Thought for the Day: July 10, 2017 “Monday’s Perception”

Happy Monday and welcome to a regular week…. you know one without a middle of the week holiday to mess you up!

How we view life is all about perception. The same is true for Monday’s. People hate Monday’s it’s the day you have to go back to work. But it’s also a new beginning. A new cycle where anything is possible and like the Phoenix we can create something new from the ashes of the old. Try looking at today with fresh perspective, envision the amazing possibilities that lie ahead and embrace your power as the creator of your own story!

The Celtic Tree Month of Holly

HOLLY LOREThe month of Holly or Tinne runs from July 8th until August 4th.

Holly has long been associated with death and rebirth in both Pagan and Christian lore and plays an important part of the Winter Solstice. In one Arthurian tale Gawain (representing the Oak King) battles  with the Green Knight who is armed with a holly club that is the symbol of winter. Both the Holly and the Oak are important during the Summer Solstice. During this time the Sacred White Horse of Oak transforms into the Unicorn of Holly. In ancient Rome holly was thought to ward against lightning strikes and keep witches away. It was also a popular gift to give friends during the Saturnalia, which was celebrated during the Winter Solstice.

PLANT INFORMATION

Holly can be either a shrub or a tree , deciduous or evergreen depending upon which species you have. (there are 18 of them) Most are  easily recognized by their

shiny dark green toothed leaves and blood red berries. If you are considering growing holly keep in mind that most varieties are “dioecious”. This means you would need both male and female plants if you want berries. This plant is considered POISONOUS and should not be ingested!!

Holly is considered a hardwood and  was used for the crafting of wheel shafts for chariots and spear shafts as well. The wood of the holly is white and particularly fine grained and closely resembles ivory. The berries can be used to make dye.

HOLLY IN MAGICK

Holly can be used for spells rest, sleep and to ease the passage of death. Holly should also be used when attracting a familiar. It is said that a man who carries a bag of holly leaves and berries will attract women. It is also said that the ancient Druids advised people to take holly boughs into their homes during the cold season as shelter for the fairies and other little people.

HOLLY PEOPLE

Those born during this month are strongly connected to the earth and can have amazing physical strength. Their matter of fact solidness and generous spirit is admired and respected by others. Holly people also tend to be very religious or spiritual in an advanced way, and they are usually the last to see it. They are honest, hardworking, truthful and pretty tolerant of most situations. They are the person you want on your side during a fight, if the cause is just one. They see both sides of an argument and will only take sides if they have to.

As a magickal name Holly is very festive and would be good for a sexy and attractive person. Someone who chooses this name knows they have a temper and can become “prickly” when crossed.

July’s Full “Buck” Moon in Capricorn

JulyFullMoon_zpse457a5d3[2]

July’s Full “Buck” Moon in Capricorn

July 8 or 9, 2017 (depending on your time zone.) 12:07 am EST

The Farmer’s Almanac calls this moon the Buck Moon because this is the time when bucks grow new antlers. Other names for this full moon are Thunder Moon, Summer Moon (colonial ), Hungry Ghost Moon (china), Ripe Corn Moon (cherokee), Crane Moon (choctaw), Moon of Claiming (celtic), Mead Moon (Medieval English), Rose Moon, Blessing Moon (pagan).

This month’s full moon is in Capricorn. If you have projects you need to start or finish this moon will help you engage and get things moving. It’s all about progress through conscious effort and providing the focus necessary to navigate through difficult situations.

The Buck Moon is a good time for divination, dreamwork and prosperity magick. The laid back energy of this moon also works well for meditation, so kick back and enjoy the feeling of the things you have accomplished this far. Add a little something extra to your magickal workings by using July’s herbs hyssop, lemon balm, mugwort, catnip or leaves from ash or oak trees.

You can also celebrate this months moon by wearing the colors blue-gray, silver or green and adorning yourself with moonstone, pearls, opals or a simple white agate.

Full moon blessings!

The Richness of Experience: Cat’s Angel Message for July 8, 2017

July’s Theme: Life Path – Divine Guidance – Action

Progress is measured by richness and intensity of experience- by a wider and deeper apprehension of the significance and scope of human experience. ~Herbert Read

78: If you’ve been doing the work that has been outlined over the last several months then you should have a good idea of your overall progress regarding prosperity and abundance. However, if you’ve been slacking and letting weeds grow on your path then the Angels want you to know that it’s time to get started. It’s easier and less “stress-full” to clear as we go instead of putting it off and becoming overwhelmed. Our lives and paths are works in progress. They both require effort and elbow grease to make things happen. Use the old grade school lesson of  Stop-Look- Listen to help you navigate “success-fully”.

