Mind Body Green: How To Take Your Meditation Outdoors

It wasn’t until late in my life that I realized the power and influence of meditative movement on cultivating a healthy mindset. Perhaps it was just ignorance, or maybe I just was not ready. The prevailing philosophy, which works for many, is to sit down and meditate. As a self-classified Type A personality, calming my mind and focus has never come very easily, so adjusting to the silence and physical inactivity required for meditation proved ineffective.

A Bountiful Moment

I would rather attempt to do something great and fail than attempt to do nothing and succeed.  ~Robert H. Schuller

Daily Thought: Getting caught in the mediocrity of life is easy. There is no effort or reward to just waking and living and allowing the day to drive your actions and reactions. Personal well-being occurs when you have set goals and become determined to achieve what you believe to be your right course. Maintain your actions by remembering that your goals are important to achieve. That by you getting better everyone and everything around you will grow too.

Daily Practice: Recommit to the goals you have set and begun to achieve. Do not allow a moment of pause or distraction from others to derail what it is you have thought about, planned for, and begun to act on. Stay focused. Re-evaluate, re-establish, and re-commit. What do you need to do next to maintain the forward momentum that you have already started?

Inner Journey: Questions That Aren’t Helpful

“We accept many notions because they seem to be the logical answers to our questions. But have we asked the right questions?”
— Harold L. Klawans

Sometimes we ask questions for which we really don’t want the answer! Nonetheless, when we ask a question, our subconscious minds will get to work to answer us.

Here are some examples of questions we want to avoid:
•What’s wrong with me?
•How long could this take?
•What could go wrong?
•How much trouble could it be?
•How hard could it be?

Asking questions can be empowering – as long as they’re smart questions!

“The uncreative mind can spot wrong answers, but it takes a very creative mind to spot wrong questions.”

Mind Body Green: 5 Quick Ways To Finally Put An End To Impostor Syndrome

Often when I sit down at my desk to prepare for a big interview, write an outline for a speaking engagement, or work on a new article, whispers of self-doubt swirl through my mind.

Before I even begin, the fear can start to get to me. “You know nothing,” a little voice says. “Who are you to deserve this opportunity? No one wants to hear what you have to say.” I know I’m not the only one. How many of you have heard those exact words echo through your mind—maybe after a promotion, an invitation, or being asked to pioneer a new project? Why, hello there, impostor syndrome.

Impostor syndrome was first named by a pair of clinical psychologists in the 1970s,

Spirituality & Health: 5 ways To Declutter Your Social Life

We declutter our drawers, our cars and our closets. How often do we tidy up our social lives? They probably aren’t terribly streamlined, as pruning them sounds so  severe. It’s okay to take stock. Consider the research of esteemed anthropologist Robin Dunbar, who studies the evolutionary structure of social networks in primates. He’s found there’s a ceiling to just how many meaningful relationships at a time we can have, and it’s based on brain size. For humans, it tops out at 150 about the size of a small village. More than that, it’s simply too hard to maintain. Let’s look at the idea of streamlining your friendships.

A Bountiful Moment:

Instead of saying “I can’t”  ask yourself  “what can I do” to create the solution.

Daily Thought: Stop repeating I can’t and starting thinking what am I doing or what can I do to change what is creating the current stress or difficult situation. Every day place your focus on the solution to direct tomorrows living. The solution will allow you to maintain control over your life and your future.

Daily Practice: Pay attention today to the times you tell yourself you cannot do something. Why are you telling yourself that? Note what is happening and why you feel like you have no power over what is occurring. Then take a deep breathe and think of every possible solution to change what you cant do. Do not dismiss anything, every thought counts until you find one that works. Apply the possible and be in control.

Inner Journey: Hope and Disappointment

“It’s precisely the disappointing stories, which have no proper ending and therefore no proper meaning, that sound true to life.”
— Max Frisch

“Don’t get your hopes up!”

Were you warned of this as a child? What does this say? It says that life is bound to disappoint you. It says, don’t aim high because you’re not likely to get what you want. It says that we can’t expect good things to happen to us.

