Happy Friday,

We all have times we feel down, have the blues or just have a bad day. Sometimes we can feel this way for days or sometimes longer and hey…. it happens! We turn away from everything and wrap ourselves in our black mood. So how can we shed that darkness? Try inviting a little light and look for at least ONE GOOD THING that has happened recently. Sometimes that one thing is small and that’s okay! What’s important is that you let in a little light and if you can find some humor in it, that’s even better. Laughter is a superhero that clears the mind and the spirit and shines like a thousand light watts of awesome. Light that beacon and shine baby!

We can learn a lot from nature, and trees are a great example. Trees are adaptable and flexible. Their roots hold the tree strong during times of stress or hardship. During a storm, a tree may lose a branch, one that may have been weakened and is no longer needed and they shed leaves, discarding what they have outgrown and no longer beneficial. The tree accepts these changes as part of life and continues to grow. See yourself as a tree. Your roots holding you steady, learn to weather storms with flexibility and learn to shed that which no longer serves you. Embrace growth and thrive. It’s January and time for the first full moon of the new year, the Wolf Moon. The Full Moon itself offers powerful energy for rituals of prophecy, divination, and protection. Any spell-work that requires extra energy, such as finding a new job or healing serious conditions, is best begun during the full moon. Also for love, gaining sacred knowledge, legal matters, attracting money and prophetic dreams.

The Native Americans named this moon the Wolf Moon because during the long dark nights the wolves were hungry and would often howl outside the lodges of the people. Other names for this full moon include the Cold Moon, Winter Moon (Colonial), Holiday Moon (China), Quiet Moon (Celtic), Ice Moon (neo-Pagan), Disting Moon, Moon of Little Winter and the Chaste Moon.

The January moon traditionally honored the Chinese deity Ch’ang-O, who was the goddess of the bedchamber and the protector of children. Other goddesses for January are Goddess for January include Freya, Inanna, Hera, Sinn and Sarasvati. To honor this moon try wearing colors of white, black and silver and adorning yourself with hematite, garnet, jet, onyx or chrysoprase. Blessings, Cat

Inner strength is something that we all have although there are times when we must dig deep for it. This can happen when we allow other people and outside events to dictate “what we should do”, “how we should think” or “how we should act”. Remember, you don’t have to follow the crowd. You have a mind and a voice…. use them. If it doesn’t feel right, sound right, look right or makes you uncomfortable then grab your strength and make the decision that is the best for you.

Travelling brings me wonderful opportunities to build awareness. When I get into the car, for example, I set an intention to drive well and stay alert to what other drivers and pedestrians are doing. When I realize that my mind has drifted and I’ve slipped into autopilot, I gently bring my focus back to the present.

It’s also a time when I can pay attention to my reactions. Does irritation arise when someone drives too quickly or slowly, or when I get stopped by a yellow light? Being aware of the irritation gives me the opportunity to acknowledge and then release it. If I choose to, I can be at peace anywhere – even on the road!
