Spiritual Unite: The Journey By Chris Claxton

We came into this world from a source of light, and brought nothing with us but a hidden blueprint for this life and a soul contract agreement which again is none physical and not even held by us.
And we will, as sure as eggs are eggs, return to that source taking nothing with us but a knowledge of our time existence upon this human Earth.

MBG: 3 Reasons Mindfulness Is A Powerful Tool Against Eating Disorders

It’s a challenge for anyone to stay in the present moment. With our incessant social media scrolling, 24/7 news stream, and constant planning for the future, the distractions are omnipresent these days. For those suffering from eating disorders, a comparison mindset is one of those crippling distractions that keeps us from living in the here and now

Although researchers are still in the early stages of testing, a new study holds promise for people with autoimmune disorders. There’s the potential that something as simple as a daily dose of baking soda in water could reduce the inflammation of diseases like rheumatoid arthritis. But there’s still a whole lot of research to be done.

Patheos-Pagan: The Witch Who Hated Spells

The Witch who hated spells didn’t hate them for the reason you might think. This Witch was actually quite talented at creating and performing spells. They didn’t hate them because there had been a spell that had gone wrong, or perhaps too right. No no, nothing like that at all.

Inner Journey: Seek Insights

“The ultimate value of life depends upon awareness and the power of contemplation rather than upon mere survival.”
— Aristotle

INSIGHTS happen only when we shift to a higher, more inclusive perspective. As we grow in wisdom and experience, we become less attached to the form of reality and more aware of its spiritual side – its qualities, values and meaning. As we get to know ourselves as souls, we begin to let go of the self-consciousness of the ego. This allows us to more effectively include others and work with the whole picture.

When there is more in sight, we get more insights.

Try becoming aware of those times when you focus on differences. At those times, STOP and PAY ATTENTION and IDENTIFY SIMILARITIES INSTEAD. See how all parts fit into a bigger picture. Expand your perspectives. Find common causes, motives and needs. Go to another level of thinking and problem solving. Be open to using more imagination and creativity. Shift your thinking from “either/or” to “both/and” and be prepared for more insights.

“Insight occurs when, and to the degree that, one knows oneself.”
— Andrew Schneider

“We are not what we know. We are what we are willing to learn.”
— Council on Ideas

A Note from the Universe

You could call me your friend, but that’s not quite enough. You could call me your guide, but there’s more to it than that.

You could call me your conspirator, your helper, or your agent; your coach, counselor, or confidant; your father, mother, or child. You could call me the sun, the moon, and the stars; the wind, the sky, and the rain; the past, the present, and the future.

But really, what I’m getting at, the purpose behind all these Notes, and perhaps what I’d most like to hear one day, is you calling me “yourself.”

Friendship

“Each friend represents a world in us, a world possibly not born until they arrive, and it is only by this meeting that a new world is born.” -Anais Nin

Have you ever noticed that some new friends you don’t just “meet,” but you “recognize?” It’s as if we can see ourselves in that person. Maybe it’s chemistry, feeling that connection of oneness – or maybe it’s memory of a past life together or something. Whatever the reason, the discovery of this new friendship often leads to great things. Find out just why you were brought together. There are no coincidences!

MNN: Why we should live our lives more like sloths do

‘Life in the Sloth Lane’ embraces a slower, more mindful approach

Sloths  they’re the adorable, slow-moving mammals that many people have grown to love. These peaceful animals can also teach us a thing or two about how we should live our lives, according to zoologist Lucy Cooke  author of “Life in the Sloth Lane: Slow Down and Smell the Hibiscus,” a photo book filled with inspirational quotes about embracing and enjoying life

Cooke spoke with MNN about her love and commitment to sloths, and why they’re one of her favorite animals.

Patheos-Pagan: Sensual Healing Bath Ritual For Beltane

Beltane is often thought of as a sensual, sexual holiday. There may be expectations of mingling with others, celebration, dancing, and intimacy. If you’re single, solitary, or just not feeling that celebratory/sensual, you might be feeling left out. Celebrating Beltane doesn’t have to be a wild romp in the woods. It can be on your own terms. I created this solitary healing bath ritual to heal and to honor where you are at this point in your life and at Beltane.