As our thinking creates our reality, this kind of thinking dooms us to a mundane existence. It’s time to change our stories. Why not focus the immense power of our hearts and minds on bringing to fruition the very best life has to offer? Allow yourself to hope and believe in all possibilities.

“Hope is the companion of power, and the mother of success; for who so hopes has within him the gift of miracles.”
— Samuel Smiles

“The very least you can do in your life is to figure out what you hope for. And the most you can do is live inside that hope. Not admire it from a distance but live right in it, under its roof.”

Today’s Recipe: Tangerine and Lime Bars

There are two reasons why I’ve made these scrumptious tangerine lime bars. First off, I love tangerine and lime flavours so much, I think they need to be stars of more foods. Secondly, my tangerine and lime trees really outdid my lemon tree this year, so when I went to pick fruit in my garden, this was the best idea for a sweet treat! This a very simplified recipe, so there is no egg separating or tempering necessary. The flavours aren’t as tart as lemon bars, they’re well rounded and velvety. I hope you give these a try. 🙂

A Bountiful Moment

The load of tomorrow, added to the load of yesterday, carried today can make any person falter….Live for today!

Daily Thought:  If you think about what happened yesterday, or what is supposed to happen tomorrow you will lose time and the moments you should be living today. This emotional distraction will get you stuck in a negative self-banter. Focus on the now. Live in the moment and attend to the needs of the most current you.

Daily Practice: Work on staying in the present moment. Be conscious of your thoughts. If they are distractions from the now change them immediately by focusing on the things around you to ground you in the present moment. This will allow you to work on what needs to be done today vs. what wasn’t done yesterday or what needs to be done tomorrow. Enjoy your current day

Inner Journey: Value Just Being

“To do great work a man must be very idle as well as very industrious.”
— Samuel Butler

Many of us have been taught to believe that we are valued for what we do, not just for who we are. ‘Doing’ is important, but to keep life in balance, we also need time to just ‘be.’

Henry David Thoreau expressed this so well in Walden Pond:

“There were times when I could not afford to sacrifice the bloom of the present moment to any work, whether of the head or hand.

“Sometimes, on a summer morning, I sat in my sunny doorway from sunrise till noon, rapt in a revery, amidst the pines and hickories and sumacs, in undisturbed solitude and stillness, while the birds sang around or flitted noiseless through the house, until by the sun falling in at my west window, or the noise of some traveller’s wagon on the distant highway, I was reminded of the lapse of time.

“I grew in those seasons like corn in the night, and they were far better than any work of the hands would have been.”

“Our desires always increase with our possessions; the knowledge that something remains yet unenjoyed, impairs our enjoyment of the good before us.”

-Samuel Johnson

As we continue on the spiritual path, we notice that our desires change. While we recognize that desire for material things is our human nature, the novelty of those things subsides. We yearn to experience our connection with God more fully. Our desire for spiritual growth moves us along the path.

MNN: Why planting a garden is better for bird-watching than filling a feeder

One of the most popular pastimes in the United States is bird-watching. The way millions of Americans participate is by placing a feeder in the backyard and waiting for the various species to arrive. While this has a few upsides — including being easy and creating a stationary place to watch the activity — backyard bird feeders also have downsides, including attracting unwanted critters from raccoons to coyotes to bears, to providing a small range of food to a small group of birds, with much of it getting wasted when it’s left scattered on the ground.  Read more………………

BELIEVE IN YOUR OWN SUCCESS

“What you believe yourself to be, you are.”
— Claude M. Bristol

Do you believe, deep down inside of you, that you can succeed in what you want to do?

Beliefs are strong, and they have the power to attract what is believed to us. If we doubt our ability to succeed, if we in fact believe we WON’T succeed, then sure enough, thats what will happen.

What do you believe about yourself? You have the power to change your beliefs, and that will change your outcome. Set goals you believe you can accomplish. Your beliefs will shape your actions. As you achieve these goals, you’ll begin to believe you are capable of succeeding and of doing even more.

“It is better to believe than to disbelieve; in so doing you bring everything to the realm of possibility.”

