Inner Journey: DO YOU LOVE YOURSELF?

“At the heart of personality is the need to feel a sense of being lovable without having to qualify for that acceptance.”
— Dr. Paul Tournier

How do you see yourself as unlovable?

Take a few minutes to write down why you perceive yourself to be unlovable. Look at the list and see if you can identify where those characterizations originated. Can you pinpoint old messages from parents, teachers, and friends that led you to negative conclusions about yourself? Are those messages valid today?

The beliefs we adopt as children usually don’t hold when we view them objectively as adults. Can you let them go? Can you begin to see yourself as a unique expression of life, a genuine gift to the world?

A Note from the Universe

S-h-h-h-h-h-h-h!

Don’t say a word and off with the lights!

Now is as good a time as any to watch It’s a Wonderful Life. No, no, not the one with Jimmy Stewart! The other one! You know… starring Cat. It’s the best. A total-underdog, goose-bump, come-from-behind kind of adventure. And what an “ending”!

Whooo-hoooo!

I especially love the part where you, in spite of all evidence to the contrary, finally declare “enough is enough” (actually, far more colorful language is used because we don’t have a rating system here) and you begin visualizing, putting up dream photos on the computer, refrigerator, and mirrors, and start performing simple acts of faith, as if your dreams had already come true, every single bloomin’ day.

The transformation that follows really pushes the envelope on believability. Except, of course, it’s a true story!

It’s also a great psyche-up “watch” for new souls. You know, before their first big plunge.

Definitely two thumbs-up.

“Being deeply loved by someone gives you strength while loving someone deeply gives you courage.”
— Lao Tzu

There are two basic motivating forces: fear and love. When we are afraid, we pull back from life. When we are in love, we open to all that life has to offer with passion, excitement, and acceptance.

We need to learn to love ourselves first, in all our glory and our imperfections. If we cannot love ourselves, we cannot fully open to our ability to love others or our potential to create. Evolution and all hopes for a better world rest in the fearlessness and open-hearted vision of people who embrace life.

The Herbal Muse Press: Pine Needle Medicine

Herbal Spotlight: Pine Needles
(Pinus spp.)
Family: Pinaceae

Many herbalists focus on the use of white pine (Pinus strobus), which is abundant throughout the eastern United States and is easily identified by its unique five-needle clusters. But all pines can be used interchangeably in herbalism, so don’t hesitate to work with the species of Pinus found in your bioregion!

Not only is pine a quintessential winter fragrance, but it is also a beneficial herbal ally. Pine needles and bark are harvested and used fresh or dried for use in teas, tinctures, or infused oils. Pine’s warming energetics, its antimicrobial and expectorant actions, and vitamin C content make it a natural ally for respiratory support during cold and flu season.

Drinking a decoction of the bark and needles can help move respiratory congestion and ease a wet cough, and the decoction can also be used as a pleasant facial steam for the same purposes.

Driven by your passions so that you might rise above your humble, naked beginnings and ultimately see through the illusions that have trapped you. To find yourself once again high upon the throne of thy Kingdom come, from whence it all began.

Walking on sunshine,

Morning
“How beautiful, how buoyant, and glad is morning!”

-L.E. Landon, 1933

Good morning! Reading positive messages is a great way to start the day, getting centered, remembering what is important. The break of day represents a kind of optimism. There is a newness, a freshness, as if time starts all over again. No matter what has happened the day before, we know the sun will come up and shine its light on us today

Sometimes too much of a good thing is too much, and you want to start tomorrow feeling good

“Everything in life can be nourishing. Everything can bless us, but we’ve got to be there for the blessing to occur. Being present with quality is a decision we are invited to make each day.”
— MacRina Wiederkehr

Spirit is not only found in holy places, prayer and meditation, yoga and retreats. It is everywhere — in your relationships, your work, your daily chores, in nature … if you are willing to connect deeply with your environment.

Open to connect with something and you open to its essence, its purpose and meaning. There are other dimensions of reality below what we normally see and hear. Open to the mystery.