Inner Journey: Speak Kindly To Yourself

— T. S. Eliot

How do you talk to yourself? Would you talk that way to anyone else?

Our thoughts create our reality. How do you typically think about yourself? Do you berate yourself for being stupid, sloppy, forgetful or insensitive? Do you watch yourself with interest, respect and compassion? Stay alert to your self-talk and let go of judgments that don’t serve you.

“The only way to have a friend is to be one.” -Ralph Waldo Emerson

Friendship is ours to give. It is a gift that multiplies when it comes back to us. Friends help us to be more of who we are, they help us to feel our connection to the world. Inner Journey: Accepting Reality

“…self-contempt never inspires lasting change.”
— Jane R. Hirschmann and Carol H. Munter

I can suck myself down into a deep, black hole when I focus on what I think I SHOULD be… more loving, sexy, productive, whatever. Thinking I should be something else means I’m not good enough now. This is poverty thinking and a guaranteed way to be miserable.

I can let go of this suffering by accepting WHAT IS. I can say, “This is how I am right now and that’s okay.”

When I first tried this, I could say it but not believe it. Then I began to experience the freedom this perspective brings – just by changing my mind! Now I’m beginning to believe it. What a gift!

Friendship

“Those friends thou hast, and their adoptions tried,
Grapple them to thy soul with hoops of steel.” -Shakespeare

One of the greatest gifts we are given in this lifetime is the gift of friendship. Our friends are our treasures! We learn so much from each other. Think about the first friend you ever had. Remember the joy you felt just hanging out and playing together? Chances are that the friends we had in childhood are different than the friends we have today. People change and grow and move away and go on to lead separate lives. But we remember those friends, and they remember us! We learned from them then, and are where we are now in part because of those friendships.

MBG: Struggling With Willpower? A ‘Spiritual Anchor’ Is The Solution You’ve Been Looking For

A “spiritual anchor” is an object that reminds people of what gives their lives meaning and purpose and consequently why they may want to change their behavior. It’s a talisman that connects to the most powerful neuro-networks in the central nervous system those that influence behaviors. This is because meaning and purpose are strongly related to emotions that “emote movement” toward healthy choices, choices people make because they are associated with what matters most to them.

A couple weeks ago some friends and I gathered for a Lord of the Rings marathon: all three movies back to back to back, complete with second breakfast, elevenes, lunch, dinner, and enough tea and ale to keep all the hobbits happy. It was a fun day – and a long day.

Tales of heroism – particularly from creatures as small and unlikely as hobbits – are popular with everyone

Inner Journey: What do you feed your mind

“I then remembered why I avoid the ‘news,’ if that’s what you want to call it. Our ‘news’ is a misnomer, and it’s more like ‘the ongoing train wreck you can tune in to at any time when you want to divert yourself from your purpose and your happiness… lose your faith in humanity… and go from feeling like things are pretty good to feeling like the world is going to sh*t and why bother going on, I mean really?'”
— Ali Brown

Our beliefs create our reality. If we wish to live happy, healthy lives, it’s vital that we feed our minds healthy, nourishing material. The negative, sensational focus of today’s ‘news’ media hardly serves to enlighten us about the true state of the planet. Let’s open to our limitless potential by keeping our focus firmly on what uplifts us.

“The world is not dying. It’s not falling apart. It’s changing. I personally believe that pessimism is an indulgence, despair an insult to the imagination. There are wonderfully positive things out there.”

MBG: Why Clearing Space At Home Is So Important (And How It’s Done, According To Feng Shui)

Space clearing is a way to shake up the stagnant energy in a space. And according to feng shui philosophy, when you clear your home, you create freedom and openness in the rest of your life too.

Space clearing is quite literally decluttering the energy in your life, and the practice has gone mainstream in recent years. (By now, Im guessing almost all of us have come across sage sticks, gorgeous crystals, and maybe some chimes and Tibetan bowls.) One thing people don’t realize about space clearing is that it can be practical as well as mystical

How do you Beltane? Is it even a verb? Solitary practitioner, always in groups, a mix of the two? Does it include a viewing of The Wicker Man? All these adventures and more can be yours. ’tis the season!

