Inner Journey: DISCOVER THE TREASURES INSIDE

“Happiness cannot be traveled to, owned, earned, worn or consumed. Happiness is the spiritual experience of living every minute with love, grace, and gratitude.”
— Denis Waitley

Peace, joy, health and well-being can only be found inside us. They exist within us now, waiting to be discovered. Yet we tend to look to the outside world to satisfy our needs and longings.

Our outer life reflects back to us the way we think, feel and behave. The outer world is all effects. Go to the source inside for all of life’s treasures.

How are you searching for peace and contentment outside of yourself?

“The great Western disease is, ‘I’ll be happy when… When I get the money. When I get a BMW. When I get this job.’ Well, the reality is, you never get to when. The only way to find happiness is to understand that happiness is not out there. It’s in here. And happiness is not next week. It’s now.”

Longevity
“If there is one single secret to long life, that secret is moderation.”

-George Gallup (1901-1984)

It’s amazing how far good common sense gets us. Moderation is that middle path. It’s balance. We have a lot to balance in this life – our diets, our relationships, our workload, our checkbooks. When things are in balance then we are less stressed, we’re better able to cope with the little stuff that comes up. Moderation may take some maintenance, but maintenance is a lot easier to handle than repair.

June’s Full “Strawberry” Moon

JunesStrawberryMoon_zpsf1387934
June Full “Strawberry” Moon

June 5, 2020 Full Moon at  12:12 pm PST/ 1:12 pm MST/ 3:12 pm EST
The Strawberry Moon

The Old Farmers Almanac calls this moon The Full Strawberry Moon. The name comes from the Algonquin tribes of the Eastern US and honors the ripening of the wild strawberries or “heart berries”. They are considered one of the “fruits of love”. There is a Cherokee tale that goes like this;

Long ago, the Great Spirit made First Woman and First Man. They soon became husband and wife and everything was good. Then one day something bad happened and they began to argue, angry words were spoken and feelings were hurt. First Woman grabbed up some of her belongings and said that she was leaving and would find somewhere else to live. First Man was angry too and at first, did not follow. After a while, he regretted his harsh words and went after her to apologize. But she was so far ahead that he could not catch her.

He called upon the Great Spirit for help. “Answer me this” replied the Great Spirit “Is your soul one with hers?” “Yes!” First Man answered, “it has been since you first breathed life into us!” Seeing the man’s grief the Great Spirit took pity upon him and did his best to slow First Woman down. He created bushes full of tempting berries that grew at her feet as she walked. Gooseberries, Service Berries, Huckleberries, and Blackberries, but the woman kept walking and paid no attention. The Great Spirit was suddenly struck with an idea. He went into his garden and grabbed up some strawberry plants and threw them to the earth. The little plants landed at First Woman’s feet and began to bloom and then came the berries! The bright red berries drew her attention and she stopped to taste one and one led to another. As she ate the berries her anger was forgotten and suddenly she longed for her husband. Rummaging through her things she found a basket and filled it with berries.

First Man was hurrying along the path when suddenly he saw First Woman coming toward him and smiling. he never got to apologize, his wife popped a strawberry in his mouth and taking his hand…. led him home.

It is also a good time to do any workings that maintain or enhance what you already have (ie. jobs, relationships, home. garden). Do a little for yourself as well by wearing the warm colors of yellow, orange and gold to brighten your outlook or wear, meditate on or work with stones like topaz (recharges and aligns meridians) and agate (grounding on all levels, stabilizing the aura)

Full Moon Blessings to All!

QUESTIONS THAT AREN’T HELPFUL

“We accept many notions because they seem to be the logical answers to our questions. But have we asked the right questions?”
— Harold L. Klawans

Sometimes we ask questions for which we really don’t want the answer! Nonetheless, when we ask a question, our subconscious minds will get to work to answer us.

Here are some examples of questions we want to avoid:
• What’s wrong with me?
• How long could this take?
• What could go wrong?
• How much trouble could it be?
• How hard could it be?

Asking questions can be empowering – as long as they’re smart questions!

Everyone is sipping hot chocolate, and reminiscing about the fabulous circumstances that have brought you together, brimming with even more excitement for times to come. And then you chime in, “If only we knew how inevitable this all was, we never would have worried so much. If only we had the slightest inkling that our challenges, lacks, and issues would sooner make possible the whirlwind of events that swiftly followed… we’d have been as proud then, as we are now.”

