Thought For The Day: Oct. 12, 2017 “Know-It-All’s”

Happy Thursday,

Our thought for the day is more like a mini rant, so I apologise ahead of time. But hey this has been on my mind so here we go……..  Know it all: We all know at least one person who fits this description, I know I do.  These people have done it all, seen it all, and know what best for everyone, they love to use big words to make themselves look important and they love to micromanage others. The easiest way to annoy a know it all is to ignore them. Of course that sends them running to someone else whining about how people don’t listen to them. The truth is that no one  ever knows everything.  Life is an ongoing series of lessons and we learn new things all the time. Part of learning involves listening and there are many positive ways to give advice to others. It’s all in the attitude my friends.

Thought For The Day: Oct. 11, 2017 “Don’t Worry, Be Happy”

Happy Wednesday,

Do you remember the song “Don’t Worry, Be Happy”?  It turns out that it’s pretty good advice. While it’s human nature to worry letting it consume you is not a good thing. it zaps our energy and creates needless stress. The truth is that we spend a lot of time agonizing over things that are out of our control. Sometimes those troubles are the real deal and sometimes they turn out to be nothing and we find we’ve wasted our time and energy.  Don’t waste your energy on “What if?” The key is to work on what you can control and set aside what you can’t that way you can devote yourself to better things!

Thought For The Day: Oct. 10, 2017 ” Go For The Mistakes”

Happy Tuesday,

News flash….. we are not perfect and we all make mistakes. Of course with this latest obnoxious trend of publicly shaming people you might think otherwise. Since we are not born knowing everything, nor do we ever, it stands to reason that we all make mistakes. Making mistakes means that you learn something and it is through this that we continue our personal evolution. Never be afraid to make mistakes, when they happen (and they will) keep trying until you get it right. When you do get it right there is a sense of joy and accomplishment and high fives all around. You totally have this!

Thought For The Day: Oct. 9, 2017 “Man… Because..”

Happy Monday,

To start the new week we have a quote from the Dalai Lama. I absolutely adore this man. He is a truly beautiful soul. We are put here on this earth to live, to enjoy the blessings and pleasures life has to offer. While I must admit that money does help it should never be the total sum of our existence. Real living isn’t about how much money you make or how you spend it. It’s about taking time to enjoy the simple everyday things and people you love. The truth is that we will not be here forever and that by making the most of the present we find the future wide open.

Thought For The Day: Oct. 6, 2017 “A Dangerous Place”

We have made it to Friday,

This has been a pretty sad week with the senseless act of violence in Las Vegas topping the list. Einstein had it right, the world IS a dangerous place to live. It takes events like this to show both the best and worst of human nature. It takes ALL of us to create unity, community and peace. While it sounds cliche, one person can make a difference to a few, but working together can make a difference to many. Be an everyday kind of hero, one who stands up for others and for what they believe in. Be a peace warrior and make peace wherever you can. Stand strong in the face of evil and adversity and you will find others standing beside you.

Thought For The Day: Oct. 5, 2017 Energy Is Contagious”

Happy Thursday and Full Moon Blessings!

Have you ever wondered why some people just set you on edge while others have a gentle, calming effect? It all comes down to energy. We all transmit energy to those around us and we all receive energy as well. So basically we have a choice of WHAT kind of energy we allow into our space and whether or not we will allow it to interact with us. By letting the negative energy of others to make an impact on how we feel we are handing them our power. Remember, misery loves company and no one wants to hang with a negative Nellie! Today’s full moon will amplify both positive and negative energies so choose your interactions wisely!

Thought For The Day: Oct. 4, 2017 “Without My Permission”

Happy Wednesday,

Our thought for the day may look pretty simple and straightforward. The truth is though…. it’s not. We can be and often are hurt by others. I’m not talking about physical, this is about mental hurt. We’re often told that we should “turn the other cheek, when someone says or does something hurtful. We hear “Let it go.” Don’t say anything” “They didn’t really mean that”. However, there always comes a time when we have to stand up for ourselves. When we allow others to cause us pain we are giving them power over us, and when we say/do nothing we have just given them permission to keep doing it. By taking control of your power  people no longer have the ability to push our buttons. That means less emotional stress and an increased ability to concentrate on ourselves and those who help lift us up.