“We live in a world of theophanies. Holiness comes wrapped in the ordinary. There are burning bushes all around you. Every tree is full of angels. Hidden beauty is waiting in every crumb. Life wants to lead you from crumbs to angels, but this can happen only if you are willing to unwrap the ordinary by staying with it long enough to harvest its treasure.”

A friend told me she heard a deep, loud voice in her right ear one morning. She said that the advice she received was specific, and the tone was too sharp not to listen. It said, “Leave him, get out.”

On these December evenings, turn toward the northern sky and see its famous constellation Cassiopeia the Queen. In early December, Cassiopeia swings directly over Polaris, the North Star, at roughly 8 p.m. local clock time. Cassiopeia – sometimes called The Lady of the Chair – is famous for having the shape of a telltale W or M. Inner Journey: Befriend yourself

“Self-contempt never inspires lasting change.”
— Jane R. Hirschmann & Carol H. Munter

The journey to know ourselves ideally brings us to self-understanding and acceptance. It is NOT a quest for self-improvement.

When we open to love and accept ourselves, no matter what, we allow our innate love, power and wisdom to emerge naturally.

A Note from the Universe

Would it be enough to know, (and you can know this), that long ago, when the two of us carefully mapped out your pending adventure into the jungles of time and space: the hills and valleys you would traverse; the setbacks and advances you would encounter; the good, the bad, and the ugly, and all of the lives you would touch; when our planning was done and the “big picture” revealed… You burst into tears of joy, overwhelmed with its perfection and who you’d become.

Yeah, like a baby –

“Personality can never develop unless the individual chooses his own way, consciously and with moral deliberation.”

-Carl G. Jung (1875-1961)

There comes a time when we must grow up. Age dictates a lot of what goes on with us physically. Society says when we are “legally” adults. But our personalities can emerge at any time. As we learn, we are gathering tools which will hopefully bring us to spiritual maturity, where we understand who we are, and what we have to share with the world.

Daily Good: To Be a Loved Horse: Dufresne’s Story

Empathy is a special way of coming to know another and ourself, a kind of attuning and understanding. When empathy is extended, it satisfies our needs and wish for intimacy, it rescues us from our feelings of aloneness.

Carl Rogers –

To Be a Loved Horse: Dufresne’s Story

“A friend of mine was looking to buy a horse that could be a backyard buddy. She didn’t want to spend a lot of money, so I suggested we go to the local monthly horse auction to see if we might rescue one of the horses from a potential death sentence.For those of you who are unfamiliar with horse auctions, many times the meat buyers end up taking the unwanted animals at low prices. There are always horses there who have plenty of life left and just need someone to show up and recognize their value, see their heart, and offer them a space where they can just be a loved horse.” What happened next is an unexpected and electrifying story of hope and healing. { read more }

Inner Journey: CREATE SPACE

“All this talk and turmoil and noise and movement and desire is outside of the veil; within the veil is silence and calm and rest.”
— Bayazid al-Bistami

We need to create space if we desire to change and grow. Only in emptiness can meaning, intuitive guidance and truth arise.

Give yourself space by spending time in nature, taking an hour or day off, enjoying quiet moments for reflection. Take time to smell the roses. Breathe in the wonder of life and its bounty. Open so your deeper awareness and imagination can percolate through mundane thoughts and activities. Let go of both resistance and force to allow yourself to connect more deeply to life.

“I do only want to advise you to keep growing quietly and seriously throughout your whole development; you cannot disturb it more rudely than by looking outward and expecting from outside replies to questions that only your inmost feeling in your most hushed hour can perhaps answer.”
— Rainer Maria Rilke

“I am glad that so much movement happens in this stillness.”

Ive held close as gently as possible reliable truisms: Change is the only constant. Life tends toward life. I affirm: I’m not alone. In the end, death comes to us all I have only to decide how to live life now. Showing up for myself, for others, and for what I care about with all my human imperfectness makes me more alive.
