September’s Full Corn Moon: 9-6

September Full Corn Moon

  September 6, 2017 at 3:03 am EST

“Crown’d with the sickle, and the sheaten sheaf, while Autumn, nodding o’er the yellow plain, comes jovial on”   ~ James Thomson, Autumn, 1730

The Old Farmer’s Almanac calls this moon the Full Corn Moon however this year there seems to be some debate as to whether this is the Harvest Moon. The Harvest moon usually occurs in September but can also fall in early October which is the closest date to the Autumn Equinox. The Harvest Moon will actually be in October this year. Many of the Native American tribes’ staple foods, such as corn, pumpkins, squash, beans, and rice, were ready for harvesting during this month.

Other names for this moon are Chrysanthemum Moon (china), Nut Moon (cherokee), Mulberry Moon (choctaw), Singing Moon (celtic),  and Barley Moon (medieval english).

As Mother Earth  begins her journey into the  dark part of the year, the sun pulls away and we get that welcome autumn chill. September is a time of hearth and home. For Kitchen Witches this is a great time to reestablish your hearth and kitchen altars. Take time as well to acknowledge the things that we have accomplished since spring and declutter both home and self in preparation of winter’s season of introspection.

To get in the autumn mood and celebrate this months element of earth try wearing browns, greens and other earthy colors.
Sacred Stones: Citrine, Peridot, Bloodstone
Sacred Herbs: Grains, Valerian, Witch Hazel
Deities: Hearth Goddesses, Demeter, Brighid, Vesta, Freya

Full moon blessings!

Thought for the Day: September 5, 2017 “Butt Prints”

Happy Tuesday, three days in the mountains was just what I needed!

I love this quote. It’s a great reminder that nothing can be accomplished if we just sit and wait for things to happen. Do the things you have been putting off or have left unfinished. Ignite your creative spark and fan the flames. Try something new or different. Be true to yourself and BE yourself and above all embrace the adventure that is waiting for you! Remember….. NO butt prints!

The Celtic Tree Month of Vine

I dreamed this mortal part of mine
Was metamorphosed to a vine,
Which, crawling one and every way…
from Robert Herrick’s “The Vine”VINE LORE

The Celtic month of Vine or Muin runs from September 2nd to September 29th.

The month of Vine is the bridge between the Autumn Equinox and the dark time of the year that begins at Samhain. Muin is an Ogham word that means highest of beauty and strongest of effort and the Irish word Muine means thicket.

Vine symbolizes emotion and sensuality and represents the clinging aspirations of artists and of poets. Vine refers to specifically to the Grape Vines. In mythology, the grape vine is personified in the God Dionysus or Bacchus, who brought the art of wine making to mankind. Carvings of this god show him with an ivy wreath upon his head and his body covered with grapes and leaves. As such he resembles the GreenMan of the celtic traditions. In Pagan/Wiccan traditions the five pointed leaves are sacred to the Goddess as is the spiral growing pattern of thevines themselves.

PLANT INFORMATION

This is not a tree but more like a shrub and is probably the oldest cultivated plant in the world. It is a long lived plant and scientists have found fossilized grape leaves that date back 40 million years! These vines have large lobed leaves and produce small whitish flowers, that in turn produce grapes. Vine can grow up to 115 feet in length and live to a recorded life span of 600 years. The stem of very old grape vines have been know to produce “planks” 15 inches wide when cut. This vine has no uses other than wine making.

In healing, vine is known for it’s restorative and regenerative powers. It can help with fever, the leaves and seeds were used to stop hemmoraging, bleeding and inflamation. Grapes are rich in iron, and vitamins and provide an excellent source of instant energy. They are also a laxative and a diuretic. Blackberries were used by the ancient Greeks to treat gout. In England the leaves were used to treat burns while berries were used to treat bug bites, loose teeth and sore throats. The bark and roots are known for their astringent properties and are still used today.

VINE IN MAGICK

Vine is female and is ruled by the moon. It can be used to promote prosperity, fertility, mental powers and can be used in garden magick. Ritual uses include celebrations, grounding and faery magick. Use the leaves of this plant to enhance your own goals and ambitions. Vine is also one of the nine sacred woods burned at Beltane as a symbol of joy.

Vines properties are as follows:

Thistle: Protection, strength, exorcism, hex breaking
Blueberry: Spirituality, protection and dream magick
Grape: Garden magick fertility, prosperity/money and binding
Blackberry: Protection, healing and properity

To dream of grapes/blackberries is a sign of abundance, if the leaves are green then success is coming your way and if you are harvesting the berries your income will be a good one. To dream of walking through a vinyard fortells of prosperity.

