Many of us have been taught to do our duty. What reaction does this bring up for you?

For me, ‘doing my duty’ often means doing something I really don’t want to do. My heart’s not in it. When this is the case, tasks may get done but there’s no gift to the world. We do not truly serve if we give to others with resentment.

Perhaps we need to give ourselves permission to say no and look after our own needs. When our own needs are met, we are much more likely to want to give from a full heart.

It’s not selfish to look after ourselves — it’s essential!

As such this is a time of deep inner adjustment as what has surfaced over the past few weeks begins to clear. Taking time out to recharge and rebalance is vital.

However, with the New Moon this weekend breakthroughs are possible as you have the opportunity now to step forward and onto a new path. Push through any feelings of fear and uncertainty and recognise that this is a time of welcome change.

How does anger typically surface in your life?

We usually get angry at someone, don’t we? We judge that someone has done something wrong and we want them to be punished.

In truth, the actions of others are never to blame. It’s our thinking – our blaming and judgment – that causes the anger. And we blame and judge because we have a need that has not been met.

In his book ‘Nonviolent Communication,’ Marshall B. Rosenberg advises that rather than blame others, we are better served by directing our energy towards meeting our own needs.

He offers a simple tool for change. Instead of saying, ‘I am angry because they …’ we can say, ‘I am angry because I am needing ….’
