Thought For The Day: Oct. 5, 2018 “Trust and Love”

Happy Friday,

This quote really hit me. How often do we tell someone ” I trust you”? Think about this. The words ‘I love you” are being handed out more freely in the last several years than ever before. But just because we love someone doesn’t necessarily mean we trust them. If you have someone that you trust then let them know. Maybe we should be saying ” I not only love you, I trust you as well”.

As the seasons change, the days grow shorter, the leaves change colors and the collection of flavors called pumpkin spice is added to practically everything.

These are just a few signs that autumn has arrived. Or is it fall? The indecision about which name to use only seems fitting when applied to a season that is itself a shift from one clearly defined season, summer, to another equally well-defined season, winter.

Patheos-Pagan: The Witch’s Toolbox: The Pentacle

Excerpted from The Witch’s Altar by Laura Tempest Zakroff and Jason Mankey. Llewellyn Publications, 2018.

The pentacle is often confused with the pentagram, and according to the Oxford English Dictionary, pentacle is a synonym for pentagram, but that’s not how the words are gen- erally used in Witchcraft. In Witchcraft, the word pentagram refers to a five pointed star, with the single point usually facing upward. Pentagrams are often ringed by a circle touching all five points of the star, but the circle is not necessary for something to be called a pentagram.

Inner Journey:

WE CAN’T ESCAPE

“Most of our obstacles would melt away if, instead of cowering before them, we should make up our minds to walk boldly through them.”
— Orison Swett Marden

We can’t escape problems and negativity. Escaping just brings denial and suppression – we continue to carry the problem with us. Ironically, it is our lack of acceptance and resistance to the problem that creates the pain. Resistance builds up an energy wall or block that, if not discharged, gets suppressed into the body. These blocks identify places where we have not enough understanding or love.

For health, we must work through what we seek to avoid. How do we do this? We can love parts of ourselves that we don’t like. We can seek the lessons we are being invited to learn through the problem. We can examine our beliefs and seek to see different perspectives and a bigger picture. As our perspectives grow, more of life makes sense and has meaning.

“The Lord is a good psychologist: he knows the way our minds run. Turmoil can be the Lord’s way of tapping us on the shoulder and saying, ‘Don’t forget me.'”
— Eknath Easwaran

A Note from the Universe

About those dreams you have each night that you don’t quite remember…

Well, those are the ones in which you hold sway over the stars, possessing the keys to the entire Universe, and in which all the angels sing your name in praise. The very same ones in which you summon legions to do your bidding, create worlds to play your games, and unflinchingly orchestrate challenges that are so intense, you completely forget you’re even dreaming.

And you’re having one right now.

Now, repeat after me, “I will remember I’m dreaming, I’m perfectly safe and sound, and that rumble in the jungle… is just me.”

Nature

“Ah, dear nature, the mere remembrance, after a short forgetfulness, of the pine woods! I come to it as a hungry man to a crust of bread.”

-Henry David Thoreau (1817-1862)

Nature can nourish us, refresh us, and replenish us. Time spent with nature helps to still the mind, to quiet the activity of our thoughts. Nature provides us with everything we need for our bodies with its bounty of fruits, grains and vegetables. Yet nature’s “food for thought” – its pure silence, is just as necessary for our health, mentally, physically and spiritually.

In Silence by Cat

KODAK Digital Still Camera

In Silence

The goddess of the desert speaks to me in silence.

Her breath, cool and dry, washes over me in gentle benediction.

It touches the wounded places inside and soothes my battered spirit.

Too much. Too much!

And my soul which has been ready to fly cries “Take me with you and let me dwell in silence too!”

Her breath again touches me; soothing me.

And from the silence she speaks; “Stay, it is not yet your time.  I am here. Take comfort from the silence within. Embrace it and hold me close.”

The voice fades on the desert breeze. Leaving me alone with the silence and a feeling of peace that washes over me with gentle benediction.

“Most of the time, we fall in love but can’t remain there. Princesses, knights, enchantments and dragons, mystery and adventure… not only are they here-and-now, they’re all that ever lived on earth! Nature

“Nothing in nature is isolated. Nothing is without reference to something else. Nothing achieves meaning apart from that which neighbors it.”

-Goethe (1749-1832)

Everything we have, everything we see, everything we are, has its roots in nature. We are all made up of the same basic materials! Look at your desk, the paper, wood and wicker that come from the trees, which grow from the earth. We feel disassociated from nature when we work in an office, and yet we can never get away from it. The water that runs through the rivers, and through our taps, and through our bodies, is all a part of nature. We are connected to the planet, and to each other, in ways seen and unseen

Nature

“Nature is ever at work building and pulling down, creating and destroying, keeping everything whirling and flowing, allowing no rest but in rhythmical motion, chasing everything in endless song out of one beautiful form into another.”

-John Muir (1838-1914)

Who taught the grass to grow, or the bird to sing? Who makes the wind blow, or told the lion roar? It is nature. It is nature being true to Itself. Does the bird aspire to roar? Or the lion “really want to direct?” We can learn from nature, to be true to ourselves, to let our natural talents and instincts shine in endless song. And then, to grow and change and go with the flow, knowing that all of our roles in this life eventually turn from one beautiful form into another.

This applies to food and friends and kindred, to anything God gives and takes away… As long as God is satisfied do thou rest content. If he is pleased to want something else of thee, still rest content.”
— Meister Eckhart

Our life begins to change in magical ways when we open to the experience of life AS IT IS. With acceptance, we stop fighting what is happening. And this creates space, an opening for new relationships to unfold.

Explore unconditionally saying yes to the facts of life. Accept your past and where you are now. Unconditional acceptance is unconditional love and this is healing.

“Sometimes what seems like surrender isn’t surrender at all. It’s about what’s going on in our hearts. About seeing clearly the way life is and accepting it and being true to it, whatever the pain, because the pain of not being true to it is far, far greater.”
— Nicholas Evans

A Note from the Universe

In a way life itself tracks a person’s generosity, much like an airline tracks frequent flyer miles.

The more you give, the more you earn, the higher you fly, and the further you go.

Today’s Recipe: Guacamole Deviled Eggs

This is hands down my favourite twist on deviled eggs. Instead of adding mayonnaise and vinegar, I add avocados and lime juice. Every bite is just so creamy and dreamy. Not to mention I love the green colour! If you’d like to make yours spicy, add half a minced seeded jalapeno.

Nature

“Nature is an endless combination and repetition of a very few laws. She hums the old well-known air through innumerable variations.”

-Ralph Waldo Emerson (1803-1882)

Interesting that Emerson calls Nature “she.” Maybe because we think of Mother Nature. The idea, though, is that nature is something we can count on. As unpredictable as nature can be, we do know that the sun will rise, the seasons will change, that rivers will flow to the sea. There are these laws in effect that go beyond our powers of human manipulation. Nature is much bigger than we are, and yet, at the same time, it is an essential part of who we are. The same laws that govern nature affect us as well.

Thought For The Day: Oct. 1, 2018 ” It’s Up To You”

Happy Monday,

Welcome to October! Our thought for today is just a reminder that we cannot rely on others to make us happy. While they can help we are responsible for our own happiness and seeing the blessings that we have in our lives. Tiny miracles and small everyday things really  do matter.
