The animals we are most familiar with are our pets. At some point in our lives, I’m sure we’ve all had at least one pet. I certainly have had quite a few, and I learned something from each and every one of them. Suki is the cat who lives with us right now. I can’t really call her “mine” because she is very much her own cat! There is an unconditional love that happens between pets and companions; it’s very comforting. If only we could all be such agreeable friends.

Evolution in this case means growth, and especially spiritual growth. It is in the awakened state that we are productive. And in the spiritually awakened state the infinite possibilities of the universe are as much a reality to us as the start of a new day.

We’re all connected. For society to evolve, its individuals must evolve. In order for individuals to evolve, we must be supported by society. Our growth goes hand in hand. When you look at how certain trends arise, you can find some examples of just how this works. Yoga has been around for centuries, but it is just recently here in the west that it has become something of a phenomenon! It seems like there are yoga studios popping up everywhere. And how cool is that? Maybe as more individuals become vegetarians, we will have more vegetarian restaurants to choose from. The relationship between the individual and society can create remarkable evolution!

The Wild Hunt: Faery Lore of the Elder Tree

I first discovered the faery lore of the British Isles by accident. I had been reading the Arthurian legends, as well as their origins in Irish and Welsh myths like the stories of the Tuatha de Danaan and the Mabinogion, and this led me to the fairies. I first read Katherine Briggs’s “A Dictionary of Fairies” and followed that with Evans Wentz’s “The Fairy Faith” and Robert Graves’s “White Goddess.”