*STOP and perform a self assessment: Are you where you need/want to be?

*LOOK forward not back.

*LISTEN to your inner guidance system.

Archangel Michael helps us to get moving in the right direction. If you feel lost or stuck he helps us to find our courage and offers clear guidance that helps us make the best decisions  possible. We can also call on the Egyptian goddess Maat to help us see through confusing situations by showing us the truth of the matter. Our Sacred Stone for today is Green Calcite which helps heal the physical body and invites divine flow into our lives.

Blessings for a magickal day!

Thought for the Day: July 7, 2017 “Forgiveness = Peace”

Happy Friday!

Our thought for the day is about forgiveness. One of the misconceptions about forgiving others is that once you do this everything is supposed to be okay. While this can sometimes be the case more often than not this is not how it works. There are just some things that cannot or should not be fixed. But think about this…..the biggest reason to forgive others is personal peace. By holding an unforgiving attitude we are giving another power over us. Peace of mind is more important than grudge holding. Do your best to forgive and let go, take back your power and move forward into something better!

Thought for the Day: July 6, 2017 “Misery Loves Company”

Happy Thursday!

Do you know what negative people hate the most? People with a positive attitude. Sometimes we allow negative people to influence us and our thinking. If we’re not careful we become bogged down it.  The goal of miserable, negative people everywhere lives in the old saying “Misery loves company”. Today is a good day to annoy those Negative Nellies by sharing your positive “git er done” attitude with those around you. Dazzle them with a smile and your awesome sparkle!

Thought for the Day: Happy Independance Day!

Happy Independence Day!

Maybe it’s just me but the 4th of July has a “different ” feel to it this year. America is already GREAT. One of our greatest assets lies in the unique diversity found here and a few people do not speak for all.

Please be safe today while you embrace the many freedoms our already great country has given you.!

Thought for the Day: July 3, 2017

Happy Monday!

Holidays and long weekends can be stressful, particularly if you are not a large group type of person. Just remember that it okay to step back for a bit and regroup. If you are an introvert (like me) sometimes just hanging out on the fringes of a group works just fine. It’s a great way to still be sociable and maintain your comfort zone. Breathe, laugh, enjoy!

The Horned Lizard or You Can Never Have Too Much Camouflage

Our desert has a number a unique and interesting creatures and the “horny toad” definitely fits the bill. These little fellows are also sometimes referred to as  “horned frogs” but in reality they are neither toads or frogs but lizards. They are well adapted to hot, dry desert climates. The spines that appear on it’s sides and back are actually modified scales that prevent loss of water through the skin. The horned lizard is a master of camouflage which helps them hide from predators or people with cameras. They are non aggressive and prefer to remain unnoticed if possible. They blend in almost perfectly with the ground unless startled then they run like heck and then stop. If this tactic fails to deter the predator then they puff up and spike out to appear larger and less appetizing. In western Colorado we have the Texas Horned Lizard which is one of eight species that can shoot a stream of blood (up to 5 feet) from the corners of their eyes. This confuses the predator and it doesn’t taste very good either, particularly to felines and canines.

After my most recent sighting of a small horned lizard last month I started wondering about this creature as a Spirit Animal. After doing some research I was disappointed to learn that all lizards are basically lumped together in one category. However, let’s start with the basic connection and along the way I’ll give you my perspective on the symbolism. The common theme for all lizards is the Dreamtime. This includes dreams during sleep ans well as  your personal dreams. So how does this relate to our little friend the horned lizard?  Camouflage. This skill makes him hard to see and we must look closely to “see” him. The same goes with our dreams. While not all dreams have a deep spiritual or mystical meaning there are those that do. You may not remember the entire dream but there is usually one thing that you brought out of the Dreamtime. A number, word, feeling, color, person, etc. The symbolism is camouflaged and in order to understand we must be willing to look closely.

The horned lizard also teaches us about protecting our space without aggressiveness or violence and in fact he is pretty non confrontational. His first reaction is to let things flow around him and not engage in “combat” and even going so far as to to remove himself from an unpleasant situation. However if he is pursued he can and will stand his ground by puffing up (gathering his courage) and making his “point”. Although he prefers not to horned lizard is more than capable of protecting himself if forced to do so. While his methods may seem odd or extreme they are merely more for the shock value. The final lesson that horned lizard has for us involves paying attention to our surroundings and the use of quick thinking if something goes awry. Always take in as much information as you can because you never know just what might be useful or help you out of a tight spot.

I hope that you have enjoyed our look at this unusual creature. As habitat dwindles we are seeing fewer of them. It would be a real shame to lose his wisdom altogether. be kind to Mother Earth and all her children!

Bright Blessings for a Magickal Week!
