ThoughtCo: Profile of Nemesis

Nemesis is a Greek goddess of revenge and retribution. In particular, she is invoked against those whose hubris and arrogance got the better of them, and serves as a force of divine reckoning. Originally, she was a deity who simply doled out what people had coming to them, whether good or bad.

Daily Good: Between Worlds

What is it like to be a living member of a dying community? Climate change is making this an increasingly common reality. Isle de Jean Charles, a slip of land off the coast of Louisiana is one such place. This island is home to a hundred or so people, members, mostly, of a Native American tribe called the Biloxi-Chitimacha-Choctaw–the BCC for short. For eight generations, the people of Isle de Jean Charles thrived, eating the bounty of the land and the sea: shrimp, crawfish, fish, and oysters, as well as plants they wild-harvested and grew in gardens. The tribe was so self-sufficient that when the oil and gas companies began prospecting nearby, they were surprised to discover people. But global warming is causing their land to disappear from under their feet. Anya Groner visited this magical place and shares her journey into the mystery of trying to stay grounded as a people while facing the inevitable loss of a homeland. { read more }

MNN: When honeybees get stuck in water, they create their own waves and ‘surf’ to safety

Bees need water just like the rest of us. A honeybee might fly several miles to find a good water source, both for drinking and to help regulate the temperature of her hive. Sometimes, though, a thirsty honeybee gets more than she bargained for, and instead of water ending up in the bee, the bee ends up in the water.

Inner Journey:

LOVE YOUR SHADOWS

Each of us has characteristics we define as ‘good’ and those we define as ‘bad.’ The parts of ourselves that we continually reject want to be acknowledged and loved. Until we honour these aspects, they will continue to assert themselves. They will do whatever they can to get our attention.

What aspects of yourself do you reject?

Take a few moments to open to the parts of yourself that you do not love. See each one honestly for what it is. Explore the wounds and the motives that gave rise to its condition. Love a wounded part of yourself and it will heal.

“Strangely enough we strengthen love in ourselves when we raise into consciousness the shadow side of our lives. Conversely, when we keep negative feelings out of sight, they smother the love that seems to lie deeper and closer to the real self. This is probably why there is so much pain in not loving. The life that is not able to express the love which is so integral to it grows deformed.”

Past

“Your whole past was but a birth and a becoming.”

-Antoine de Saint-Exupery (1900-1944)

We know that the nature of life is to grow. And so here we are. And we couldn’t have gotten here without everything that has happened in the past. It is the same way for society as it is for individuals. Whatever has happened throughout history has had an impact on how we have grown and changed as a nation, and as a planet. We’re all connected. And the more that we grow as individuals, the greater the impact will be on our communities and our countries.

Thought For The Day: April 18, 2019 “In the Shadows”

Happy Thursday,

We all have our personal shadows, things we fight against  and do our damnedest to pull ourselves out of. These periods of shadow can be depressing and stressful and quite often bring us to our knees hard. However, there are lessons in the shadows, they teach us to keep trying, they teach us about our own inner strength and they teach us to look for the light!

Thought For The Day: April 10, 2019 ” Banishing the Shadows”

Happy Wednesday,

We all have the power to create amazing personal change in our lives. The sad truth is that too often we spend our time and energy looking back. We focus on the bad things that have happened or old hurts and disappointments. However, if we face forward into the light, the sun, we can find a new beginning filled with hope and we can recognize the blessings that fill our lives.

MBG: It’s Officially Spring & You Can Celebrate With These 5 Self-Care Rituals

Happy New Year—again! On March 20, 2019, at precisely 5:58 p.m. EST, the Sun will cross directly over the Earth’s equator. This moment is known as the vernal equinox (from the Latin vernare, “to bloom”) in the northern hemisphere. It also marks the beginning of a new astrological year, as we are entering the first sign of the zodiac, Aries. For centuries, we actually celebrated the New Year at this pivotal moment at the end of March/beginning of April.

Daily Good: Why Shadows Were Invented

In ‘From These Wilds Beyond Our Fences,’ Bayo Akomolafe points out that when Seventeenth-century physicist Francesco Grimaldi directed a focused ray of sunlight in a dark room, managing the ray so that it struck a thin rod and produced a shadow on a screen, he proved that light behaves in unexpected ways. In fact, light is only one side of a whole, like yin and yang. Thus “darkness is not the absence of light — it is the very dance of light…Light and dark are not opposites or estranged cosmic forces that one side must defeatfor there are no “sides.””

