Inner Journey: BE TRUE TO YOURSELF

“In the final analysis, we count for something only because of the essential we embody, and if we do not embody that, life is wasted.”
— C.G. Jung

Where are you not being true to yourself?

All blocks arise when we’re not being authentic, when we’re not being true to ourselves. We know we’re not being authentic when we feel discomfort of any kind.

When our thoughts, feelings and actions align with our essence, we express the qualities of soul. Always trust that your soul knows what’s best for you.

Believe in yourself and act on your ideas. Give yourself permission to do what you want with your life. Take the initiative to set meaningful goals for yourself and achieve them. Begin to tell yourself why you CAN have what you want!

Inner Journey: NO JUDGMENT

Everything in life holds both a blessing and a curse. We deny this when we label the events of our lives as either good or bad. The following old Zen story illustrates this lesson most effectively.

A farmer had a horse but one day, the horse ran away and so the farmer and his son had to plow their fields themselves. Their neighbors said, “Oh, what bad luck that your horse ran away!” But the farmer replied, “Bad luck, good luck, who knows?”

The next week, the horse returned to the farm, bringing a herd of wild horses with him. “What wonderful luck!” cried the neighbors, but the farmer responded, “Good luck, bad luck, who knows?”

Then, the farmer’s son was thrown as he tried to ride one of the wild horses, and he broke his leg. “Ah, such bad luck,” sympathized the neighbors. Once again, the farmer responded, “Bad luck, good luck, who knows?”

A short time later, the ruler of the country recruited all young men to join his army for battle. The son, with his broken leg, was left at home. “What good luck that your son was not forced into battle!” celebrated the neighbors. And the farmer remarked, “Good luck, bad luck, who knows?”

“Do not judge, and you will never be mistaken.”

A Note from the Universe

Hey! I’ve been looking over all my old photos, and yes, you guessed it, you look absolutely smashing. But honestly, if you don’t mind me saying so, you’re never as beautiful in a photograph—mine or anyone else’s—as you are in person. Not even close.

The odd quiver of your lip, the sparkle in your eye, and the hidden question mark, sometimes, when you smile. The confidence behind your laughter, the concern behind your tears, and the unpredictability of your wit. The reassurance of your glance, the easiness of your presence, and the “junk in your trunk.” I wouldn’t change one single thing. But you guessed that, too, huh?

Isn’t it strange, though, how some still expect to see all that when looking at a photo of themselves, or just staring, motionless, into a mirror?

If you could just see what I see

Inner Journey: LIFE COMES WITH PROBLEMS

“For a long time it had seemed to me that life was about to begin — real life. But there was always some obstacle in the way, something to be got through first, some unfinished business, time still to be served, a debt to be paid. Then life would begin. At last it dawned on me that these obstacles were my life.”
— Fr. Alfred D’Souza

Life always brings problems. We really can’t live without them.

And so it helps to shift our perspective. We can stop trying to avoid the problems. We can stop feeling victimized by what’s happening. Instead, we can consciously work with the challenge of the moment to learn more about ourselves and the world. When we make this shift in attitude, we discover ourselves to be strong and powerful.

“Every lesson is a widening and deepening of consciousness. It is a stretching of the mind beyond its conceptual limits and a stretching of the heart beyond its emotional boundaries. It is a bringing of unconscious material into consciousness, a healing of past wounds, and a discovery of new faith and trust.”

Illusion
“And so we plow along, as the fly said to the ox.”

-Henry Wadsworth Longfellow (1807-1882)

This quote makes me smile. It’s a funny illustration of illusion. It’s good to keep a sense of humor about ourselves. Life can be hard, but we can still laugh. Sometimes we think we’re going through something really painful, awkward, or difficult – and we look at each other and say “some day we’ll look back on this and laugh” – and that immediately lightens the situation because we know it’s true! Life is full of experiences. Sometimes we’re the ox and sometimes we’re the fly.

Thought For The Day: Sept. 10, 2020 “Disconnect From Drama”

Happy Thursday,

Not everyone thrives on drama and in fact we are happier when we can avoid it. However the truth is that we cannot always avoid negative people. When dealing with them remember that you have choices. Sometimes the most difficult is learning to walk away or choosing not to answer that text or phone call. Remember that negativity breeds more negativity and by getting caught up in it it becomes our drama. But when we make a conscious decision to disconnect from it the drama loses its power.