And then everyone nods and laughs thoughtfully, and starts taking selfies.

Sharing

“Sharing what you have is more important than what you have.”

-Albert M. Wells, Jr.

Sharing is not limited to material things. We can share our memories, experiences, and knowledge for example. The beauty in this is that we aren’t giving those things away – we couldn’t if we tried! But they are so valuable, and they become even more valuable when we share them with other people. The most simple advice can be such a treasure. The fact that we are open and willing to share what we have learned can make this journey more beneficial for all of us.

How Raccoon Got the Circles Around His Eyes and Tail (A Micmac Legend)

daily spell

How Raccoon Got the Circles Around His Eyes and Tail

A Micmac Legend

Long ago, there was a village where two unhappy blind men lived. They were unhappy because they were unable to do things for themselves. So they decided that they would sit on a log in the woods forever.

One day the mighty warrior Kluskap, who was returning from a hunt, noticed the two men sitting on the log. He approached them and asked “What’s wrong? Why are you sitting here?”

One of the men said “We are not wanted. We can’t take care of ourselves or anyone else, so we will just stay here in the woods until we die.”

Kluskap could not let the men just sit there, so he built them a wigwam. He also gave them a rope.

“What is this for?” the men asked.

“You must take the rope down to the river. There you will tie one end of the rope to a tree near the water and the other end of the rope to your pail. Now you can get water for yourselves, for when you are thirsty you can toss the pail out into the river and when you pull it back it will have water in it.” Kluskap explained.”

Little did they know that someone was watching them. Raccoon had been secretly watching the two men, trying to find out why they had been sitting on the log. Raccoon chuckled to himself and said, ” I will have some fun with these two!” So he sat and waited.

When the first man went to the river for water, Raccoon went with him. He took the pail and threw it into the water. When he had done this, =accoon quietly moved the pail into the sand.

When the man pulled the pail in there was no water in it, only sand. He went back to his friend and said “Our river has gone dry! There is no water, just sand!”

His friend laughed in disbelief. ” You’re just lazy, you probably didn’t even go for water.”

The first man became angry. “You don’t believe me, but I am telling the truth!”

The second man went down to the river and he too was followed by Raccoon who made sure that it filled with water. The man returned to the wigwam with his pail of water.

“See, I have brought water! I knew you were just lazy!” he said angrily. The two men began to fight.

Raccoon, who had been watching the mischief he had caused, suddenly noticed that the first man had started supper. Raccoon wandered over and saw four pieces of meat in the cooking pot. He helped himself to two pieces of the meat and went and hid with his treasure.

When the fighting had ended the first man went to the pot and took two pieces of meat for himself. When the second man went to his supper there was nothing left. This made him angry.

“You are not only too lazy to get water but now you steal my supper! There is nothing here!” he cried.

“What foolishness is this?” said the first man. I cooked four pieces of  meat and took two, there should still be two left in the pot!”

Raccoon sat back laughing as the men began to fight once more.

Just then Kluskap appeared. Rushing over he separated the two men and asked: “Why are you fighting?”

“Because of him.” said the second man pointing at the first. “He is too lazy to get water and tried to say that the river was dry! I went down to the river and there is plenty of water, and now he has taken my supper and I have nothing to eat!”

That’s when Kluskap heard laughter. He turned and saw Raccoon rolling on the ground and laughing. Suddenly, he knew what had happened.

He quickly captured Raccoon and carried him to the campfire. He took a coal from the fire and marked a black circle around each of Raccoon’s eyes.

“This is for the two pieces of meat that you stole from two blind old men. These marks will always show you to be a thief and you will be known as a thief wherever you go,” said Kluskap.

Then Kluskap used the coal to draw four rings around Raccoon’s tail. “And this is for the times you made these men fight. You will always remember this, because these marks I have given you will stay with you forever.”

This is why Raccoon looks like a bandit and still bears the marks of Kluskap.

Why the Trees Lose Their Leaves

A Tale from the Cherokee Nation as told by Cat

In the beginning, and just as it is today, all creatures including the trees spoke to one another. They shared many things amongst themselves and with their neighbors, just as we two-leggeds do. But during the winter all the birds would fly south. It was warm there, and where the birds would stay until spring when they would return home with their families.

