difference at all, it is essential that you put what you learn into practice and integrate it into your life. Bards learn, first and foremost, that true reality is not “out there” and that life isn’t what it seems to be. They come to know that the truth lies within, in the heart. Druids call the physical world the “apparent world” to indicate that it reflects only what reality appears to be, not what it truly is.

Inner Journey: Higher Perspectives

“Bias and impartiality is in the eye of the beholder.”
— Lord Barnett

According to Andrew Schneider, the radical difference between personality awareness and soul consciousness is a difference in perspectives. Acquiring a soul perspective allows us to see things differently – and we always see a more inclusive, universal picture. This expanded view adds to an understanding, enjoyment and appreciation of life.

If I insist on hanging on to a personality perspective that is contrary to a soul perspective, the two perspectives will clash. This challenges me to find a way through to a deeper truth than I previously knew. This kind of tension between soul and personality positions is typical of the prelude to transformation that is a vital part of the soul journey.

Are You Finding Inner Peace?

“Peace is a daily, a weekly, a monthly process, gradually changing opinions, slowly eroding old barriers, quietly building new structures.”

John F. Kennedy (1917-1963) United Nations address, Sept 1961

What I like about this quote is that while President Kennedy was obviously talking about the world situation, about establishing world peace, it also works really well if you apply the worlds toward INNER peace. Isn’t this the process that we all go through to attain higher states of consciousness and become at peace with ourselves? We change our minds, and our thoughts, to reflect what we learn and experience. We gently and quietly build new patterns and practices that help to bring peace to both our inner and outer worlds.

MNN: 13 inspiring quotes from Martin Luther King Jr.

King’s famous words are a reminder of how to live in any era.

Martin Luther King Jr.’s name is synonymous with the civil rights movement that swept the nation in the ’60s. He fought for equal rights for African-Americans at a time when segregation was prevalent. From his iconic “I Have a Dream” speech during the March on Washington in 1963 to his famous Alabama march from Selma to Montgomery, King was a beacon of hope during a dark time in American history. He advocated for non-violence, preaching love, acceptance and equality while pushing for change.

Patheos-Pagan: Why We Believe in Untrue Things

I got through most of the Ostara/Easter season without seeing the dreaded “This is Ishtar: Pronounced Easter” meme. (For those of you not in the know, Ishtar/Easter is an inaccurate meme often passed around by Pagans and atheists near Easter. Ishtar was never pronounced “Easter” and the holiday we call “Easter” in English wasn’t called that for several hundred years. In other words, the entire theory is silly.) But things turned around on Easter Sunday with the Ishtar/Easter meme coming back to life on social media. (Sort of like Zombie-Jesus, but I digress.)

Inner Journey: Nothing Needs To Be Fixed

“If you are ready to accept all which you find in yourself, you will be able to move through everything with deep sensitivity, awareness, love and understanding.”
— Gerd Ziegler

As we understand it, the spiritual journey is not about becoming perfect. It’s about acceptance, releasing judgment, and embracing everything in wholeness.

This is a great challenge for our personality. We’ve grown up comparing ourselves to others, always judging how we’re better and worse than those around us. And many of us are very good at finding fault with ourselves.

If we release judgment, then nothing needs to be fixed — including you. Explore inviting your soul to help you accept all that is and experience a whole new way of living.

“Wherever you are is always the right place. There is never a need to fix anything, to hitch up the bootstraps of the soul and start at some higher place. Start right where you are.”
— Julia Cameron

A Note from the Universe

For simply giving thanks when you lie down to sleep each night or from time to time, for no reason or rhyme, you’ll begin to move with life instead of against it.

You’ll be shown that life could not possibly be more beautiful than it already is. You’ll see that you are the fountainhead of your experience. You’ll remember that you transcend all things time and space, and thus are their very master. And you’ll find that you live in a paradise where the only thing that truly seems impossible is how powerful you really are and how much you are loved.

What else would you think about, anyway?

Phew!

