Daily Good: DH Lawrence on Trees, Solitudes and What Roots Us

Now man cannot live without some vision of himself. But still less can he live with a vision that is not true to his inner experience and inner feeling.

– D.H. Lawrence –

DH Lawrence on Trees, Solitudes and What Roots Us

“A supreme challenge of human life is reconciling the longing to fulfill ourselves in union, in partnership, in love, with the urgency of fulfilling ourselves according to our own solitary and sovereign laws. Writing at the same time as Hesse, living in exile in the mountains, having barely survived an attack of the deadly Spanish Flu that claimed tens of millions of lives, the polymathic creative force D.H. Lawrence (September 11, 1885-March 2, 1930) took up the question of this divergent longing with great subtlety and splendor of insight in his autobiographically tinted novel ‘Aaron’s Rod’, rooting the plot’s climactic relationship resolution in a stunning passage about trees.”{ read more }

EarthSky News: Moon, 2 bright planets at nightfall

As darkness falls in late July/early August 2020, let the bright moon introduce you to the king planet Jupiter and the ringed planet Saturn. From around the word on July 31, look for these two worlds beneath the moon, starting at nightfall. Although the glare of the almost-full waxing gibbous moon will wash many stars from the blackboard of night, Jupiter and Saturn should be bright enough to withstand the drenching moonlight.

LIVING IN HARMONY

“Peace comes not from the absence of conflict, but from the ability to cope with it.”
— Unknown Source

Angeles Arrien says that life will be simple if we follow the four-fold way counselled by indigenous peoples:
1.Show up, being present with all four mental, emotional, physical and spiritual intelligences.
2.Pay attention to what has heart and meaning.
3.Tell the truth without blame or judgment.
4.Be open to outcome, not attached to outcome.

A Note from the Universe

It takes a really special person someone quite extraordinary, to find true happiness in the lap of luxury surrounded by wealth and abundance, friends and laughter, and choices, choices, choices.

And funnily enough, it’s usually the exact same kind of person who can be happy without all that, spending time alone, maybe with a book, or some tools, or a dog for the odd distraction.

“Styles, like everything else, change. Style doesn’t.”

Linda Ellerbee, 1991

There are so many different fashion trends and fads – they come and go as quickly as the magazines appear and disappear on the newsstands! We couldn’t possibly follow each one. And we wouldn’t want to! At a certain point in our lives, we find that all this is fun to observe, but we have to develop our own sense of style. We have to refer to ourselves to know what we like and don’t like, what works for us and what doesn’t. Being confident is always in style

With people wearing masks sometimes a smile is hard to detect. Masks make things impersonal and sterile. However, we can still share a smile with others. We can smile with our eyes and with our tone of voice. Today make a conscious effort to share happiness with those you meet. These times are hard on everyone and a little friendly energy makes a wonderful gift!

A Note from the Universe
Whoops… I did it again. Took a little nap, had a few dreams, and worlds were born. Planets spun and cooled. Continents rose and fell. And civilizations clashed and united.

Actually, it’s quite good fun. But I also dreamed I was you. And in that dream, for a spell, I didn’t remember I was also the Universe.

It was frightful, actually. Just about scared me to death until, as you, I slowly remembered who I was. And in those waking moments, it was as if the earth shook, the seas danced, and the skies rejoiced almost as much as myself. As if they were waking up, too. It was the most beautiful, sublime, intoxicating rush of pure joy I think I’ve ever known.

How I wish I could tell you more. But like a farmer eager for the new crop, any rush to harvest would spoil the yield. Besides, words would utterly fail me.

Fidgeting madly,

Style
“The style is the man himself.”

-George-Louis de Buffon (1707-1788)

This quote is talking about writing style. He is saying that the style in which a person writes is how his personality shines through. Look at how many times, and how many ways, we have heard the same spiritual lessons. There are so many good spiritual teachers out there, with books and videos and classes and ministries. And yet they’re really essentially all saying the same thing when it comes down to it! But we each respond differently because we have different styles of our own, and different styles resonate with us in different ways. Said with a certain style we hear the messages better, understand them more, relate to them more personally.

Inner Journey:

ACCEPT CHANGE

“We cannot live the afternoon of life according to the program of life’s morning; for what in the morning was true will in evening become a lie.”
— C.G. Jung

Life continually evolves. We’re always moving into new experiences, new possibilities. This constant change unsettles the personality, which finds security in stability. But with life always in flux, that security is an illusion. We experience pain by trying to hold on to things that are not solid.

Life becomes joyful when we can open to the constant flow and ride freely with it. This requires us to let go of the need to control. We need to learn to trust.