That year as winter approached, Sparrow was hurt. He wasn’t well and he knew that he was not strong enough to make the yearly journey with his family to the south. So Sparrow told them to go to the warm place without him. At first, they refused to leave him but Sparrow insisted and finally they left.

Because of his injuries, Sparrow knew that he would not survive the winter without shelter. So he decided that he would ask the trees to help him. He went first to Oak and said ” Friend Oak, as you can see I am hurt and cannot fly well. Winter is almost here and without shelter, I will die. Will you help me by sheltering me within your beautiful leaves so that I can heal and greet my family when they return in the spring?”

But Oak was an old tree who had little patience for guests particularly during the winter when he liked to sleep.

“Go away Sparrow, I will not spend the winter listening to your chattering. Find somewhere else to make your shelter!”

Sparrow was greatly saddened by Oak’s words, they hurt deep in his tiny spirit.

He then went to see Maple. ” Friend Maple, as you can see I am hurt and cannot fly well. Winter is almost here and without shelter, I will die. Will you help me by sheltering me within your thick, beautiful leaves so that I can heal and greet my family when they return in the spring?” asked Sparrow. But Maple didn’t want a guest for the winter either and said: ” No Sparrow you cannot spend the winter with me…go now and ask another!”

Again, Sparrow’s tiny spirit deeply hurt and turned away to look elsewhere for shelter.

And so it went, each of the trees from whom Sparrow asked for help turned him away. Until Pine was the only tree left. With a heavy heart and little hope, Sparrow went to Pine.

“Friend Pine, as you can see I am hurt and cannot fly well. winter is almost here and without shelter, I will die. Will you help me by sheltering me within your leaves during the winter……?”

Pine was silent for a moment. He was thinking to himself “What is there that I can do? I am the least of all the trees”. But Pines =pirit heard the tiny birds plea and he said: “Friend Sparrow, my leaves are not much, in fact, they are like needles and my branches are different than the other trees…..but you are welcome to share what I have.”

Thank you Pine cried Sparrow and his heart was filled with renewed hope. They spent the long winter together and when spring returned it brought with it Sparrows family. Sparrow flew out to greet them and there was much rejoicing. “Thank you Pine!” cried the happy sparrow family.

Now the Creator had been silently watching all this time. He had heard everything that had transpired between the Trees and Sparrow and he was angry. He called a council meeting of the trees and said ” You trees have been given so much. Yet you would not share even the smallest bit of what you had with Sparrow in his time of need. This hurt my spirit just as it hurt Sparrows! Because of this and from this day forward when winter comes to the land your leaves, your crowning glory will wither, die and blow away.”

Then the Creator spoke to Pine. “Pine you have touched my spirit and given me a great gift through your gift to Sparrow! You had the least to offer yet you gave freely to one in need. When winter comes you alone will keep your leaves and they shall stay green in all seasons. This is my gift to you!”

That is why, to this day, when winter comes Pine stays green while the other trees are bare.

Full Strawberry Moon: June 9, 2017

The Strawberry Moon

The Old Farmers Almanac calls this moon The Full Strawberry Moon. The name comes from the Algonquin tribes of the Eastern US and honors the ripening of the wild strawberries or “heart berries”. They are considered one of the “fruits of love”. There is a Cherokee tale that goes like this;

First Man was angry too and at first did not follow. After a while he regretted his harsh words and went after her to apologize. But she was so far ahead that he could not catch her.

He called upon the Great Spirit for help. “Answer me this” replied the Great Spirit “Is your soul one with hers?” “Yes!” First Man answered, “it has been sine you first breathed life into us!” Seeing the man’s grief the Great Spirit took pity upon him and did his best to slow First Woman down. He created bushes full of tempting berries that grew at her feet as she walked. Gooseberries, Service Berries, Huckleberries and Blackberries, but the woman kept walking and paid no attention.

This  full moon will be sitting in Sagittarius and positive energy abounds. If you need a miracle or help in a legal matter then this is a great time to ask for assistance. Money magick, wisdom and accessing ancient knowledge is also part of this moon’s energy. It’s also  a good time for workings that maintain or enhance what you already have. (jobs, relationships, home garden) Do a little for yourself as well by wearing warm colors like yellow, orange or gold to brighten your outlook. You can also wear, meditate or work with stones like Topaz which will recharge and align the meridians and Agates that helps  to ground as it stabilizes the aura. However you celebrate the full moon remember to let its energy rejuvenate your heart and spirit.

Full Moon Blessings to All!
