ThoughtCo: Magical Banishing Spells

In many traditions of Paganism, banishing is done to get rid of negative or unwanted energy, or even people who may be causing problems in our lives. While some traditions frown upon banishing as manipulative magic, on the theory that it impacts the free will of another, if your tradition has no prohibitions against such things, then there’s no reason you can’t do a banishing spell.

Daily Good: George Orwell: Why I Write

When George Orwell was sixteen, he discovered the joy of words while reading Paradise Lost. In this essay, Orwell considers his motivations for writing. In general, he believes writers are motivated by four reasons– sheer egoism, aesthetic enthusiasm, historical impulse, and political purpose. It is the age in which a writer lives that provides the reason. By 1936, Orwell was firmly grounded in political purpose: “Every line of serious work that I have written since 1936 has been written, directly or indirectly, against totalitarianism and for democratic socialism.” He explains this is not “wholly public-spirited,” but the drive by “some demon” and while he cannot be certain which of the motivations is actually stronger, it is only when his motivation is political that his books are alive and have meaning.

COMPASSION

“What I want in my life is compassion, a flow between myself and others based on a mutual giving from the heart.”
— Marshall B. Rosenberg

“The whole idea of compassion is based on a keen awareness of the interdependence of all these living beings, which are all part of one another, and all involved in one another.”
— Thomas Merton

“When we experience the pain of another person, we instinctively want to take away that pain. But by taking away the other person’s pain, we also take away his or her opportunity to grow. To be truly compassionate, we must be able to share another person’s suffering and pain — knowing there is nothing we can do to relieve it and that we are not responsible for it, and yet knowing and understanding what that pain feels like.”
— John Gray

Compassion is a quality of soul.

Self-Realization

“I had become a new person; and those who knew the old person laughed at me. The only man who behaved sensibly was my tailor: he took my measure anew every time he saw me, whilst all the rest went in with their old measurements and expected them to fit me.”

-George Bernard Shaw (1856-1950) Man and Superman, 1903

Every day we are growing and learning and changing. Physically, our bodies create new cells all the time, renewing each part of us. Mentally, we learn and understand more with every experience we encounter. Emotionally, we grow and mature through our relationships, which come and go and teach us, too. And since we are actively pursuing our spiritual growth, we can see the changes in ourselves spiritually – we are aware of the changes we create in our lives. So, we are new every day – and we can start fresh from right where we are. Since we know that about ourselves, we can also know that for others – we can let go of grievances and allow for the possibilities.

daily Angel Message sms

This Is a Good Time: Cat’s Angel Message for May 21, 2019

May’s Theme: This month brings changes into your life. While change sometimes feels scary, it is a necessary thing for our overall growth. Be willing to embrace it and allow it to happen naturally and get ready for better things!

This time, like all times, is a very good one, if we but know what to do with it. – Ralph Waldo Emerson

521:  We have all seen the New-Agey sentiment about expecting the best from others and from life. While this is true to some extent the truth is that sometimes the best doesn’t always happen. Today the Universe is reminding us that when we are faced with a negative turn of events or encounter that all is not lost. If you look closely you can always find at least “one good thing” or lesson that came of it. It could be an idea to try something new or to take a new approach. It could be a new solution to to an old problem or even the realization that it’s just time to move on to better things. Remember that there is always something that you can take away from any experience, good or bad, that will help you along your path of personal growth. Look for it because these things can be game changing.

Archangel Jophiel helps us to bounce back from negative situations by showing us all the good things in other areas of of our lives. Remember that goodness and beauty surround us all the time, so stay open to receiving these blessings. The Ascended Master Maitreya teaches us that laughter and joy creates the positive energy we need to propel us forward. It helps us to let go stress and worry, which allows the light of faith and hope to shine through. And the Egyptian goddess Hathor helps us to find the answer to the question “How shall I live my life?” She tells us that every moment gives us opportunities for growth. ” When you are filled with indecision you move away from yourself and your power as a creator. Indecision silences you ability to hear your own inner wisdom. If you need my help just ask and I will shower you with energy that will tip the scales in the direction of what you desire.”

Our Sacred Stones for today include the following: Chrysanthemum Stone can help to remove obstacles from our path. Since obstacles tend to pop up during periods of change, this stone promotes the harmony and the balance we need to help our forward progress.  Red Jasper which helps us see problems before the get out of hand while promoting new ideas and creative problem solving. It strengthens personal boundaries and keeps us grounded and Chrysoprase which helps to tune in to positive events and brings us hope.

Bright blessings for a magickal day!

I invite you to share my work as long as no changes are made and to check out my websites:

In Gallo-Roman religion, Epona was a protector of horses, ponies, donkeys, and mules. If you’re in the Northern Hemisphere this month, searching for the starlit band of the Milky Way during the evening hours, you won’t find it. Patheos-Pagan: The Spirits of Nature are Terrifying

I am an easily impressed person. A lot of things stir awe in me, and often a healthy amount of fear. Looking over the edge of a high cliff, standing in the vastness of the ocean, watching the waters rise dangerously in the creek near my home; these things make me afraid. So while I adore the spirits of the land and the waters, and I revel in their beauty, I acknowledge that sometimes they are absolutely terrifying.

HOW DO YOU PLAY YOUR ROLES?

“What concerns me is not the way things are, but rather the way people think things are.”
— Epicetus

When we are basically unconscious, we live according to social roles. We perform as sons and daughters, mothers and fathers, husbands and wives, employers and employees, as society expects us to.

