Inner Journey: THE PATH TO WHOLENESS

We think that God has blessed us if we don’t have too many troubles. In fact, religions have erroneously taught us that pain is punishment for our sins. We often ask, “What have I done wrong?” when things do not go the way we want.

Yet, to become ourselves in the truest and deepest sense, we must face our own duality, which of course includes facing our darkness. As souls we strive for wholeness, not for perfection.

At first, we really don’t know what is going on. We just find life difficult, challenging and often painful. Eventually, after much experience and reflection, we start to find meaning in it all. Eventually, we gladly accept the means whereby we can do the Soul work we have come for.

As we become conscious as Souls, we walk our journey purposefully, embracing the reality of our earthly nature along with the truth of our divine nature.

If, when you lay your head upon your pillow tonight, you could choose to slip into a dream dimension where time would literally expand, so much so that you could live out an entire other lifetime within it as a person “designed” by you from head to toe, even choosing your name and who your parents would be.

Where every single day you’d be pushed on to greatness, every single challenge would invite you to become more, and all of your dreams could come true.

Where, no matter how things may ever seem, you’d be bathed in love, surrounded by friends, safe and sound in your very own bed.

And where, upon waking, all that you loved and learned in that lifetime would remain with you forever, and all that scared and threatened you would only have prepared you for happily-ever-after.

Would you choose to go there? On the condition that it felt like your “real life”?

Of course you would. I know you.

Which begs the questions, “How do you know, then, this isn’t that dream? And, who, exactly, is now dreaming they’re you?”

But it is so important to be kind and gracious both outside our homes and inside our homes.

It’s so bright that every year in northern autumn, we get questions from people in the Northern Hemisphere who see a bright star twinkling with red and green flashes. I am a huge movie fan! I go to see lots of different types of movies, not just the big blockbusters. It is really an incredible art form, to tell a story with words and pictures, to evoke emotion, to entertain. There is a movie that is now on DVD called “What the Bleep Do We Know?” This is definitely not your standard action-adventure flick, though it is filled with lots of action and adventure. It’s about Life! It’s about Consciousness. What got me is that so many of the concepts in the film are really big concepts, and somehow the filmmakers managed to present them in such a way that the audience is just riveted. It’s part documentary, part story, part animation, and totally worthwhile. It’s clear that the filmmakers felt that this was an important movie to make, and that’s why they did it. Not to sell tickets, or get this huge box-office, but to express what they felt were important things for people to talk about. This is a great way to live our lives, to be in our “dharma” – do what you need to do, what you feel is important to do, not for the applause, or the critics, or the money, and see what happens.

Some movies are so big, so fabulous, so rich with story and action and setting and wardrobe. “Gone With the Wind” is like that. Wow. It’s absolutely breathtaking, and a true classic. And some movies are smaller, just a more personal story, that doesn’t need much more than the people involved to get the point across. “Rain Man” is that kind of a movie. In the film, Tom Cruise’s character discovers that he has an autistic brother, played by Dustin Hoffman. The journey, how these two get to know each other, and get to understand themselves, and what is important in life, is just beautiful. It strikes a chord because we all have relationships in our lives from which we can learn about ourselves and our connection to the world.
