Thought For The Day: July 6, 2020 “Don’t Worry”

Happy Monday,

We all worry, it’s just human nature. On Friday we talked about time and how we often waste it on things we shouldn’t. Worry is one of those things. It’s a good thing to acknowledge the fears and concerns that cause us to worry. But it’s not a good thing to get stuck in them. I like to equate worry to a whirlpool because it’s easy to get sucked in and quite often hard to get out of.  Remember that the things we worry about often work themselves out if we simply set them aside. Have faith in yourself and in your abilities to make things work out.

OPEN TO THE NEW

“All the people we call ‘geniuses’ are men and women who somehow escaped having to put that curious, wondering child in themselves to sleep.”
— Barbara Sher

How willing are you to learn something new?
How open are you to new perspectives?

Only when we’re open can we really hear what’s being said or really see what’s happening or really experience the moment.

Openness demands that we be willing to move to places we’ve never been before. It asks us to continually challenge the foundations of our belief systems so we can test out new ideas. And to do that, we need to accept insecurity.

“I wanted no one lifting a finger in that garden unless he loved doing it. What if Fred had hired a man to dig those trenches and it had turned out that he didn’t love to dig? Who could eat that kind of asparagus?”

-Ruth Stout, 1955

We are so intricately connected and with each other that we can feel a person’s emotions. It’s the same way with the earth – we are just as connected with this planet, so why wouldn’t ‘it’ be able to feel our emotions as well? In the movie ‘Like Water for Chocolate’ there is a scene where a girl is broken-hearted. As she cooks, her tears fall into the stew, and when the family eats the stew, they start to cry. When we’re sick with a cold, the famous remedy is chicken soup – but what is the ‘magic’ ingredient that makes the soup so healing? The love that the cook puts in there! These are illustrations of how our emotions, or how our intent, can affect our environment, and the people in our lives. In a way, we are gardening all the time.

Rather than looking on the glum side of things, take a walk in the sunshine or at least get some fresh air and make an effort to be more objective. Thought For The Day: July 3, 2020 ” Use It Wisely”

Happy Friday,

Time is something that most people never seem to have enough of, so our quote for today reminds us that we are in charge of HOW we spend and USE our time. Every day we spend time on things that we may not need to and we also use time as an excuse to NOT do things that we should be doing. Time is a precious thing and once it’s lost you can’t get it back. Use the time you have wisely!

“I am the youngest of eight siblings. Five of us have died. Sometimes it all feels a bit too much to bear. Once a person of periodic deep depressions, a sign of mental suffering in my family that affected each sibling differently, I have matured into someone I never dreamed I would become: an unbridled optimist who sees the glass as always full of something. It may be half full of water, precious in itself, but in the other half there’s a rainbow that could exist only in the vacant space.” More from Alice Walker in this short and powerful passage. { read more }

“When I used to pick the berries for dinner on the East Quarter hills I did not eat one till I had done, for going a-berrying implies more than eating the berries. They at home got only the pudding: I got the forenoon out of doors and the appetite for the pudding.”

-Henry David Thoreau (1817-1862)
Here’s an example of how the journey can be more important than the destination! Thoreau is known as a naturalist. He had a great affinity for nature, and loved to write about it. Sure, the pudding must have been a nice treat, but I can see where Thoreau felt that the adventures that led up to the pudding made it all the more delicious!

TRUST YOURSELF

“I never know what the next lesson is going to be, because we’re not supposed to know; we’re supposed to trust ourselves to discover it.”
— Melody Beattie

How deeply do you trust your own guidance?

Always trust that you know what’s best for you. To move forward in your life, gather information from the ‘experts,’ consider how their advice relates to your situation and then act only on what feels right for you. What does your whole being (mind, body and soul) say ‘Yes!’ to?

You are the only expert for your own life.

“I trust so much in the power of the heart and the soul; I know that the answer to what we need to do next is in our own hearts. All we have to do is listen, then take that one step further and trust what we hear. We will be taught what we need to learn.”
— Melody Beattie

“Ultimately, we must learn to trust ourselves. When we do this intimately and intelligently, the world opens full of meaning before us. We find that we ourselves are the doorway to a fathomless understanding of the source of life itself. We need only to learn to walk through it.”

Gardening
“All gardeners live in beautiful places because they make them so.”

-Joseph Joubert (1754-1824)

This I’m looking at “gardening” in the bigger sense of the word. There’s a reason why we understand the philosophy: ‘You reap what you sow’ – in gardening nothing is more true! When we plant radishes, we can’t expect gardenias to spring up. This life is our garden, and we can tend to it, and make it a beautiful place to be.

Patheos-Pagan: Sun Magic: Sunrise and Sunset Spells

Sun phases for magic
And just like the moon the sun has phases which can be used to tie in with your magical workings to add an extra boost of power. The sun measures time, where it sits in the sky denotes what time of the day it is, and a sun dial would be quite useless without the sun to cast a shadow! I also think that point between night and day and vice versa, that moment of hand over is quite specia

Inner Journey:

CHOOSE DIFFERENTLY TODAY

“It is always your next move.”
— Napoleon Hill

The great benefit of heightened awareness is that we have more choice in how we live our lives. At any moment, we can purposefully choose a new experience for ourselves. We can choose to pay attention, breathe more deeply, laugh, rest, play, appreciate, do something different – the possibilities are endless.

Whenever you remember, TAKE YOURSELF OFF AUTO-PILOT and really examine your situation. Take charge and make a choice that will enrich your experience. At the end of the day, reflect on what happened and how you felt when you chose a new line of thought, feeling or action.

“We cannot tell what may happen to us in the strange medley of life. But we can decide what happens in us — how we can take it, what we do with it — and that is what really counts in the end.”
— Joseph Fort Newton

“When a defining moment comes along, you can do one of two things. Define the moment, or let the moment define you.”
— Tin Cup (the movie)

And remember: “If you choose not to decide, you still have made a choice.”
— Neil Peart

A Note from the Universe
Best friends may tell you what to do. Yep, because that’s what best friends do.

Wise friends, however, wouldn’t dream of it because they understand that they’ll never know of all the secrets that stir in your heart, of your gifts that lie in waiting, or of the plans that we have made.

Gardening
“My garden is an honest place. Every tree and every vine are incapable of concealment, and tell after two or three months exactly what sort of treatment they have had. The sower may mistake and sow his peas crookedly: the peas make no mistake but come and show his line.”

-Ralph Waldo Emerson (1803-1882)

How does your garden grow? Remember that line from a nursery rhyme? Now we can see how it applies to the ‘big picture.’ What choices are we making? What colors are we choosing for our palette? Do we have some vegetables in the mix? Some fragrant flowers? Are we showing our garden enough tender-loving-care? We will harvest our rewards, and they can be as bountiful as we want them to be!

Thought For The Day: June 29, 2020 “Good or Bad”

Happy Monday,

We’ll start the week with a reminder about how we choose to see things and what we focus on. By letting ourselves focus on the bad things we will find them everywhere and the same can be said for the good things. Even though the world seems pretty bleak right now there are good things going on too. Try looking for the ONE GOOD THING even if it’s something small and simple, its a starting point. Reach for it!
