Some we weather alone, some times we have help and sometimes we have to deal with our own and help another at the same time and while we may not be able to actually help we can listen. ThoughtCo: History of Imbolc

Imbolc is a holiday with a variety of names, depending on which culture and location you’re looking at. In the Irish Gaelic, it’s called Oimelc, which translates to “ewe’s milk.” It’s a precursor to the end of winter when the ewes are nursing their newly born lambs. Spring and the planting season are right around the corner.

Inner Journey:

JUDGMENT CREATES

“If you judge people, you have no time to love them.”
— Mother Teresa

We know the power of thoughts to create. Consider, then, the impact of our judgments. When we judge someone critically, those judgments have the power to affect the one being judged, if they are open to our perceptions. This is the case even when we don’t say what we’re thinking.

For example, if I judge someone to be fat, and that individual perceives him or herself to be fat and is sensitive to the opinions of others, my thoughts will reinforce their ‘fat’ experience.

Being aware of the impact of our judgments helps us let go of our tendency to judge.

“There are three kinds of violence: one, through our deeds; two, through our words; and three, through our thoughts. …The root of all violence is in the world of thoughts, and that is why training the mind is so important.”

Beginnings & Endings

“We shall not cease from exploration
And the end of all our exploring
Will be to arrive where we started
And know the place for the first time.”

-T.S. Eliot (1888-1965)

There is a phrase we often use about “coming full circle” meaning that we’ve ended up back where we started, but with a newfound knowledge. Life is not linear. Some say it is like a spiral, others say it is like a ball of yarn. We go around seeing things and people and experiences that we’ve seen before, but we see them with new eyes because we have more understanding as we grow.

Thought For The Day: January 29, 2020 ” It’s A Win-Win”

Happy Wednesday,

Time is a gift that we can share with anyone and anywhere. Of all the things we can do for another sharing our time is one of the best. My mother, who is 87, is a good example. Sometimes when I ask her if there is anything she needs from me her answer is ” Just your company”. I make time even if it means that I don’t get something else done or it puts me behind. Why? Because it’s important and it makes her feel good and makes me feel good too. It’s a win-win situation!

-Lewis Carroll (1832 – 1898) Alice’s Adventures in Wonderland, 1865

Just where is this “beginning?” It’s an arbitrary thing. There is no real beginning, and there is no real end. Remember when it was New Year’s 2000 and the big argument was whether the New Millennium started on January 1, 2000 or January 1, 2001? And there was this huge concern about Y2K? It all seems so silly now. Each day is another day. We can choose when our beginnings are. We can begin right here, right now, right where we are. Or we can wait until tomorrow! REMOVE THE FILTERS

“You got to look at things with the eye in your heart, not with the eye in your head.”
— Lame Deer, Medicine Man of the Oglala people

Whenever we’re thinking, our experience is being filtered through our minds. For example, when I say to myself, “What a beautiful sunset!” I am not fully experiencing the sunset because I am involved with the words in my mind.

Explore letting go of the thoughts, the words, and connecting directly with your experiences. Tune in to the silence and the sensations in your body. Be aware of the spaciousness this brings because this is truly living in the present moment.

Being present doesn’t mean that we have to abandon thinking entirely. That’s not feasible, of course. But we can experiment with what it’s like to stop thinking once in a while!