MNN: First-ever reef manta ray spotted in the eastern Pacific

Sometimes, you just need a change of scenery. A pregnant reef manta ray (Mobula alfredi) has been spotted swimming far offshore in the Eastern Pacific Ocean, near Cocos Island, which is a long way from the creature’s traditional home.
Reef manta rays — as their name implies — generally stick to coastal regions, and they prefer the tropical and subtropical waters found in the Indian and Pacific oceans.

EarthSky News: See the zodiacal light

The weeks around the spring equinox are best for viewing the zodiacal light in the evening. Now that the moon has left the early evening sky, the next several weeks present an excellent time for those in the Northern Hemisphere to view this mysterious light, which looks like a hazy pyramid extending up from the western horizon, when all traces of twilight have let the evening sky. You’ll want a rural location, as full darkness falls. About 80 to 120 minutes after sunset should be about right

Patheos-Pagan: Repaganizing Ancient Rituals

One of the problems I ran into in my earliest exploration of Paganism was encountering things that simply weren’t Pagan. Things like archangels, the Tree of Life, and the Key of Solomon. I knew these weren’t Celtic or Greek or Norse – they’re Jewish and Christian

Inner Journey:

WHAT’S YOUR BEST ROUTINE?

“For all my good intentions, there are days when things go wrong or I fall into old habits. When things are not going well, when I’m grumpy or mad, I’ll realize that I’ve not been paying attention to my soul and I’ve not been following my best routine.”
— Robert Fulghum

How do you need to bring more balance to your life?

Robert Fulghum has shared, “The older I get, the more I realize the importance of exercising the various dimensions of my body, soul, mind and heart. Taken together, these aspects give me a sense of wholeness. I want to be a whole human being rather than one who limps on one leg because I don’t know how to use all of my parts. Intellectual, emotional, and physical activity are not separate entities. Rather, they are dimensions of the same human being.”

“There is an Indian Belief that everyone is in a house of four rooms: A physical, a mental, an emotional and a spiritual. Most of us tend to live in one room most of the time, but unless we go into every room everyday, even if only to keep it aired, we are not complete.”
— Rumer Godden

A Note from the Universe

You can choose to go, do, be, and have, and in the end you’ll exclaim, shocked and bewildered, that because of all the synchronicities of your life, all the “clicks” and “coincidences,” and the many happy “accidents,” your bounty and good fortune must have been your destiny.
Or, you might choose to wait for a miracle, a savior, or divine intervention, and in the end you’ll exclaim, shocked and bewildered, that because of all the synchronicities of your life, all the missed chances and disappointments, and the many unhappy accidents, your lack and misfortune must have been your destiny.
Do you see what the difference is?
It ain’t me,

Compassion
“Spiritual energy brings compassion into the real world. With compassion, we see benevolently our own human condition and the condition of our fellow beings. We drop prejudice. We withhold judgment.”

-Christina Baldwin (1990)

As the world grows spiritually, we will grow compassionately. The Bible tells the story of the Good Samaritan. We know this is an example for us to live by. If we would all practice compassion, follow our hearts to help others in need, then the real world would be a lot a lot less scary place to live.

Ancient Origins: The Rape of a Goddess: How Demeter Beat the All-Powerful Zeus

Who were Demeter and Persephone? And why did their myth resonate so strongly with women of ancient Greece? The story of Demeter, goddess of the harvest, and her daughter Persephone, queen of the underworld, has inspired many. And while there are twenty-two variations of the myth, it is the Homeric Hymn to Demeter (hereafter called the Hymn), composed between 650-550 BC, that is believed to be one of the oldest…

Thought For The Day: Sept. 19, 2017 “Live For Yourself”

Happy Tuesday!

The path we choose to navigate through life is ours. We cannot live for someone else or live the life that someone else has chosen for us, it diminishes us as  people and  individuals. By walking our own path we are free to invite others to walk with us as well as choosing to walk with them if it suits our needs. There is no “one size fits all” when it comes to life. It’s okay to live your life on your terms, to do things that make you stronger as a person, do things that make you happy and that help you continue your own personal evolution. Do not allow others to hold you back or hold you down. It’s you choice to either walk in the shadow of another or to step into the light and live for yourself.
