QUESTION YOUR INTENTION

“Men are more accountable for their motives, than for anything else ….”
— Archibald Alexander
Why are you doing what you are doing?
Throughout the day, continually ask yourself about your underlying motivation. Are you doing what you are doing for selfish, manipulative or fearful reasons, or in honest service? Maybe you will see that much of your activity lacks purpose. This is a great way to become more conscious.
Your intention and motives are fundamental to the results you receive. Set high intentions and your life will blossom.

Vegetarianism

“It is nearly 50 years since I was assured by a conclave of doctors that if I did not eat meat, I should die of starvation.”

-George Bernard Shaw (1856-1950)

This discussion came about by the suggestion of one of our subscribers, and I think there is a lot to say about it. Now before all our meat-eating readers take offense, rest assured that I am not trying to convert anyone! I believe that diet is a choice. I have made the choice to be vegan – that’s the vegetarian without eggs or dairy. It can be challenging at times, particularly when dining at restaurants that do not provide such an enlightened menu – but I have found the benefits, both in terms of health and spiritual growth, to far outweigh the inconveniences.

EarthSky News: Annular solar eclipse on December 26

2019’s only annular eclipse – the third and final solar eclipse of this year – falls on December 26. It’s visible along a narrow path in the world’s Eastern Hemisphere. Like a total solar eclipse, an annular solar eclipse happens when the new moon moves directly in front of the sun. During a total solar eclipse, the new moon completely covers over the solar disk. During an annular eclipse, the lunar disk is too small to totally cover over the sun, so an annulus – or thin ring of the sun’s surface – surrounds the new moon silhouette.

IT’S A MATTER OF BALANCE.

“My soul is the bridge between spirit and body and, as such, is a uniter of opposites. …Without soul at center, I would either transcend into spirit or become mired in matter.”
— Marion Woodman
Ram Dass talks of how his first spiritual goal was to be rid of his physical existence. He came to understand, though, that our spirituality lies in bringing higher consciousness to our world of form. When we can do so, we can delight in all aspects of creation.
Soul exists in the balance of spirit and matter. For a soulful life, we pay attention to both, seeing spiritual qualities in material forms. As our awareness grows, we begin to use consciousness to influence and create form. It’s through form that our spirit expresses.
“Walk in balance with one foot in your spiritual understanding and one foot in your physical world of accomplishment.”

A Note from the Universe

If it’s not yet obvious to you, the real reason for this, and all seasons, is you. A more perfect child of the Universe has never lived. Until now, only celebrations cloaked in myth and mystery could hint at your divine heritage and sacred destiny. You are life’s prayer of becoming and its answer. The first light at the dawn of eternity, drawn from the ether, so that I might know my own depth, discover new heights, and revel in seas of blessed emotion.

A pioneer into illusion, an adventurer into the unknown, and a lifter of veils. Courageous, heroic, and exalted by legions in the unseen.

To give beyond reason, to care beyond hope, to love without limit; to reach, stretch, and dream, in spite of your fears. These are the hallmarks of divinity – traits of the immortal – your badges of honor. May you wear them with a pride as great as what we feel for you.

Your light has illuminated darkened paths, your gaze has lifted broken spirits, and already your life has changed the course of history.

This is the time of year we celebrate you.

Bowing before Greatness,

The Universe

Inner Journey:

FREE TO CHOOSE

“Most people do not really want freedom, because freedom involves responsibility, and most people are frightened of responsibility.”
— Sigmund Freud
In his book Nobody’s Victim, Christopher J. McCullough explains, “In order to live your freedom, you must first accept reality. ‘These are the choices, and given those choices, which do I choose?’ Whether the option you select is pleasant or painful does not alter the fact that, given reality, this is your preference.
“To live your freedom, it is helpful to stop and ask yourself, ‘Why am I doing this?’ and then notice whether, given the options, you are choosing what you really want, or whether you want to choose something else…. Sometimes the exercise of freedom involves naming your poison — all choices may lead to outcomes that are in some way painful. But the real pain is that of feeling powerless — denying your freedom.”
“Freedom is man’s capacity to take a hand in his own development. It is our capacity to mold ourselves.”– Dr. Rollo May

Scripture

“There is something nearer to us than Scriptures, to wit, the Word in the heart from which all Scriptures come.”