Thought For The Day: Oct. 3, 2017 ” It’s About the Spark”

Happy Tuesday,

Our thought for the day is from one of my favorite people, Robin Williams. Simply put, always be yourself. Let the world see the crazy, beautiful, unique individual that you are. When you embrace your spark you show others that it’s okay to embrace theirs as well. Don’t allow anyone to douse  your spark, and believe me there are those who will try. “Spark- dousers” operate on levels of jealousy which stems from their own fear of being an individual instead of a another “sheeple” following the flock. Do you remember lighting sparklers as  kid? You ran through the yard carrying your little beacon of light and making unique trails and patterns in the dark………… that’s the joy that can be found in embracing your spark!

Thought For The Day: Oct.3, 2017 ” A Proactive Approach”

Happy Monday, welcome to a new week and a new month!

Let’s talk about problems. We all have them and we all have to deal with them one way or the other.  The truth about problems is that quite often we  create our own. We overreact, we wait too long, we don’t wait long enough,  we let others take advantage of us, or we ignore things when they do happen and pretend that they didn’t. If we are proactive about problems quite often we  can nip it before it really gets started. Sometimes it’s necessary to let go (people, things, relationships, etc.)  to put an end to a problem. If that little voice inside says “Let’s take care of this now, BEFORE it bites us in the butt!”, be proactive and handle it. You’ll find that can save yourself a lot of emotional distress, time, and even money. Why is this important? Because it gives you more time to do things that bring you joy instead of aggravation.

Celtic Month of Ivy

“Oh, a dainty plant is the Ivy green,
That creepeth o’er ruins old!
Of right choice food are his meals, I ween,
In his cell so lone and cold.
The wall must be crumbled, the stone decayed,
To pleasure his dainty whim:
And the mouldering dust that years have made
Is a merry meal for him.
Creeping where no life is seen,
A rare old plant is the Ivy green.”

Charles Dickens: The Ivy Green

IVY LORE

The Celtic Month of Ivy / Gort/ Gwinwydden runs from Sept 30- Oct 27

The ancient Celts and in particular the Druids, held ivy in high regard. In Wales ivy was related to the goddess Arianrhod, and was used in her ritual of opening a portal into the Otherworld, also known as the dark side of the moon and the Realm of Faery. This realm is symbolized by the butterfly and gives ivy a mysterious and mystical aspect. (If you look closely, ivy leaves resemble butterfly wings) Persephone is also associated with this month, this begins the time when she departs for the underworld for the dark half of the year. This month is time of settlement and reconciliation as it relates to karma. This month also corresponds to the Hunters Moon (aka Harvest or Blood Moon) which is this month’s full moon. It relates to female hunting animals wolf (Brigid), boar (Garbh Ogh), Lioness (Sekhemet)

Ivy is associated with the Goddess because it grows in a spiral. It is also sacred to the God Dionysus and during the Bacchanal people would run around waving the thyrsus which was actually fir branches that were wrapped with ivy, and the ancient Greeks would give a wreath of ivy to newlyweds as a symbol of fidelity.

PLANT INFORMATION

This “super vine” has great strength because of it’s ability to force it’s way into solid rock and it was powerful enough to kill a full grown oak tree. Ivy is another “Celtic tree” that is not a tree, and depends upon a real tree to give it support. It is a member of the Ginseng family although it is considered an evergreen. It also represents the ever blooming aspect of the human psyche. It develops yellowish flowers in October and then black berries.

Ivy is a POISONOUS plant and while it is said to have been used for medicinal purposes (like curing hangovers and cleansing wounds) I would highly recommend AGAINST it , as all parts of this plant are poisonous.

IVY IN MAGIC

In it’s magical role ivy protects against evil spirits negativity and all forms of disaster, it is used in healing rituals and is a symbol of loyalty and longtime friendships. It can be used in love charms to promote fidelity. As a magical name Ivy denotes strength and to give someone ivy as a gift state’s “attachment” and be mine forever.

IVY PEOPLE

People born in this month have great stamina and talents that can bring them great public honors. Ivy people also tend to radiate success even when they are not so fortunate. They are colorful and unique individuals who can be manipulative and use their power ruthlessly to get what they want. The key for Ivy people is not to abuse this power.