As we grow in awareness, we gain the freedom to bring our own unique perspectives to these roles. We can express ourselves authentically and creatively, without letting our roles dictate how we should behave.

“Risk! Risk anything! Care no more for the opinion of others, for those voices. Do the hardest thing on earth for you. Act for yourself. Face the truth.”

Learning

“I am still learning.”

-Michelangelo (1475-1564)

Michelangelo was a master – no one would dispute that. And yet, he knew there was always room for growth. I think we go around a little too confident in our own skills, and then we get reminded that we still have much to learn. We drive around everywhere, especially here in Southern California, almost on auto-pilot, not really aware of what we’re doing… until one day we get a ticket, and our attention turns to the laws of the road while we’re sitting in traffic school. There are spiritual laws that we know about, too, but are we paying attention to those? We can always learn more.

Today’s Goddess: Nut

Nut is a daughter of Shu and Tefnut. Her brother and husband is Geb. She had four or, in some sources, five children: Osiris, Set, Isis, Nephthys, and in some sources Horus. She is considered one of the oldest deities among the Egyptian pantheon, with her origin being found on the creation story of Heliopolis. She was originally the goddess of the nighttime sky, but eventually became referred to as simply the sky goddess. Her headdress was the hieroglyphic of part of her name, a pot, which may also symbolize the uterus. Mostly depicted in nude human form, Nut was also sometimes depicted in the form of a cow whose great body formed the sky and heavens, a sycamore tree, or as a giant sow, suckling many piglets (representing the stars)

For our ancient ancestors, many spirits and deities were associated with nature, wildlife, and plant growth. After all, if you had just spent the winter starving and freezing, when spring arrived it was certainly time to give thanks to whatever spirits watched over your tribe. The spring season, particularly around Beltane, is typically tied to a number of pre-Christian nature spirits. Many of these are similar in origin and characteristics, but tend to vary based on region and language. In English folklore, few characters stand out as much–or are as recognizable–as the Green Man

I’m pretty much always on the move and often feel overwhelmed by endless to-do lists, not to mention the constant interruption of notifications (thanks to the glorious invention of the smartphone).

I’m so busy, in fact, that I have to actively relax. As in, I have to actually schedule “time to relax” on my calendar.

MNN: What is plant blindness?
When we don’t notice the green all around us, it’s bad for the planet.

Imagine taking a walk in the woods and seeing a deer or a rabbit. You’ll no doubt remember the encounter — it might even be the highlight of your outdoor adventure.
But what about all the plants, trees and flowers you passed while hiking? There’s a good chance you paid little attention to the greenery on your path

EarthSky News: Young moon, Mars after sunset May 6-8

These next several evenings – May 6, 7 and 8, 2019 – find an unobstructed horizon in the direction of sunset, and watch for the young moon and the planet Mars to pop out in your western sky as evening twilight gives way to darkness. Be sure to look for the moon rather soon after sunset on May 6 because the lunar crescent will be quite thin and may set before nightfall (depending on where you live worldwide).

Patheos-Pagan: Awesome Moments are Magick

The definition of magick is a tricky one. It is slippery and misty. It is something that is elusive and undulating. Trying to define it is like trying to hold a fistful of sand. You almost get it, but it tends to slip right through your fingers. One of my favorite definitions of magick comes from Dion Fortune said: “magic is the art of changing consciousness at will”.

Inner Journey:

ARE YOU HAPPY?

“It is not easy to find happiness in ourselves, and it is not possible to find it elsewhere.”
— Agnes Repplier

Are you happy?

Don’t answer too quickly. Sit with this question for a long time and you’ll be introduced to brand new dimensions of who you are and of what matters in your life.

“Happiness comes only when we push our brains and hearts to the farthest reaches of which we are capable.”
— Leo C. Rosten

Today’s Recipe: Sweet Potato Chips

I am always looking for ways to preserve food and make it delicious. I was given a bag of huge sweet potatoes and decided to dry them. My first attempt was not that great to eat as a snack, so a friend suggested cinnamon and brown sugar – yum!

Learning

“What we learn to do, we learn by doing.”

-Aristotle (384-322 B.C.)

There’s a difference between theory and practice. We may know how to meditate – all the technical points and benefits of meditation that we hear so much about. But until we actually meditate ourselves, we haven’t really learned anything about it! On a recent episode of the TV comedy “Frasier,” Frasier and his brother were trying to learn how to ride a bike by reading a book. Now we know how silly that is! And yet, that’s the same kind of thing we often do in our spiritual practices. We read about prayer, and chanting, and mantras – but to really “get it” we’ve got to do it!

Thought For The Day: March 15, 2019 “Moving Forward”

Happy Friday ,

We end our week with a simple reminder to keep looking ahead. While it’s OK to remember the past we need to be mindful not to get caught up in it. When we dwell in our past we become stuck in it and unable to move forward. The key lies in learning the lessons and taking that knowledge to create something better. use the words Change- Adapt- and Grow as your mantra of forward progress.

Thought For The day: February 23, 2018 “Are We Superior?”

Happy Friday ,

So I admit to being a tree-hugger. Mother Earth is our home and as such must be cared for and taken care of. There is an important lesson in today quote. Animals only take what they need to survive, man takes until he destroys. The earth has been entrusted to the stewardship of man and we are failing. The point is that we have to take care of “our world” not just for us but for ALL her creatures. If we don’t mankind will have no home at all. The ideal world is a place where man and nature coexist without destroying each other. My “native-ness” may be showing here but living in harmony and walking in beauty would be a good start.