-William Penn (1644-1718)

All scriptures, no matter which religions use them, originated somewhere, and were written by someone, or by many people who were compelled to put those exact words down on paper. The remarkable thing is that they have stood the test of time. Because Truth is Truth, it doesn’t change. And what resonated in the heart way back when, still resonates in our hearts when we read the words today.

Belief

“Some things have to be believed to be seen.”

-Ralph Hodgson (1871 – 1962)

Skeptics say: “I’ll believe it when I see it.” But belief often works the other way around – we see it when we believe it! What is the criteria for manifesting something? It starts with believing, knowing, asserting that which we want to be true. Ah, and then it happens – and we see that we were right all along! There is power in belief.

Patheos Pagan: Honoring the Land and History by Ritualizing Thanksgiving: a Possible Methodology

Thanksgiving is a holiday fraught with complications.
When I was a kid, I was indoctrinated with happy Pilgrims and Indians sharing corn and pie, just like most of the rest of the USA. Mostly I dreaded having to dress up, looked forward to seeing my cousins when they came, and generally liked parades and food.

Thanksgiving is full of traditions. With a few exceptions, the food on my Thanksgiving table looks almost exactly like the food that was on my parent’s Thanksgiving table year after year. It’s tradition. When my son was 3 years old, he made paper pilgrims and Native Americans in the shape of paper drumsticks at school. I proudly taped them onto the china cabinet. The next year, he found them and taped them back up. Voila — tradition.

Inner Journey:

VALUING THE MOMENT

“… the only time you ever have in which to learn anything or see anything or feel anything, or express any feeling or emotion, or respond to an event, or grow, or heal, is this moment, because this is the only moment any of us ever gets. You’re only here now; you’re only alive in this moment.”
— Jon Kabat-Zinn

Many people regularly squander their time. They live under the assumption that they’ll live forever. As a result, they don’t value the present as a precious opportunity that will never come again.

Others continually race against time, trying to cram too many activities into each hour, and suffering stress in the process.

In our view, we are more effective and most happy when we balance being and doing. We continually ask ourselves what’s most important to get done. And we’re learning to BE — fully present — when we do. We also regularly give ourselves permission to relax.

Make today really matter. It’s all you’ll ever have.

“Very few of us know how much we can put into life if we use it properly, wisely, and economically. Let us economize our time — lifetimes ebb away before we wake up, and that is why we do not realize the value of the immortal time God has given us.”
— Paramahansa Yogananda

Past

“What’s past is prologue.”

-Shakespeare (1574 – 1616) Antonio in The Tempest

I always love to find quotes by Shakespeare, because he says things so poetically. Here are four simple words, which strung together say so much! Prologue is background, it’s the leading-up to what is happening NOW. While it is important to have that background, we need to understand that each act, each new scene of our lives, begins in this moment. The show goes on!

Coffey Talk: Abracadabra!

Abracadabra is an ancient word used by magicians when they are ready to make something magical happen. It’s often accompanied by a swirl of the magic wand and followed by the wave of a scarf to reveal the magic trick. The origin of this word “abracadabra” is thought to be from the Aramaic language. Abra means “to create” and “cadabra” means “as I say.” So the parts put together translates to “I create as I say.”
Back in the Roman times doctors treated malaria sufferers with an amulet inscribed with the word “abracadabra” written in the form of a triangle. This was said to diminish the hold that the disease had over the patient. Over the years this magical word has had various uses, as it can be found on amulets in various cultures. Today the word is commonly used as an incantation by stage magicians.
In the “Harry Potter” series the expression “Avada Kedavra” is used as a spell known as the “Killing Curse.” Author J.K. Rowling said of the Curse’s etymology: “It is an ancient spell in Aramaic, and it is the original abracadabra, which means “let the thing be destroyed.” Originally, it was used to cure illness…”
Magic is all around us, whether we use the words or not. But sometimes using these “magic words” helps to remind us of the power we have, and how we can harness it. Think about how you can create as you say. Set your intention, put in the effort, and watch magic happen!

Conversation

“Speak not but what may benefit others or yourself; avoid trifling conversation.”