“Can it then be that what we call the ‘self’ is fluid and elastic? It evolves, strikes a different balance with every new breath.”
— Wayne Muller

“We’re never the same; notice how you’re called to write something entirely different about a topic you responded to weeks or months ago.”

Style
“Style is the garb of thought.”

-Seneca the Younger (5? B.C. – A.D. 65)

What we say, the content, is important, and the way we say it, the style, is important, too. I saw a television movie about the life of Mother Teresa and one scene really stuck with me. Of course, her whole life was beautiful, and everything about her was beautiful. But we don’t really associate Mother Teresa as someone who was concerned with style. Ah, quite the contrary! She knew that her appearance was going to make an impression on the people she served. She chose her habit very carefully. She did not want it to be too fancy, or bright, and she didn’t want it to be too plain, or drab. She went through several different designs before choosing the one that she felt was just right. And when she found that one, she stuck with it. She didn’t have to think about it anymore. This was a woman of style. She knew what was right for the occasion and she got just what she wanted.

Happy Tuesday,

We all have things that we worry about and when we worry we waste our energy. While acknowledging our problems is a good thing, getting caught in them is not. Visualize worry as a spiderweb. The more you struggle with it the more wrapped up you become. But if we take that energy and put it to good use we find that A) things resolve themselves or B) A solution comes bebopping along and presents itself. Embrace hope and believe in yourself, and always look for that One Good Thing! Above all spend your energy wisely.

Tonight, while the moon is a few days shy of meeting up with the red supergiant star Antares, let’s see if we can make out the dark areas on tonight’s moon, which is at or somewhat past its half-illuminated first quarter phase at nightfall July 27, 2020. These smooth, low-lying lunar plains are called maria,

Patheos-Pagan: Undoing or Reversing Spells

There are a few questions that I get asked on a regular basis, one of them is:

“I worked a spell and it has gone horribly wrong, how do I undo it”

It does happen, I suspect it has occurred for most of us at one time or another. Spells do have a habit of working in unexpected ways.

Inner Journey:

Slow down

“The soul requires duration of time — rich, thick, deep, velvety time — and it thrives on rhythm. Soul can’t be hurried or harried …. We may go through many events in the day and experience nothing because the soul has not had the opportunity to feel them from many different points of view.”
— Robert Sardello

Soul cannot exist when our connections in life remain superficial. An experience of soul requires that we take time to be fully present to the details of our lives.

Explore what happens when you take the time to STOP and PAY ATTENTION. When we choose to slow down and really experience the qualities of our lives, we get a whole new perspective on what living is all about.

“We must not allow the clock and the calendar to blind us to the fact that each moment of life is a miracle and mystery.”
— H. G. Wells

“The well of Providence is deep. It’s the buckets we bring to it that are small.”
— Mary Webb

A Note from the Universe

It took some craftiness to create the splendors you now live in because it all had to be done with the most exquisite balance, and in just such a way that you’d never, ever become bored.

Yeah, I had to throw in a few valleys so that you could truly appreciate the peaks. A few scaly, ugly, biting creatures, to make the others more adorable. Some slippery slopes, dangerous curves, and moving targets, to show you how agile, brilliant, and cunning you are. And some quicksand, tornadoes, and earthquakes, to help you appreciate a stolen nap, an evening stroll, and quiet times.

But perhaps, best of all, I had to dream up some pretty special people. You know, with perspectives and traits so unlike your own that sometimes it would seem your only means of surviving the relationship would be learning to love yourself, even more. Aren’t they a piece of work?

Tallyho,

The Universe

Style
“To me style is just the outside of content, and content the inside of style, like the outside and inside of the human body – both go together, they can’t be separated.”

-Jean Luc Godard

In this quote Jean Luc Godard is talking about writing style in particular, but it can really be applied to any kind of style. We always hear: “You can’t judge a book by its cover” and yet, it happens all the time! Even if we don’t “judge” a book, or a person, by appearance, experience tells us that certain expectations have been set up for us. What does this mean to us spiritually? We understand that mind and body, inside and outside, are intricately linked. We need to take care of both. Our style reflects the person we are, it’s what the world experiences of us. The way we present ourselves is the way we see ourselves.

Thought For The Day: July 27, 2020 “It’s OK and It’s Enough”

Happy Monday,

Humans are busy creatures. Every day we scurry around trying to stuff as much as we can into our day. But by the end of that day, we often feel like we didn’t get enough done. This causes stress, anxiety, and worry. The truth is that if we put aside what we can’t control, delegate duties or just let go of things that are no longer relevant then we feel more productive. Even if you only accomplish a few things on your list, it’s ok and it’s enough. You’ve totally got this!