“It’s always Beltane in our hearts.” That’s one of the first things I heard when I moved to the magical land of Asheville a few years ago. This Beltane festival, what is it, I wondered?

Inner Journey: Are You Afraid To Be Different?

On the path of evolution, we move from being a willing and obedient member of the group to wanting to take control over our own lives. This is a necessary but difficult transition.

Andrew Schneider says, “At this point we are afraid of being ourselves. We are afraid of being unique and different. We are afraid of being individually powerful, and even successful. For all of these things stand against the old ways that told us that conformity was right and individualism was wrong.”

“For as long as we possibly can, we make a compromise. We try to live both lives – the dependent tribal life and the independent personal life – as contradictory and opposite as they are.

“We want approval from others. We want to be accepted and popular. We seek this comfort to overcome our fear and feel more secure. …So, at times when we conform, we don’t feel the fear of living. But we might lose the new sense of adventure, discovery, daring and enthusiasm for life that the questioning and questing have brought us.”

“Nature never repeats herself, and the possibilities of one human soul will never be found in another.”
— Elizabeth Cady Stanton

A Note from the Universe

Expecting “end results” – such as wealth and abundance, health and harmony, friends and laughter – in broad brushstrokes, is part of the secret formula for manifesting the life of your dreams.

Expecting your path to follow a certain route – such as writing a bestseller to accumulate wealth, having a particular someone fall in love with you, or insisting upon this idea, that diet, or the other invention to be your deliverance – is just plain messing with the cursed hows and severely limits my options.

Cool?

Practice

“Never bring the car home without gas in the tank.” -Ron Shelton

Our spiritual practice is as essential to our soul as food is to our body. Practice provides us with the fuel which gets us through those difficult times. It leads us to peace, clarity, wisdom, and so much more. And just like a car, we can run out of “gas” when we’re stressed out from going for a lot of miles without a break. Make it a point to incorporate your spiritual practices into your day every day, and watch the difference in how you feel.

Spirituality & Healing: 3 Ways to Reduce Commitment Overload

There’s one of those expressions going around, the kind printed on signs, keychains and pillows: Let whatever you do today be enough. I want it to be enough, but it feels like there is always three times as much to do as can possibly get done in 24 hours. Feeling chronically overwhelmed is a signal that it’s time to reduce your commitments. Other symptoms may include backing out of plans, being perpetually exhausted, or not having time to devote to self-care. Let’s look at some radical ways to climb out from under the heap of commitments

Where once humans regarded wolves as a fearsome foe, more of us now see them through another lens. Pioneer Thinking: Hawthorn Berry – The Heart Herb

Ancient Greeks used hawthorn berries for heart disease. The Greeks and Romans looked to hawthorn as a source of happiness and hope for the future. The berries were used by the Chinese for digestion and circulatory problems. Christian legend says that the crown of thorns that was placed upon the head of Christ was made from hawthorn. The crushed fruit or leaves were used as a poultice for their drawing powers to remove thorns and splinters for centuries in England. Native Americans believed that hawthorn was useful for rheumatism and heart problems.

“Beliefs separate. Loving thoughts unite.”

Our ego focuses on how we are different from the rest of the world. We connect with soul when we experience how we are the same.

Any time you separate yourself from other people or from situations, you know your personality is in control. At such times, shift your perspective to build connection and you will move into soul.

A man loses his job. A woman discovers her boyfriend was cheating on her. Another person discovered he has cancer at 49. We don’t like change. In fact, just thinking about the possibility of change gives some people the chills. No matter what, change makes us feel miserable and if we could high-tail from it, we would and frequently do. Birds & Blooms: The Backyard Benefits of a Moon Garden

Most of us notice how gorgeous gardens are when the sun is shining, but how often do we see what a garden looks like at night? Between dusk and dawn, when moonlight illuminates the plants, visitors can enjoy unique insight into a garden’s personality.