-Benjamin Franklin (1706-1790)

Conversation. Communication between people. Conversation is often called an art, because it can take talent, and skill. We know when we’ve had a good conversation – we feel like there was an exchange of energy and ideas. We feel heard, and understood. We feel like we’ve learned something, or that we’ve spent our time well. It’s more than just “small talk,” it’s something substantial – a meal rather than a snack!

Sincerity

“Sincerity is the foundation of the spiritual life.”

Albert Schweitzer (1875-1965)

A foundation is something upon which everything else is built. So it’s a good idea to look at the sincerity with which we live our lives. It seems to me that sincerity is a little bit more than honesty. It’s not just the words we say, but the feeling that we put behind those words. There are no “loopholes” with sincerity – it’s not just what we say, but what we mean.

“Perhaps the most famous icon of the holiday is the jack-o-lantern. Various authorities attribute it to either Scottish or Irish origin. However, it seems clear that it was used as a lantern by people who traveled the road this night, the scary face to frighten away spirits or faeries who might otherwise lead one astray. Set on porches and in windows, they cast the same spell of protection over the household. (The American pumpkin seems to have forever superseded the European gourd as the jack-o-lantern of choice.) Bobbing for apples may well represent the remnants of a Pagan ‘baptism’ rite called a ‘seining’, according to some writers. The water-filled tub is a latter-day Cauldron of Regeneration, into which the novice’s head is immersed. The fact that the participant in this folk game was usually blindfolded with hands tied behind the back also puts one in mind of a traditional Craft initiation ceremony.”

MBG: 2 Tarot Spreads That Are Just Spooky Enough For Halloween

Halloween wasn’t always all about cutting holes in pumpkins and donning cat ears. The holiday we celebrate today is adapted from the ancient Celtic festival of Samhain. According to Celtic tradition, November 1 marks the official descent into winter, and the night before is a time when the dead visit us here on Earth.

EarthSky News: Moon goes by Jupiter on Halloween

On October 30 and 31, 2019, watch for two brilliant luminaries – the crescent moon and the dazzling planet Jupiter – to pop out in close vicinity of one another as dusk deepens into nightfall. Given clear skies, you should have no trouble seeing either world, because the moon and Jupiter rank as the 2nd-brightest and 4th-brightest celestial luminaries, respectively. By early November, a larger crescent moon will leave king planet Jupiter behind to join up with the ringed planet Saturn.

Patheos-Pagan: A Samhain Spell: Protection From Unwanted Spirits

With the coming of Samhain, the veil between worlds thins. It’s long been believed that on this night the spirits of the dead roam freely among the living. As such, we often welcome the spirits of our beloved ancestors to come visit our homes.

Inner Journey:

REVIEW AND RECOMMIT

“Few people have any next, they live from hand to mouth without a plan, and are always at the end of their line.”
— Ralph Waldo Emerson

Just think: When we are driving, we know where we want to go and we plot out our route. When we plan and prepare a meal, we follow a recipe and monitor the food as it cooks.

How much attention do we give to planning the direction of our lives?

Taking the time to review our quality of life gives us a chance to re-evaluate what we are doing and where we want to go. It lets us fine-tune our direction, to ensure we are on track for what we most want.

Stop and think about your last 6 months. What did you learn? What would you like to do differently? Where do you want to recommit?

“Organizing is what you do before you do something, so that when you do it, it is not all mixed up.”
— A. A. Milne

“Always have a plan, and believe in it. Nothing happens by accident.”
— Chuck Knox

A Note from the Universe

The way you know you’ll receive 7 times what you give or in some cases 4,900 times what you give, is that the giving gives you true joy without any thought of even receiving 1 times back.

Nice R.O.I.,

Vision

“Visionary people are visionary partly because of the very great many things they don’t see.”

Berkeley Rice

Isn’t this so true! Visionary people don’t seem to see obstacles – or at least, they don’t see them as obstacles, maybe just as challenges. I’ve heard so many successful business people say that when going in, they didn’t even know what could go wrong. They were so focused on looking at their vision that all the obstacles were a blur. They were so committed to following through with their vision that they couldn’t even imagine anything stopping them. And they turned something that vision into a reality.