Spirit Library: Soul Connection (a message from Kate Spreckley)

Humanity, as a whole, seems to have lost themselves in creating superficially secure, economic environment which has replaced the spiritual one we experienced many hundreds of years ago. The questions of why we are here and what we are here to do have been pushed aside and repressed enabling the establishment of a more comfortable style of survival.

Inner Journey:

DO YOU OWN YOUR LIFE?

“The meaning of life is to give life meaning.”
— Ken Hudgins

When we own our lives, we accept what we’ve inherited and the experiences we hold in our memories. We also claim our right to create new conditions if we’re not happy with what’s come before. We assume responsibility for changing what does not suit us. We acknowledge our own special talents and skills, and truly comprehend our right to enjoy the journey. In short, we embrace the meaning and purpose, the mystery and the beauty of our lives.

Do you feel that you own your life at the moment?

“I think of life itself now as a wonderful play that I’ve written for myself… and so my purpose is to have the utmost fun playing my part.”

Illusion
“Our greatest illusion is to believe that we are what we think ourselves to be.”

-Henry Amiel (1821-1881)

Who do we think we are? We go around acting like human do-ings, with families, jobs, cars, mortgages. But is this our reality, or is it an illusion, a play? There’s an ancient Indian saying that explains that we are actually spiritual beings having a human experience. Let’s think of ourselves from that perspective, and see how things change for us

Daily Tarot: Justice

A past wrong against you might be set right today. It’s important that you give others a fair chance and don’t automatically discount what they have to say or offer. You don’t need to satisfy everyone but you do need to make the effort to let them have their say and their moment to contribute. Be confident and don’t feel threatened by anything.

Thought For The Day: Sept. 9, 2020 “Think For Yourself”

Happy Wednesday,

Our inner peace is important but it’s something that people struggle with. Never let others dictate how you should feel or think. Think for yourself. Choose your battles wisely and let go of what you have no control over. Make your own decisions and let others make theirs and if mistakes are made learn from them and move on. Listen to your inner voice and use the information to your benefit, and above all, be yourself and invite others to do the same. You’ve totally got this!

Daily Good: Ayni: Living Life in the Round

Scarcity appears when wealth cannot flow. Lewis Hyde

Ayni: Living Life in the Round

“Today For You, Tomorrow For Me.” This is the meaning behind ayni, a living Andean philosophy and practice that awakens a balanced and harmonious relationship between nature and man. In Andean cosmology, this is expressed through complementary opposites such as male/female; sun/moon; gold/silver. Their interaction is a form of reciprocity called ayni. One of the guiding principles of the way of life of the Quechua and Aymara people, this equilibrium of exchange and mutuality, which has been practiced since ancient times (since before the Incas), creates a cycle of connectivity and support essential to social and spiritual wellbeing.” More in this thoughtful piece from Parabola. { read more }

Inner Journey: JOURNEY HOME

“Everything seeks its source.”
— a universal principle

Our spiritual journey unfolds through 2 stages.
1.THE PATH OF PERSONALITY – We arise from the one source of all, to be born as individuals in a world of form. In this physical world, we experience separation and limitation. This is a time of immersion in a world of effects, form, ego, distortion, illusionand pain.
2.THE PATH OF SOUL – When we have experienced enough pain, we find our way back home to our spiritual source. We let go of the illusion of separation to embrace unity and wholeness. We work with cause instead of effects.

Paradoxically, it’s only with a strong and healthy personality that we become capable of expressing soul. WHERE ARE YOU ON YOUR PATH? Are you struggling to do more and have more? Are you aware of your soul challenging you to open to the bigger picture oflife?

“Two people have been living in you all your life. One is the ego, garrulous, demanding, hysterical, calculating; the other is the hidden spiritual being, whose still voice of wisdom you have only rarely heard or attendedto – you have uncovered in yourself your own wise guide.”
— Sogyal Rinpoche

Illusion
“If you ever do a survey, you’ll find that people prefer illusion to reality, ten to one. Twenty, even.”

-Judith Guest, 1976

There seems to be a lot of escapism in our society. We like to go to movies and get lost in a story. We like to visit places like Disneyland, called “the happiest place on earth.” As much as we can enjoy these excursions, we can’t live in Fantasyland. But what we must understand is that reality can be just as blissful. We can create our lives so that we experience joy, love, peace, anytime we want to.
