Be Grateful: Cat’s Angel Message for September 23, 2019

923: Today is the Autumn Equinox, Mabon or Harvest Home to those of us who follow the pagan traditions. Gratitude is our keyword and it goes hand in hand with this seasonal celebration.  Faith is part of gratitude, and the stronger our faith the more we manifest and the more we have to be grateful for. This is a good time to perform a self check and think about the gifts and miracles that have blessed your life so far this year. By looking back we can see how far we have come from spring and the thought seeds that we planted at that time. Make sure to nurture the “new growth” and to harvest what’s ready now. Embrace your blessings with a grateful heart and affirm that you have faith that they will continue to be abundant in your life.




Today we honor the goddess aspects of the Sacred Feminine. They are the Earth Mothers and Harvest goddesses that are associated with this harvest festival (Demeter, Persephone, Pomona).

Mabon is the second harvest festival and like the Vernal Equinox night and day are once again equal. It is the Pagan day of Thanksgiving and is a time to honor the changing season and to give thanks for the bounty and abundance in our lives. It celebrates the wine/grape harvest and when our ancestors began the final preparations for the coming winter. The essence and energy is mellow and filled with gratitude and feelings of security. Mabon also honors aging deities and the spirit world. Considered a time of balance, it is when we stop and relax and enjoy the fruits of our personal harvests, whether they be from toiling in our gardens, working at our jobs, raising our families, or just coping with the hustle-bustle of everyday life. (This is normal, it happens) Take a moment to acknowledge your feelings, even indulge in a short pity party if you like, then pick yourself up, dust yourself off and remind yourself that you are worthy, strong and nothing will hold you back. Today, the angels want us to know that everything we do is important, even the small things. Help and support are always available and it’s only a request away. 5) If you unmarried and step over a broom that is on the floor, you will never marry.


6) The first items brought into a new home should be a new broom and a loaf of bread. It will bring good luck.


7) Never sweep dust out of the front door with your broom. All the good luck will be swept out with the dust!


8) Taking a broom across the water brings bad luck.


9) You should never lean a broom against a bed or the person who sleeps on that side will die.


10) Never hit someone with a broom, it will make them lazy.

When my older son was going into his junior year in high school, he started to study for the SAT tests and doing all the preparation that he has to do to get ready because those scores are so important when it comes to applying to colleges. When I spoke with a tutor about it, he said that students who are well-read typically do better on the test. That is because they develop a larger vocabulary, and a broader base of general knowledge. That makes sense to me. When we read we learn, and when we learn we expand our use of language.

920:  One of the most important things we need when working with our life purpose is support. Last month we talked about how friends and family make up our support system. This support is necessary because it brings new ideas, blessings, and people who can help us. Today we are being reminded that Spirit is part of our support system and that we should never hesitate to ask for what we need to support our “purpose”. Remember, when we ask for assistance we are effectively setting things in motion and even if we can’t see immediate results things are happening. If you feel as if you have lost something or that something is missing in your life bless the situation with love and affirm that you are ready to make room for something better. Have faith that you have been heard and that help is on the way!

This is so funny, and so true! I had this experience when visiting Australia. I felt a little bit like Alice in Wonderland! I could understand every word that people spoke, and yet many times I had no idea what they were talking about! The Australians still use the more traditional English terms, and somehow in America we’ve found another way. Is it a boot or a trunk? A bonnet or a hood? A footpath or a sidewalk? A trolley or a cart? A serviette or a napkin? And there is the same kind of communication “gap” between American adults and teenagers a lot of times… Is it good, bad or sweet? Hot, hip or cool? I could go on and on, but as they say, “a rose by any other name would smell just as sweet.” What matters is that we talk with each other, the rest is “details!”