Peace

“I have found that life persists in the midst of destruction and therefore must be a higher law than that of destruction. Only under that law would a well-ordered society be intelligible and life worth living.”  ~-Mahatma Gandhi

With everything we’ve been through these past few months, these words ring true, loud and clear. Peace is a process, an ongoing movement that doesn’t stand still. We are all a part of this process, and our contributions to a peaceful society make a difference.

MNN: Act like a Swede and take a ‘fika’ break today

The American concept of a coffee break sometimes feels like something of a misnomer in that the “break” aspect means little more than heading to a coffee shop or cart, getting a tall/venti/whatever size to-go cup of coffee and returning to your desk.

The hustle-and-bustle expectation of the American workday isn’t really built for an actual break, but the Swedish workday is constructed with such breaks in mind, and there’s even a word for it: fika.

Thought For The Day: April 5, 2018 “What Does Normal Mean Anyway?”

Happy Thursday,
We’re all unique and in our own way we’re all normal. Sometimes we have doubts about ourselves and sometimes we wonder if we talked, acted or looked different if we would be happier.  Happy people are the ones who accept themselves and everything about them. Do they want to change things… of course. The difference is that they want to change to please themselves, not somebody else. Love yourself and everything about you. Dare to be yourself, the unique, amazingly “normal” person that you are!

A Bountiful Moment

The answers to your questions, dreams, desires are around you everywhere you just need to be aware.

Daily Thought: It is easy to feel like you don’t have the answers or become overwhelmed at a situation that is new. But the answer to what is creating the anxiety is there right in front of you. All you have to do is sit still for a moment and listen. Quieting your mind and being open to the answers that surround you is the challenge not the situation you are facing.

Daily Practice: When you are faced with a challenge today look at it clearly by quieting your mind and looking past what is creating the fear. Take a deep breathe in and slowly release it two to three times. Now relook at the situation and act on the solution that enters your mind. Move through the situation by acting not thinking.

Patheos-Pagan: Paganism as an Orientation

Back at the end of February I came across this excellent piece by Heron Michelle titled Witchery as an Orientation and Sacred Mission. It’s her story of how being a witch isn’t a choice for her – it’s part of who and what she is. The essay is worth your time to read in its entirety – here’s a key quote:

Witchery isn’t a choice for me. There is a being-ness to witchery, the aptitude for deeply, broadly sensing a far greater “normal” than others … Those with an orientation of witchery, naturally glide past the veil of illusion as our second-nature. This tends to become isolating, as muggle-society pushes us to the fringes, and calls us “crazy.”

Inner Journey: Open to Awareness

“Mindfulness means moment-to-moment, non-judgmental awareness. It is cultivated by refining our capacity to pay attention, intentionally, in the present moment, and then sustaining that attention over time as best we can. In the process, we become more in touch with our life as it is unfolding.”
— Myla & Jon Kabat-Zinn

Why do we want to become more aware?

If we remain unaware, we:
•repeat the past,
•remain stuck in relationships,
•live superficial, literal and one dimensional lives,
•lack experiences of love and beauty, and
•have limited connection to others and the universe.

With awareness, we are fully involved with life. Awareness is sensing deeply and sensitively for what really is. To do this, we need to approach the present as totally new. When we can be open and attentive in each moment, we begin to free ourselves from the conditioning of the past and the suffering that it so often brings.

“If moment by moment you can keep your mind clear then nothing will confuse you.”

Happy Wednesday,
Everyone’s dreams are important….. yours, mine and theirs. Each of us is responsible for building our own and we can’t rely on others to do it for us. Sometimes we get suckered in to helping others  create their dream. They don’t care about your dream they just want you on board to help make theirs happen. This is not okay. Remember that your dream is just as important as theirs. if it meshes with yours… great! If not then make sure that you don’t let yours fall by the wayside. Peace

“Our goal must be not peace in our time but peace for all time.”  -Harry S. Truman (1884-1972) Informal remarks, Galesberg, Illinois, 1950