Dream big today. Dont let the thoughts of if only get in the way of what you think you are capable of achieving. Set your sights on the big picture to keep you moving in the direction that creates memories showing you the reality of how great you are.

Have a Great Day and Believe in Yourself!

Patheos-Pagan: How I Found Paganism; From a Kitchen Witch

The question posed was how did you find paganism?
Well I guess to be honest it found meand it was witchcraft in particular.

Being born on Samhain,  yep honestly my date of birth is 31st October, I grew up with a little bit of a witchy vibe.

Family and friends would actually buy me little witch things for my birthday as a bit of a Halloween joke. Although as I grew up Halloween in the UK wasn’t what it is now, there was no trick or treating or even decorating and pumpkins where I lived

Inner Journey

REMOVE THE FILTERS

“You got to look at things with the eye in your heart, not with the eye in your head.”
— Lame Deer, Medicine Man of the Oglala people

Whenever we’re thinking, our experience is being filtered through our minds. For example, when I say to myself, “What a beautiful sunset!” I am not fully experiencing the sunset because I am involved with the words in my mind.

Explore letting go of the thoughts, the words, and connecting directly with your experiences. Tune in to the silence and the sensations in your body. Be aware of the spaciousness this brings because this is truly living in the present moment.

Being present doesn’t mean that we have to abandon thinking entirely. That’s not feasible, of course. But we can experiment with what it’s like to stop thinking once in a while!

“Only in quiet waters things mirror themselves undistorted. Only in a quiet mind is adequate perception of the world.”
— Hans Margolius

A Note from the Universe

Tell me what advice would you give a child who came to you asking what their favorite color should be?

To follow their heart? That no color is right or wrong? That if they wanted to, they could always change their mind later, any number of times? That their happiness with their choice is all that matters? Not to give it too much importance? That they don’t have to decide at all? That you approve no matter what they choose?

Now, what if they protested because they had heard from friends that there was a special color assigned to them at birth; their soul-color. They felt that a numerology reading might shed some light on their confusion. They wanted confirmation of their choices through a zodiac chart, tea leaves, and a Ouija board. And they asked if hiring a coach, therapist, or guru would be a good idea.

Yep, this is what I hear every day, just not so much for colors…

Sorry to lay this on you. I’m just fishing around for some new answers to the bazillion questions I get each week about careers, loves, and destinies – which to me, from here, are kind of like… crayons.

Ewhhhh, nice magenta!

Intelligence

“I not only use all the brains I have, but all I can borrow.” -Woodrow Wilson

We don’t need to know everything. Isn’t that great? What a burden it would be to carry around all that information constantly. And yet everything we could ever need, or want, to know is available to us at any time. All we have to do is ask! We are here to help each other, we are our own greatest resource.

Burning Autumn Leaves
By Dennis Siluk Dr.h.c.

Burning Autumn Leaves

[1950s in St. Paul, Minnesota]

My long steel pointed rake punctured

And twisted through tons of autumn leaves

(back in the ’50s);

And there’s a hill yet, I didn’t rake, I see

Behind it, two embankments

Leaves I didn’t rake a day ago;

The essence of fall sleeps on the ground.

I love the scent of burning leaves:

I seem to dream of them nowadays.

I cannot shake the excitement I get

From the sight and smells of burning leaves.

Now the city will not allow the burning,

Not sure what can take its place–:

Only wishful thinking and dreaming, I think.

But every leaf that now appears, in autumn

I keep hearing the cracking of the fire; see

The flickering-flames of burning leaves; I

Can even smell—the autumn leaves of long ago.

I have had too much of raking leaves, I do believe–.

I’m now old and tired, too tired to rake those hills;

Yet raking I still desire, not sure why.

There were a thousand days I raked, back then

Held in hand, the rake that struck the earth–

Spiked, into its dirt–capturing those critters (leaves)

Like thieves–: thieves sleeping.

This tiredness of mine will never go away, I fear

It’s called aging, or something, so I will have to find

Another place, to smell the burning autumn leaves;

And perhaps, perchance, do just a ting of raking:

Before the long, long, very long sleep.
