Spirituality & Health: Mindful Walking
In the children’s book Wacky Wednesday, Dr. Seuss imagines a world where people are doing very odd things indeed, like driving a car facing backward. That’s how I felt the other day in my neighborhood. I saw one lady pushing her stroller, totally ignoring her baby while staring at her text messages. Another walked her dog, equally mesmerized by her phone and ignoring her cute pooch.

Every time we step to our stoves to make a meal we’re engaging with the society around us. Each ingredient that we use, every technique, every spice tells a story about our access, our privilege, our heritage, and our culture. The foods and dishes we consume are all part of larger forces that impact our lives. Our appetites and what we crave are the result of our place in the world at that time.

WE PROJECT OUR STRENGTHS
“Any situation that you find yourself in, is an outward reflection of your inner state of beingness.”
— El Morya
We have discussed that OUR WORLD MIRRORS WHO WE ARE BACK TO US. When we get upset by something outside of us, our reaction shows us that we have an inner wound to be healed.
Just as we can be unconscious of our wounds, we can also be unconscious of our strengths. If you are really drawn to the positive qualities in another person, you are being invited to own those same qualities in yourself.
“The people we are in relationship with are always a mirror, reflecting our own beliefs, and simultaneously we are mirrors reflecting their beliefs. So relationship is one of the most powerful tools for growth… if we look honestly at our relationships we can see so much about how we have created them.”

Music
“Music is your own experience, your own thoughts, your wisdom. If you don’t live it, it won’t come out of your horn. They teach you there’s a boundary line to music. But, man, there’s no boundary line to art.” -Charlie Parker (1920-1955)
Whatever we create comes through us. It is our own expression of music, or any kind of art, that makes it unique and original. Music is a part of the universe, and when we take the time to listen, we can channel it through to our everyday lives. There are infinite possibilities before us, and music is one way that we can experience that.

Happy Wednesday,
Is it a good day or a bad day? Well, I guess it depends on what you’re looking for. If we’re having a bad day we sometimes go out of our way to find more bad things (regardless of how small) to keep the “pity train” rolling. Take a deep breath and look for the “One Good Thing” even if it has nothing to do with the current situation. This simple exercise clears the mind, and opens the windows on the pity train, giving us the breath of fresh air needed to change the landscape of perception.

It does come. But it comes only to the patient, who are there as though eternity lay before them, so unconcernedly still and wide. Inner Journey:
DIRECT YOUR SUBCONSCIOUS MIND
“The power to move the world is in the subconscious mind.”
— William James
Our subconscious mind creates our lives perfectly according to how it has been programmed. It works 24 hours of every day, 365 days per year. It accepts instructions from the conscious mind, checks on old inner programming and executes.
The subconscious mind acts on old beliefs stored over a lifetime. Many of those beliefs you may have accepted without thinking. Or you may have absorbed them when you were too young to exercise choice. Many of the beliefs that govern your life may no longer match what you now hold to be true.
Nonetheless, the subconscious mind is the director till you rewrite the scripts. Put some effort into getting it working on your positive, conscious intentions instead of your old limiting, unconscious beliefs and your life will change.
“If a man devotes himself to the instructions of his own unconscious, it can bestow this gift [of renewal], so that suddenly life, which has been stale and dull, turns into a rich unending inner adventure, full of creative possibilities.”
— Marie-Louise von Franz

“Heard melodies are sweet, but those unheard

“Music has charms to soothe a savage breast,
To soften rocks, or bend a knotted oak.” -William Congreve (1670-1729)
No, that’s not a typo. We’ve all heard it as “savage beast” but it really was said “savage breast.” And I think it is more effective that way. A savage breast says to me, “an angry heart,” and I can see that as being hard and cold. There is a lot of power there, but Congreve uses the word “charms” instead. Interesting… the power of music comes not from sheer strength but from its charms, from its subtle, gentle effect on our soul.”