Riding The Currents: Cat’s Angel Message for July 25, 2020

July’s Theme: Pay attention to your path. You will be receiving important guidance this month so get ready to receive. If something compels you to take action this is the time to go for it!

By riding life’s currents we learn to go with the flow of change and events. This helps us to navigate easily and see things clearly. ~Cat

725:  Whether we like it or not change is a part of our path and is necessary for both personal and spiritual growth. Whether change happens naturally or we initiate it ourselves there will always be feelings of uncertainty that come with it. Today the Universe is letting us know that our faith in the changes that we are experiencing is well-founded. Things are moving forward, the wheels are turning and the pieces are lining up. Welcome these new blessings and don’t allow small setbacks to stop your momentum. Start with baby steps if you need to, acknowledge the tiny miracles and promote goodwill to those around you. Seeing these changes as an adventure will help to make every day a victory!

Today’s Spirit Helpers include:

Archangel Jeremiel is in charge of life reviews and changes. He can help you see everything that you have accomplished recently as well as the areas that need attention and helps us to let go of what we no longer need. He teaches us that by taking inventory of our lives we gain a clear perspective of where we are on our path, which in turn helps us to make positive life changes. He removes our fear of change and what the future holds and replaces them with a sense of expectant excitement.

The Ascended Master Melchizedek helps keep our energy balanced and flowing. This is essential for using our gifts and understanding the information we receive. He can also help to diffuse unpleasant situations that can arise as we go through change and transformation. Since he helps us heal through color, pay attention to the colors that draw you or feel relevant

The Welsh Goddess Cerridwen uses her cauldron “Amen” to help provide us with knowledge, wisdom, personal rebirth, and inspiration. remember that change brings us the transformation that we need. She reminds us “The opportunity for your own transformation lies before you. It provides you the chance to spread your wings and grow. Look into my sacred cauldron and see the vision of your path unfolding before you.”

Our Sacred Stones for today include:

Chrysocolla. This powerful blue-green stone helps us during periods of change and challenging times. It brings smooth transitions and helps us to accept change with serenity and calm. It helps us to be more self-aware and promotes self-confidence that inspires both creativity and motivation.

Mookite, a form of Jasper that comes in many creamy color combinations, promotes decision making and versatility. These things are important when we are faced with new experiences and find ourselves faced with the need to take action. It encourages us to be flexible during times of change and helps us to embrace new experiences with an open sense of adventure.

Pink Kunzite is a feel-good stone that helps us to go with the flow. It brings feelings of peace as it connects us to universal love as it removes obstacles from our path and promotes communication on all levels.

Blessings for a magickal day! Cat

Given my love of Persephone, it’s not surprising that I would also feel a strong connection to Demeter and so it seemed only logical that the book I intend as a follow up to Persephone: Practicing the Art of Personal Power would be focused on Persephone’s mother. While doing research for this book recently, I was reminded that one of Demeter’s aspects is that of Demeter Erinyes.

Inner Journey:

LIVE YOUR OWN LIFE

“We don’t always know what makes us happy. We know, instead, what we think SHOULD. We are baffled and confused when our attempts at happiness fail…We are mute when it comes to naming accurately our own preferences, delights, gifts, talents. The voice of our original self is often muffled, overwhelmed, even strangled, by the voices of other people’s expectations. The tongue of the original self is the language of the heart.”
— Julia Cameron

We are each unique beings with a unique path in life. If we wish to be fulfilled, we need to go to our own hearts for direction. We might regularly ask ourselves:
•”What do I really want to do?”
•”What brings me greatest happiness?”
•”How can I bring more of these into my life?”

Life wants us to go for what brings us most joy and meaning.

“It doesn’t interest me what you do for a living. …I want to know what you ache for, and if you dare to dream of meeting your heart’s longing.”
— Oriah Mountain Dreamer

“Let me listen to me and not to them.”
— Gertrude Stein

“What you must dare is to be yourself.”

Problems/Solutions
“The best way to solve any problem is to remove its cause.”
-Martin Luther King, Jr. (1929-1968)

If we don’t find the cause and make changes, the same problem is going to keep coming back again and again in different guises. This is true whether we’re talking about fixing a leaky faucet, a broken heart, or an unbalanced budget. We have to look at our problems, explore our options, and take responsibility for creating solutions that work.

Relax, take a deep breath, and don’t let any feelings of anxiety derail your plans for the day. A certain level of nervousness may be in the air today but it doesn’t have to be contagious and you don’t have to catch it. If a touch of anxiety serves to give you a greater sense of caution, that can be a good thing.