In turbulent times, where is our attention? On the problem? Or on the desired outcome? What can we do to help the world situation, while we are here comfortable in our homes and we know that others are suffering? We can’t all go out and battle, nor would that help even if we could. We must think peace. We must bring our attention to peace. We must create a unified consciousness of PEACE ON EARTH, GOODWILL TO ALL. We must build a class consciousness of love and caring. You can do anything you set your mind to so don’t sell yourself short and be Negative Nellie. You’ve totally got this!

mindbodygreen: The Spiritual Benefit Of Travel & How To Find It Without Leaving Home

When you ask people why they travel, the responses are usually quite similar: a desire for adventure, a chance to experience new places and cultures, a breakaway from the routine. But sometimes you hear an answer that goes deeper than that one that highlights another, more profound aspect of traveling that not everyone is talking about: the fact that travel is a profoundly spiritual experience.

Spirit Library: When you don’t feel so positive…

While we always encourage positive thinking and ask you to focus on what you wish to create in your life, we know that there are times when you feel lost in a dark emotional storm.

While we always encourage positive thinking and ask you to focus on what you wish to create in your life, we know that there are times when you feel lost in a dark emotional storm. There are times when you are overcome with grief, times when anger from the past comes uncorked, and times when you feel possessed by jealousy, insecurity, or doubt.

Patheos-Pagan: Healing the Witch’s Heart

Break-up’s are a common human experience and they completely suck. Whatever the specific circumstances are, going through the loss of a relationship is a grieving process. And just like the grieving process we experience after the death of a loved one, we go through stages of denial, anger, bargaining, depression, and acceptance. We vacillate through these stages while we adapt to our new lives without our partner(s

Inner Journey: To Support Or Not

It is not helpful to help a friend by putting coins in his pockets when he has got holes in his pockets.”
— Douglas Hurd

Are you struggling financially because you are helping another adult who is being irresponsible around money?

Without intending to do so, we can keep people dependent when we are willing to financially rescue them. Enablers typically feel it’s their duty to help out. They may see giving money as an expression of love. Unfortunately, they may lose their own financial security as a result.

As hard as it may be to do, the solution may lie in forcing the dependent to find his or her own way financially. In this case, it’s not selfish to not lend a hand — it actually serves the highest interests of all. Learning personal responsibility can be a tough road but it’s a necessary one for empowerment.

“Few things help an individual more than to place responsibility upon them and to let them know that you trust them.”
— Booker T. Washington

A Note from the Universe

Sometimes one of the most helpful things you can do for another is to let them learn stuff for themselves, at their own pace.

It’s also one of the most helpful things you can do for yourself.

Peace

“Love is not a doctrine. Peace is not an international agreement. Love and Peace are beings who live as possibilities in us.” ~Mary Caroline Richards, (Centering, 1964)

This time of year, and particularly this year, I find myself thinking more about peace, and about peace on earth. If we are correct, and it all begins with each of us, then it is more important than ever to find peace within ourselves. We all know how to find that peace through our spiritual practices. So, practice, practice, practice! And then bring that beautiful peace out into the world where it is so needed.

MNN: These sweet dogs are full of life lessons

Vegemite is a 7-year-old Japanese Chin and Pekingese mix who lost his eye when he was attacked by another dog. He had emergency surgery, but his eye couldn’t be saved.

The loss didn’t do anything to damper the pup’s upbeat personality, says photographer Alex Cearns, who was so enamored with Vegemite, above, she made him the cover boy of her book, “Perfect Imperfection.”

Thought For The Day: April 2, 2018 “Dreams and Goals”

Happy Monday,

It’s a new month and that means that a new cycle has begun. Our week starts with a reminder about our powers of manifestation. What? Of course you have them… everyone does! We are responsible for making things happen in our lives and for initiating the changes that help us to grow. What are your dreams, your goals, your desires? Are you working on them now or are they stuffed in a closet somewhere? It’s time to dig them out and take inventory. Set a goal, even a small one and before you know it you are manifesting great things! Now go………. create!