Night pollinators such as moths, native bees and bats are attracted to plants in a moon garden with white and pale-colored flowers that are intensely fragrant and produce a lot of nectar. As you walk through the moon garden, you will be able to watch these varied and industrious third-shift pollinators as they go about their important work.

Pioneer Thinking: Plants For May

Summer is finally on its way and the garden is beginning to burst with colour. Here are just a few of the plants you might like to choose to make your garden really stand out this month.

Aquilegia or Grannies Bonnet is a very common cottage garden plant that some people even consider a weed. However, there are some really beautiful varieties of this stunning little plant that should have a place in every herbaceous border. Nora Barlow is a very old variety that has tight buds of apple green, a colour which stays on the tip of the petals as they unfurl into a ball of pink and white flowers. This variety is not only pretty but also makes a good cut flower. There is a black version called Black Barlow

Inner Journey: Awareness Through Love and Fear

“There is nothing holier in this life of ours than the first consciousness of love — the first fluttering of its silken wings — the first rising sound and breath of that wind which is so soon to sweep through the soul, to purify or to destroy.”
— Henry Wadsworth Longfellow

Our inner journey takes us through the following stages relative to love and fear:

1.UNCONSCIOUS LOVE: When we are born, we exist as pure love but we are not conscious of our love.
2.UNCONSCIOUS FEAR: Our souls have set the stage for our evolution. As we grow, unconscious fears arise in our personalities that draw experiences to us that wound us.
3.CONSCIOUS FEAR: Our wounds bring pain and suffering that enable us to become conscious of our fears.
4.CONSCIOUS LOVE: When we’ve suffered enough pain, we are motivated to move through our fears to consciously experience the love that supports all.

“Love is but the discovery of ourselves in others, and the delight in the recognition.”

Practice

“Whoever perseveres will be crowned.” -Johann Gottfried von Herder (German author, 1744-1803)

Remember the old joke, “How do you get to Carnegie Hall?” The punchline is “Practice, practice, practice!” Funny, but oh, so true! How do we reach that peace of mind, how do we get to that spiritual place that we’re looking for? The answer is the same: Practice, practice, practice! We’re going to get better at seeing ourselves as who we really are the more we practice actually being it. Whatever practice you choose, practice on a regular basis, practice every day, twice a day or more so.

Inner Journey: The Eyes of the Soul

Today, we want to share a passage from Martia Nelson’s book, ‘Coming Home’:
“My greatest teacher was the experience of living in split realities: personality and true self. Personality is our daily companion, our conscious self that sees the world through the eyes of limitation and dutifully keeps us informed about what we can and cannot do. True self, on the other hand, patiently stands by, offering the unwavering knowledge that a state of vibrant well- being and unlimited possibility is our true nature, a birthright that can be lived if we choose to do so. … True self simply refers to the aspect of our being that is completely aware of its expanded nature no matter what we may be experiencing at the time.”

Whenever we feel constrained, fearful, unworthy, inadequate or anything we deem to be negative, we have identified with our personality. We can always choose to view the same situation from the perspective of our soul.

“As a Witness, you begin to discover that you are not that which you have been observing; you are not those things that you have been noticing about your body. Instead, you are the noticer.”
— Wayne Dyer

Practice

“We must be the change we wish to see in the world.” ~-Mahatma Gandhi

Our spiritual practice has purpose. It helps us to learn and grow and feel our connection with the Divine. And it also helps to lift the spiritual energy of the whole planet! The more people who devote time to spiritual practice, the better off our world will be. So, there are two things we can each do, every day, to help ourselves and each other.

1. Continue regular spiritual practices. This includes prayer, meditation, reading spiritual works, serving others, and giving of our time and talents.
2. Encourage others to spend time pursuing their own spiritual practices. This may mean babysitting some youngsters so their mother can spend some time in silence, or sending enlightening e-mails on to friends!