Here is a recipe for Vine Moon Tea (good for use in Earth magic, sex magic, overcoming difficulties):
1 part blackberry
1 part dandelion
splash of currant wine or Grape juice
pinch of hibiscus

VINE PEOPLE

Vine people have high personal standards and tend to be natural socializers and well organized. They also have well developed insticts and an eye for detail however this can become an issue as they can be highly self critical. They are also secretly romantic and sensitive. Vine people have a dual personality and can be happy one minute and down the next. It is important for Vine people to learn the importance of balance between giving and receiving.

To choose Vine as a magickal name can indicate that you are a climber and have great potential. You are willing to work hard to achieve what you want.

Deities: Dionysus, Osirus, Branwen,Brigid, Danu, Freya , Hathor, Bacchus, Dagd, Etain.

Any Road Will Take You There: Cat’s Angel Message for September 1-4 2017

OLYMPUS DIGITAL CAMERA

Since I will be out of town for Labor Day weekend our Angel Message will include Sept 1-4. have a safe and happy weekend! ~ Cat

Any Road Will Take You There: Cat’s Angel Message for September 1, 2017

September’s Theme:  Life Purpose.  Sometimes we have a clear vision of what that is and sometimes we don’t. Many of us fall into the second category and that’s OK!  Remember that everything you do has an impact on your world and the people in it and around you. Life Missions can be very simple, like making “tiny miracles” happen for others or even making your own life or the life of a loved one better.  Sometimes the small things are the best!

If you don’t know where you’re going, any road will take you there. ~ Lewis Carroll (Alice in Wonderland)

91: Today the angels are calling on all Lightworkers. Our world is in need of healing right now so take some time today and send loving, healing energy out to those in need. Even if Lightwork isn’t your calling you can still help by sending peaceful vibes to those around you or sending love to those who need it. We all have the power to make a difference by promoting a positive view to those around us. The angels are telling us that it’s a great day to lead by example!

92:  This month we will be working in areas that relate to our Life Purpose (see our theme for September). Just like when you start any other “project” working with your Life Purpose/Mission requires faith in yourself to make things happen. Even if you aren’t exactly sure what you Mission//Purpose is (not knowing is OK) be assured that if  something compels you to take action and you do what is needed that you are on the right path. For example you may feel moved to help someone who really needs it, do volunteer work, helping out a disabled or elderly neighbor or something along these lines, you get the picture! Be open to what your inner guidance tells you and you will always be headed in the right direction.

93: The Ascended Masters are encouraging us to try something new today like start a new project, or do something you’ve never done. Doing so will draw new things (abundance, relationships, opportunities) into our lives and can even help us with our Life Mission/Purpose. Remember to continue letting go of outdated thoughts, feelings habits or things that no longer bring us joy or serve our highest good. By getting rid of these things we are making much needed room for the new blessings headed our way and giving them room to grow. This will help us this month on our quest to embrace our Life Mission and move forward on our person and spiritual journey!

94: We are all extraordinary beings of light and we are as unique as snowflakes. Each person has different gifts to share with the world and today the angels are asking us to share our light with others. This can be done with a smile, a word of encouragement, a healing touch or even as simple as giving someone a hug.  What matters most is allowing yourself to shine and be a light for another. We never know what others are going through and sometimes all they need is a little loving light to bring peace and comfort. Let yourself shine for someone today!

During these 4 day try working with Archangel Chamuel who helps us with our Divine Life Purpose. He shows us the way to finding what truly calls to us and how to share those gifts with others. Chamuel also works with those whose mission includes world peace. Our Sacred Stones include Life Path crystals (long thin, clear quartz w/ one or more absolutely smooth sides) help access our life purpose. Helping you to go with the flow and follow what your soul wants not what your ego wants and Golden Beryl (Heliodor) which can  help to eliminate the confusion surrounding our Life Purpose.

Blessings for a magickal day!

Thought for the Day: September 1, 2017 “The Mountains Are Calling”

Happy Friday!

My Labor day weekend starts today and it’s time for a little self care. I will be unplugged until Tuesday (and gratefully so). The mountains are calling and there is nature to commune with. I hope that you too will take some time to replenish your hearts and spirits. Whatever you choose to do be safe and have fun!

Thought for the Day: August 31, 2017 “Family-Unity-Community”

Happy Thursday,

Hate has been in the news a lot lately. People can be pretty ugly sometimes and that’s pretty sad. There are a lot of reasons that people hate; fear, jealousy and ignorance are just a few. The truth is that hate solves nothing and only breeds more hate and violence. There is always a better way, maybe not perfect ways but better. If everyone could embrace the fact that we may all be different yet we are all the same on so many levels. We all want, freedom, security, love and peace. We need to learn to look past the outside and see what’s inside. We need to stop seeing others as them and us and start seeing everyone as family. Because that’s exactly what we are……Family.

Thought for the Day: August 30, 2017 “It’s About Community”

Happy Wednesday!

