Mister Roger’s Message of Love

The release of the Mister Rogers documentary Won’t You Be My Neighbor? calls to mind the essential message of Rogers’ long-running children’s program, Mister Rogers’ Neighborhood. Fred McFeely Rogers, who died in 2003, was also an ordained Presbyterian minister. Over the course of three decades on public broadcasting, he brought to millions of children what his faith’s General Assembly referred to as “unconditional love.”

Tetraktys: The Process and Symptoms of Spiritual Awakening – What You Need to Know

We live in a time where people are feeling unsatisfied by their condition, and even more so in the developed world. Thus, a lot of people who have an interest in spirituality tend to have the very specific goal of changing their life for the better. The process is now referred to as “spiritual awakening”, but people don’t always agree on how the process itself works and on what the symptoms of that “spiritual awakening” actually are. This is what this article will be all about.

Elephant Journal: The Note left on Hemingway’s Grave

I am writing this article at a time when death seems to be pervasively in my life.
My mother is dying. She has been for a while, but this time it seems to be real. And a dear lifelong friend has died in his sleep. It adds to the confusion of the giving and taking away of life. I am resigned to the unexplainableness of it all, and am trying to stay focused on life and legacy—the giving, rather than the taking away.

EarthSky News: Moon, Jupiter, Antares from July 20-22

These next several evenings – July 20-22, 2018 – let the moon serve as your guide to the planet Jupiter, which shines more brightly than any star. Simply seek out the waxing gibbous moon as soon as darkness falls, and that nearby bright “star” is actually the king planet Jupiter. After July 20, watch for the moon to move eastward, in the direction of the star Antares.

Recently someone online referred to me as “Wiccan Trash.” It’s not something that should bother me, but two weeks after it happened I’m still thinking about it, so obviously it did. I realize it was just one person, but it was just such a nasty sounding thing to say that its stuck with me.

Inner Journey:

DO YOU BELIEVE IN YOURSELF?

“We cannot rise higher than our thought of ourselves.”
— Orison Swett Marden

What do you believe about yourself?

If you are experiencing a lack of something in your life, chances are that you hold a belief in your subconscious that says you aren’t worthy of having that quality. Write in your journal the answer to these questions for yourself:
•Where are you not good enough, not worthy enough?
•How willing are you to receive?

“We do not believe in ourselves until someone reveals that deep inside us something is valuable, worth listening to, worthy of our trust, sacred to our touch. Once we believe in ourselves we can risk curiosity, wonder, spontaneous delight or any experience that reveals the human spirit.”

A Note from the Universe

Know how to tell whether or not your dreams are coming true?

Well, if the sun came up today, things are looking pretty good.

If the sky is still blue, high above the clouds, I’d say keep doing what you’re doing.

And if, somewhere, there are eagles soaring, tulips blooming, and falls cascading… could it be, Cat, most of them already have?

Enthusiasm

“No one keeps up his enthusiasm automatically. Enthusiasm must be nourished with new actions, new aspirations, new efforts, new vision. Compete with yourself; set your teeth and dive into the job of breaking your own record. It is one’s own fault if his enthusiasm is gone; he has failed to feed it.”

-Papyrus

Knowing that enthusiasm fuels our fire and keeps us going, it is up to us to maintain the enthusiasm necessary to keep ourselves on track. Enthusiasm can be found, and it can be created. So if you can’t find it, make it!

Patheos-Pagan: Harnessing The Power Of Symbolism In Pagan Worship

Symbolism, or “the practice or art of using an object to represent an abstract idea” has always held a raw, primitive power over the human subconscious. Think of Pan’s pipes, which represent pleasure, or his horns and goat legs, representing unbridled sexual inclination.

Inner Journey:

YOU ARE WORTHY!

“A person’s worth is contingent upon who he is, not upon what he does, or how much he has. The worth of a person, or a thing, or an idea, is in being, not in doing, not in having.”
— Alice Mary Hilton

As a human being, as spirit manifested in form, you are innately worthy. Your worthiness does not have to be strengthened or improved. However, you may not PERCEIVE yourself to be worthy.

If you doubt your self-worth, consciously or unconsciously, you will limit the good things you will allow into your life.

Do you consider yourself worthy? It may help to answer these questions:
• Do you find it easier to give than to receive?
• Do you have as much money as you would like?
• Do you feel driven to improve yourself?
• Do you value other people’s time more highly than your own?
• How would you feel if someone offered to pay you a salary of $1 million/year?

If you find you lack self-worth, don’t despair. Just being aware of your self-worth issues will help you let them go.

