Thought For The Day: February 13, 2020 “YES, YES, YES!”

Happy Thursday,

We are all capable of building amazing things. However, we are also capable of building our biggest obstacles. When we give up, refuse to try, let fear get in our way or talk ourselves down. Each of these things is a brick that creates a piece of our mental wall. Eventually, there will come a time when we must stop building and start climbing. YES, I can do this! YES, I’m scared but I will do this! YES, I will keep trying! You’ve totally got this!

Inner Journey:

SLOW DOWN AND ENJOY

“Adopt the pace of nature, her secret is patience.”
— Ralph Waldo Emerson
Racing through life is very stressful. If we stay in high gear too long, we lose our ability to shift down. And when we’re stressed, we can’t access happiness, appreciation, fun, compassion, generosity, awareness of beauty and other wonderful qualities. High stress also triggers negative emotions like frustration, impatience, anger and fear.
Life has so much to offer if we will slow down and truly experience it. We must always remember that we are the ones in control of the accelerator. We CAN choose to brake.
“Slow down and enjoy life. It’s not only the scenery you miss by going too fast — you also miss the sense of where you are going and why.”
— Eddie Cantor

A Note from the Universe

Worldwide Proclamation!

This is to remind all my loyal subjects that you are not my loyal subjects. And that all the sacrifices, appeasements, and groveling have never been necessary.

I, the Universe – the sun, the moon, and the stars, the Alpha and the Omega, and all the rest – have created a paradise in Time and Space so that I, through you,  might experience its infinite splendors, drink from its every cup, and live, love, and be merry in ways impossible without you.

Your desires, therefore, are my desires for you. Your dreams are my dreams. And so, your wisdom has been added to my own. You are the be-all and end-all of Time and Space, the only reason for this Garden of Eden. You can do no wrong, there are no mistakes, and it’s all good.

Follow your heart, delight in your preferences. Approve of yourself. Stake your claim, demand it, and hold out your hands, expectantly. Banish your doubts, get off of your knees, and live as you please. Because, dearest, you can, and this is all I’ve ever wanted.

You’re just another part of me

Winter

“In a way winter is the real spring, the time when the inner thing happens, the resurge of nature.”

-Edna O’Brien, 1978

In the winter, on the outside, it looks like nothing is happening. The trees are bare. The ground is cold. But growth is taking place. Inside things are happening. We don’t see the results of that growth until the spring, but that doesn’t mean that something wasn’t taking place every moment. The tree is bare, but it is very much living. It’s like when we’re meditating – we look like we’re asleep because on the outside we are still, but major growth is happening on the inside.

Inner Journey:

CHANGING CONSCIOUSNESS

Why should we care about raising our consciousness? When we set an intention to change and grow, we begin a journey in which we move from coping, to learning and finally, to the enjoyment of living.

Here are some of the shifts we move through:

From dependence on the clock, to charting a direction, to moment-to-moment guidance from intuition.

From doing things right, to doing the right things, to being your true self.

From lack of self discipline to having personal willpower to being completely willing to express our essence.

From being out of control, to being in control, to trusting and letting go of the need to control.

With each step, we experience greater freedom, fulfillment and joy. Worth going for, don’t you think?

“Every human has four endowments – self awareness, conscience, independent will and creative imagination. These give us the ultimate human freedom… The power to choose, to respond, to change.”

Winter

“There is a privacy about it which no other season gives you. In spring, summer, and fall people sort of have an open season on each other; only in the winter, in the country, can you have longer, quiet stretches when you can savor belonging to yourself.”

-Ruth Stout, 1955

In other seasons we are more outwardly oriented, we’re playing sports or running around outside. In the winter we tend to spend more time going inward. This is a time for reflection, and contemplation. In places where there is snow, the snow tends to make everything more quiet. It’s as if we are meant to listen more closely, to listen to our hearts.

Happy Tuesday,

Winter

“There is a wilder solitude in winter
When every sense is pricked alive and keen.”

-May Sarton, “The House in Winter” 1966

I know that we have readers all over the world, and for those in the southern hemisphere, this is actually summer time! But here in the U.S., where I am, we are in the midst of winter. Even in California, which is known to be pretty “season-less,” the temperature has dropped. That nesting instinct kicks in; we want to be warm and cozy. The weather brings us indoors, and like hibernating bears, it is a time for us to be still.

BIG MIND, LITTLE MIND

“It is the mind that makes one wise or ignorant, bound or emancipated.”
— Sri Ramakrishna
Zen distinguishes big mind from small mind. Big mind identifies with its process, is impersonal and participates universally. Big mind is unlimited possibilities, deeper understanding, forgiveness, acceptance, insight, connectedness, attention.
Small mind is self centred and focuses only on itself. It is compulsive, limited, reactive and mechanical. Small mind feeds on itself — fear reacts to fear, judgment reacts to judgment, anger sparks more anger.
Always seek higher perspectives and you will in time find freedom.