Our thought for today is about the power of community. We need only to look at the people of Texas as they band together after Hurricane Harvey. The truth is that it shouldn’t take a national disaster to bring people together. If we embraced the brotherhood of community everyday just think of all we could accomplish! While we have so many wonderful people in the world, we still have a long way to go. If we all do our part, even if it’s something small we can, and do make a difference!

Thought for the Day: August 29, 2017 ” The Perfect Chance”

Happy Tuesday!

Our thought for the day is about taking chances. As an introvert this is something I’m not very good at,and I really have to get myself  psyched up to do this. But once I take the plunge it’s usually ok.  Taking chances is how we create personal growth and this is important for our overall wellbeing.  There are a lot of us out there who balk at taking chances out of fear. Fear of failure, of looking silly,  or of new things in general. There comes a point when we have to step out of our comfort zone and grow, live, and  fly! Take a chance today, start with something small and embrace the fun and adventure of the creation process!

Thought for the Day: August 28, 2017 “Making the Best”

It’s a new week…..Happy Monday!

We all have goals and dreams, sometimes things work out and sometimes they don’t. Our overall success can be achieved by using whatever happens (good or not) and using that as a building block or step to the next level, it will make a firm foundation for future growth. If you become discouraged take a short break, step back, do something else and let it rest. These actions inspire new ideas so don’t count yourself short and give up. You have the ability to create anything you want so keep building, keep trying and keep moving upwards!

Why the Trees Lose Their Leaves

A Tale from the Cherokee Nation as told by Cat

In the beginning, and just as it is today, all creatures including the trees spoke to one another. They shared many things amongst themselves and with their neighbors. Just as we two-leggeds do. But during the winter all the birds would fly south. It was warm there and the birds big and small would sty there until spring. Then they would return home with their families.

That year as winter approached, Sparrow was hurt. He wasn’t well and he knew that he was not strong enough to make the yearly journey with his family to the south. So Sparrow told them to go to the warm place without him. At first they refused to leave him but Sparrow insisted and finally they left.

Because of his injuries Sparrow knew that he would not survive the winter without shelter. So he decided that he would ask the trees to help him.  He went first to Oak and said ” Friend Oak, as you can see I am hurt and cannot fly well. Winter is almost here and without shelter I will die. Will you help me by sheltering me within your beautiful leaves so that I can heal and greet my family when they return in the spring?” But Oak was an old tree who had little patience for guests particularly during the winter when he liked to sleep. “Go away Sparrow, I will not spend the winter listening to your chattering. Find somewhere else to make your shelter!”

Sparrow was greatly saddened by Oak’s words, they hurt deep in his tiny spirit.

He then went to see Maple. ” Friend Maple, as you can see I am hurt and cannot fly well. Winter is almost here and without shelter I will die. Will you help me by sheltering me within your thick, beautiful leaves so that I can heal and greet my family when they return in the spring?” asked Sparrow. But Maple didn’t want a guest for the winter either and said ” No Sparrow you cannot spend the winter with me…go now and ask another!”Again, Sparrows tiny spirit deeply hurt and turned away to look elsewhere for shelter.

And so it went, each of the trees from whom Sparrow asked for help turned him away. Until Pine was the only tree left. With a heavy heart and little hope Sparrow went to Pine. Friend Pine, as you can see I am hurt and cannot fly well. Winter is almost here and without shelter I will die. Will you help me by sheltering me within your leaves during the winter……?”

Pine was silent for a moment. He was thinking to himself  “What is there that I can do? I am the least of all the trees”. But Pines spirit heard the tiny birds plea and he said “Friend Sparrow, my leaves are not much, in fact they are like needles and my branches are different than the other trees…..but you are welcome to share what I have.” Thank you Pine cried Sparrow and his heat was filled with renewed hope. They spent the long winter together and when spring returned it brought with it Sparrow’s family. Sparrow flew out to greet them and there was such rejoicing. “Thank you Pine!” cried the happy sparrow family.

Now the Creator had been silently watching all this time. He had heard everything that had transpired between the Trees and Sparrow and he was saddened and angry. He called a council meeting of the trees and said ” You trees have been given so much. Yet you would not share even the smallest bit of what you had with Sparrow in his time of need. This hurt my spirit just as it hurt Sparrows! Because of this and from this day forward when winter comes to the land your leaves, your crowning glory will wither, die and blow away.”

Then the Creator spoke to Pine. “Pine you have touched my spirit and given me a great gift through your gift to Sparrow! You had the least to offer yet you gave freely to one in need. When winter comes you alone will keep your leaves and they shall stay green in all seasons. This is my gift to you!”

That is why, to this day, when winter comes Pine stays green while the other trees are bare.

Bright Blessings for a Magickal Week!
