2019’s only annular eclipse – the third and final solar eclipse of this year – falls on December 26. It’s visible along a narrow path in the world’s Eastern Hemisphere. Like a total solar eclipse, an annular solar eclipse happens when the new moon moves directly in front of the sun. During a total solar eclipse, the new moon completely covers over the solar disk. During an annular eclipse, the lunar disk is too small to totally cover over the sun, so an annulus – or thin ring of the sun’s surface – surrounds the new moon silhouette.

I think we’ve all seen an angel at some point in time. My mailman is an angel when he gets out in the pouring rain to deliver a package rather than leaving a note in my box for me to pick it up at the post office. My son’s teacher is an angel when she stays after school to tutor her students before a big biology test. My cat is an angel when she curls up on my lap just when I need a hug. We need to recognize the angels in our lives, and appreciate how they can change us just by being who they are.

When my kids were little they watched “The Lion King” on video over and over again. They loved the animals, they could relate to them – and they totally “got” the whole Circle of Life message. I think this new generation is more sensitive about the environment, maybe because they grew up with more of an awareness of it. There are recycling bins in every home now, so kids are getting into better habits at a younger age.