-Anais Nin (1903-1977)

The amount of courage that we have depends on the way that we see ourselves. Remember the Cowardly Lion in The Wizard of Oz? He went to see the Wizard because he did not like being cowardly – he wanted the Wizard to give him courage. And yet, just by setting out on the journey, taking that step forward into the unfamiliar, took a great deal of courage! And all along the way, the lion was put into situations where he could demonstrate his courage – and he did, without even realizing it! It takes until the end of the story for the lion to see that his courage was with him all the time. And with that discovery, his life expanded.

Daily Tarot: Strength

Although it may be a peaceful day, that calm may all be on the surface. If dissatisfaction or anger is brewing at depth, there could be thoughts or fantasies of revenge or anger to fuel the bad feelings. Face everyone and everything with great care and respect. You have more than enough strength to deal with whatever comes up. Obviously, don’t bait or antagonize anyone. Kindness wins

Thought For The Day: February 7, 2020 “The Inner Healer”

Happy Friday,

Emotional health is a hot topic that everyone is talking about. I’m old enough to remember the days when this subject was taboo. People spoke about emotional health in whispered tones like it was a dirty secret. Newsflash….. it’s not. We can offer guidance to someone who is struggling. We can’t fix them, that’s not our job, but we can listen and offer suggestions. Remember, you are responsible for your own emotional wellbeing. If you need help then seek it out. you have the strength and courage to do so. If you need to have space and take time for yourself (and NO your not being selfish!) make it happen. The people who want what’s best for you will understand. Embrace your inner healer today and make yourself a priority.

Daily Good: Serious Fun

“Leon was a renegade even as a little kid, and bless him, lived a successful life doing it his own way. He came of draft age exactly as America was entering the war in Vietnam, told us he had no intention of getting drafted and then made good on his promise by baking bread for members of the Draft Board the morning he had to appear. There, he ceremoniously cut his loaf into generous slices and handed each member of the Board a well-buttered slice, telling them that his reasons for wanting Conscientious Objector status was baked into his bread! “I could try and say it in words,” he told them, “but tasting my bread will say it much better than I could.” Carolyn North shares more in this moving tribute to her brother. { read more }

MNN:  17 dogs that really, really love sticks

Many dogs love sticks. For some, it’s the thrill of the chase when the stick is thrown. Others just like the satisfaction of gnawing on wood. And some just like carrying around their prize like a trophy. Plus, it doesn’t hurt that sticks look a lot like bones. What’s not to love?

Patheos-Pagan: The Spiritual Benefits Of Being A Hermit

Every winter, I turn into a modern-day hermit. It’s a practice I’ve come to accept about myself, even though it goes against the social norms and peer pressure to always be doing something. I’ve learned to make the most of these times, and I feel there are so many spiritual benefits to being a hermit.

Inner Journey:

MAKING LIFE OUR OWN

“Life is not lost by dying; life is lost minute by minute, day by dragging day, in all the thousand small uncaring ways.”
— Stephen Vincent Benet

What’s needed for a new relationship with time and life?

Intention — Get really clear about what you want.

Desire — How much do you want something new for yourself? Know your motivation. Desire brings the energy for change.

Belief and/or willingness to trust you can have what you want. If belief is lacking, can you believe in the possibility that you can find a new way of living?

Perseverance, discipline — It takes time and effort to change attitudes and habits. We can’t expect a new life overnight.

Acceptance, both of what’s happening now and of who we are. Until we honestly and openly accept our present situation, we cannot change it.

A willingness to try something new.

“It is so easy to waste our lives: our days, our hours, our minutes. … It is so easy to exist instead of live. Unless you know there is a clock ticking. So many of us changed our lives when we heard a biological clock and decided to have kids. But that sound is a murmur compared to the tolling of mortality.”
— Anna Quindlen

A Note from the Universe

You wouldn’t believe the stuff people think they want.

Just the other day someone was asking for a llama.

Nothing wrong with llamas, I have a few myself, but the llama he wants is supposed to help him with his business; schlepping stuff over mountains, they’re good for that.

Now, why do you suppose he didn’t just ask for a pickup truck?

Trust me, he could’ve asked for a pickup truck and he’d have been a lot happier.

So… I’m off to the bazaar. In the meantime, should you need anything, please be sure to ask for what you really want.

Tallyho,

The Universe

Today’s Recipe: Roasted Radishes Will Become Your New Favorite Vegetable With This Flavorful Recipe

Russians love radishes, from garden-variety red to pungent black, enjoying them not only fresh but also salted, marinated, or turned into savory preserves. I like simply to roast them. If you’ve never had cooked radishes before, you’ll be delighted. Though they retain some crunch, their flavor mellows, and the muted red of their skin is alluring.

Courage

“Fearlessness is the first requisite of spirituality.”

-Mohandas K. Gandhi (1869-1948)

The Course in Miracles says that basically everything can be divided up into two choices, fear or love. And ultimately, it is all just love because fear is really just the absence of love. So, if fearlessness is courage, then courage is love. Courage is strength. It’s the ability to call upon the strength and love that it inherent within each one of us, to bring it forth, to let it shine.

Daily Tarot: The Lovers

Relax, take a deep breath, and don’t let any feelings of anxiety derail your plans for the day. A certain level of nervousness may be in the air today but it doesn’t have to be contagious and you don’t have to catch it. If a touch of anxiety serves to give you a greater sense of caution, that can be a good thing.