“Every achiever that I have ever met says, ‘My life turned around when I began to believe in me.'”
— Dr. Robert H. Schuller

“We cannot achieve more in life than what we believe in our heart of hearts we deserve to have.”
— James R. Ball

Thoughts

“As a man thinketh in his heart, so is he.” -Proverbs 23:7

Even way back when the bible was written people were talking about the heart’s intelligence. What do we KNOW in our heart? What conviction do we carry with us? It is important to recognize these thoughts, because they make up how we are, and who we think we are.

Mind Body Green: 5 Quick Ways To Finally Put An End To Impostor Syndrome

Often when I sit down at my desk to prepare for a big interview, write an outline for a speaking engagement, or work on a new article, whispers of self-doubt swirl through my mind.

Before I even begin, the fear can start to get to me. “You know nothing,” a little voice says. “Who are you to deserve this opportunity? No one wants to hear what you have to say.” I know I’m not the only one. How many of you have heard those exact words echo through your mind—maybe after a promotion, an invitation, or being asked to pioneer a new project? Why, hello there, impostor syndrome.

Impostor syndrome was first named by a pair of clinical psychologists in the 1970s,

Spirituality & Health: 5 ways To Declutter Your Social Life

We declutter our drawers, our cars and our closets. How often do we tidy up our social lives? They probably aren’t terribly streamlined, as pruning them sounds so  severe. It’s okay to take stock. Consider the research of esteemed anthropologist Robin Dunbar, who studies the evolutionary structure of social networks in primates. He’s found there’s a ceiling to just how many meaningful relationships at a time we can have, and it’s based on brain size. For humans, it tops out at 150 about the size of a small village. More than that, it’s simply too hard to maintain. Let’s look at the idea of streamlining your friendships.

A Bountiful Moment:

Instead of saying “I can’t”  ask yourself  “what can I do” to create the solution.

Daily Thought: Stop repeating I can’t and starting thinking what am I doing or what can I do to change what is creating the current stress or difficult situation. Every day place your focus on the solution to direct tomorrows living. The solution will allow you to maintain control over your life and your future.

Daily Practice: Pay attention today to the times you tell yourself you cannot do something. Why are you telling yourself that? Note what is happening and why you feel like you have no power over what is occurring. Then take a deep breathe and think of every possible solution to change what you cant do. Do not dismiss anything, every thought counts until you find one that works. Apply the possible and be in control.

Have a Great Day and Believe in Yourself!

I’m sure, after the post I made about Supergirl a couple of years ago, it will come as no surprise to you that I’m a huge fan of Star Wars. With the digital release yesterday of The Last Jedi, I have it on the brain  specifically, the way the newest trilogy is appreciating true balance of light and dark, and the spectrum between.

Competing Narratives

I have struggled for most of my life with western culture’s dominant narrative of light equalling good and dark equalling evil. It’s an aspect of the great cosmic battle that we inherited from the Zoroastrians, and their influence on first Judaism and then Christianity

Inner Journey: Hope and Disappointment

“It’s precisely the disappointing stories, which have no proper ending and therefore no proper meaning, that sound true to life.”
— Max Frisch

“Don’t get your hopes up!”

Were you warned of this as a child? What does this say? It says that life is bound to disappoint you. It says, don’t aim high because you’re not likely to get what you want. It says that we can’t expect good things to happen to us.

As our thinking creates our reality, this kind of thinking dooms us to a mundane existence. It’s time to change our stories. Why not focus the immense power of our hearts and minds on bringing to fruition the very best life has to offer? Allow yourself to hope and believe in all possibilities.

“Hope is the companion of power, and the mother of success; for who so hopes has within him the gift of miracles.”
— Samuel Smiles

“The very least you can do in your life is to figure out what you hope for. And the most you can do is live inside that hope. Not admire it from a distance but live right in it, under its roof.”

Today’s Recipe: Tangerine and Lime Bars

There are two reasons why I’ve made these scrumptious tangerine lime bars. First off, I love tangerine and lime flavours so much, I think they need to be stars of more foods. Secondly, my tangerine and lime trees really outdid my lemon tree this year, so when I went to pick fruit in my garden, this was the best idea for a sweet treat! This a very simplified recipe, so there is no egg separating or tempering necessary. The flavours aren’t as tart as lemon bars, they’re well rounded and velvety. I hope you give these a try. 🙂

Thought For The Day: Jan. 31, 2018 ‘Karma Dogs”

Happy Wednesday,

Our thought for the day is a lesson in karma and choices. Karma can be either good or bad, there is NO in between. If you walk around with your nose in the air thinking that you’re better than everyone else, karma will eventually come and bite you in the butt. Treat others poorly, or inflict mean nastiness on them, karma bites you in the butt. However by treating people the way you want to be treated, courtesy and respect go a long way, then karma is like a big goofy dog who is happy to see you at the end of the day. If someone treats you poorly, think before you react, it’s all about choices and it benefits you to make the best ones. So …………….. what kind of karma will you sow today?