Perception

“If we could see the miracle of a single flower clearly, our whole life would change.” ~ -Buddha

Our perception tends to be that growth is hard, that it is a struggle, that it is work. But the truth is that we are only making it hard on ourselves. We cling to the past, try to control our futures. Are we willing to get out of our own way and just let it be? It could be so simple! Look at the flower. Learn from the flower. We can bloom just as easily.

Beliefnet: 5 First Ladies and Their Powerful Legacies

First Ladies are rarely as well-known as their presidential husbands. The history books often relegate them to a mere footnote, and many people mention the names of Americas First Ladies only as the answer to a trivia question. A number of people can name most of the presidents of the United States, but the women who were their supporters, advisers and confidants are often forgotten. These women helped their husbands handle the stressful years spent running the nation but are rarely recognized for their contributions, although quite a few First Ladies have put their positions of power to good use.

OMTimes: Escape from Self-Sabotaging Habits

How well are you taking care of yourself? Do you take time for yourself, or are there so many distractions in your life that you are last on the list of your busy schedule?
If we are not taking time for ourselves, it’s difficult for us to be giving love to someone else because we run out of energy. If there is nothing left for us, there sure isn’t going to be anything left for anyone else!

Spirituality & Health: 5 Ways to Sit Less to Save Your Brain

You’ve heard that sitting is the new smoking: bad for our hearts, lungs, and a leading cause of obesity. A new study from UCLA suggests that too much sitting is also bad for our brains, and that sedentary behavior is linked to changes in parts of the brain that are critical for memory. Sorry, what was I saying? I work from a computer all day, and as much as I want to move more, it’s really challenging. But if sitting is going to literally thin my brain, I’m incentivized! Here are five ways to sit less, so you can think ….

Beltane heralds the coming of summer and is a festival of fertility. The seeds are sown, the plants and crops are all growing and the Earth is fertile. This is the festival where we celebrate the fertility not just within the Earth but within the union between the God and the Goddess and between humans too, ’tis the season to celebrate getting naked … Celebrate love, happiness, union and life itself.

Inner Journey: Attachment

“The soul that is attached to anything, however much good there may be in it, will not arrive at the liberty of divine union. For whether it be a strong wire rope or a slender and delicate thread that holds the bird, it matters not, if it really holds it fast; for until the cord be broken, the bird cannot fly.”
— Saint John of the Cross

“Attachment to spiritual things is… just as much an attachment as inordinate love of anything else.”
— Thomas Merton

A Note from the Universe

Nice job helping raise the sun this morning! The colors over Fiji were especially impressive. The warming of the Adriatic was right on time. A few Egyptians up early enough even wondered if Ra wasn’t back at the helm.

The hungry child in Mongolia said to say, “Hi!” The sad monk in Tibet, “Thanks for the laugh!” The realtor in Minnesota asked, “Are you sure about the farmer’s market?” The dancer in Rome, “Don’t tell a soul…” And the sage in Djibouti says, “You have exactly what it takes to have financial security for myself and family!”

Tell me, any recollection of all your other-worldly to-ings and fro-ings, yet? Or are we still pretending you’re just mortal?

If you only knew…

Perception

“Change your thoughts, and in the twinkling of an eye, all your conditions change. Your world is a world of crystallized ideas, crystallized words. Sooner or later, you reap the fruits of your words and thoughts.”

-Florence Scovel Shinn

Our perceptions are all in our mind. So it makes sense that if we change our mind, we change our perceptions. And when we change our perceptions, we change our reality! We can experience more of the Truth of this wonderful world, the beauty, the peace, the prosperity, the abundance, the clarity. Choose to see it. Choose to live it!

Beliefnet: 7 Steps to Reconnect With Yourself

Sometimes due to circumstances, a big life change, the dissolving of a long-term relationship, a health issue, or other reasons we realize we have lost touch with our true self. During these times we often experience feeling frustrated, scared for the future, anxious, unfulfilled and stuck. We feel lost because at some point we became disconnected from who we really are. This often occurs as adults try to fit themselves into societal norms, relationship expectations or are just trying to survive to such a degree that there is not the capacity to focus on anything else. To protect ourselves we may tuck away our true nature and shut the door so we can just get through what we need to get through.
